Sorry, but Gomez is crap. If you would really taken over Martinez at this point, I really don't know what to say. People are saying how good Gomez has been, but come on, he's OPS'ing in the 600's and has a sub .300 OBP, and his minor league stats don't seem to show me that all of a sudden he'll get those respectable. 42:5 K to BB ratio as well. His upside is basically Chris Young without power.
Melville has gotten alot better as his season has went on. He did struggle badly at first but he's got a respectable line of 3.00 ERA, & 72 K's in 46.2 IP. and is still throwing low to mid 90's. ERA is still inflated from earlier in the year but he has improved, still first round material at this point for sure.
I was more concerned with everyone talking about control problems and then seeing those stats. Those walks don't seem too bad at all IMO. Good league or bad league, he's still throwing strikes it seems and that, for whatever reason, seemed to be a red flag in people's minds.
Current stats: In 51 IP> 0.69 ERA, 15 BB's, 83 K's Video from AFLAC game: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/events/draft_report/y2008/index.jsp?mc=cole
In BA's new mock (even though they don't actually have us picking him): Here's what they say about Cole: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/mock-draft/2008/266117.html BTW, Melville was still on the board when we picked in this mock. Brewerfan.net profile: Milb report: His stock has dropped a tad due to Boras, a little bit of a control problem (not terrible by any means), and inconsistent secondary pitches, even though they show potential. Definately would be an interesting pick with a potential high reward.
I'd sure as hell rather have Jim Edmonds platooning with Reed Johnson than Reed Johnson platooning with nobody...since it seems Pie has fallen out of favor for whatever reason.
I'm lost for words. On one hand, he's hated, so the hell with him. On the other hand, he wants to stick it to the Cards and probably hates them, so that's nice. On my third hand, he sucks, so he's got that working against him. Bleh.
Dusty was quoted saying that Bruce will be called up soon (didn't say when). In Yahoo, he's listed as "NA", so you don't even have to waste a waiver on him if you need some offensive punch.
http://www3.signonsandiego.com/news/2008/may/10/reliever-ready-start-anew/ Maybe i'm just making things up, but I thought I remembered the Pads being interested in some relievers of ours this offseason, no?
Can some one with insider help me out? This is the written version of what Gammons said about a run producing CF from MLBTR: If that's really the case, maybe they would consider Fuku in center. But I have no idea about the article, so can someone say if it sounds legit or if Gammons is just rambling on with his own ideas? http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3382237&type=blogEntry&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fespn%2fprint%3fid%3d3382237%26type%3dblogEntry
I'd do the first deal without hesitation. However, I really don't think Hendry will move Fuku to center since one of Fuku's main reasons for picking Chicago was to play right.
Not that we'd do it, but the Cincinatti Enquirer had an article today saying that Griffey is going to be traded after he hits his 600th HR (at least I think it's 600th), and that Dunn would likely be traded as well.
Aaron Shinsano said (in 1908's original post) Lee is "right around 4 seconds" from home to first. The average big league lefty is 4.2 seconds from home to first. So nothing too out of the ordinary? The article made him sound Jose Reyes fast..
