  1. I'm planning to make my first trip to Arizona for Spring Training and would like to hook up with some ST veterans who know the ropes. If anyone out there is OK with me joining them, let me know via the board and we can exchange e-mails. A little about me: - I'm 29, married 5 years with no kids yet. - I live in Lexington, KY and am a die hard UK fan; this might be a problem for UofL fans. - Been to Wrigley several times, most recently in 2004 for a White Sox game (rain-shortened, Maddux win #296 or #297). If this doesn't interest anyone, would someone be so kind as to post some good ST tips (best time to arrive, places where players hang out, where to stay, etc.) Many thanks.
  2. haven't seen this mentioned, but what about moving nomar to 2B and letting cedeno take over at SS? cedeno is better defensively and has more range. moving nomar to 2B might take some pressure off the groin area which i've got to think is going to be a lingering ailment to some extent over the next few years. just a thought...
  3. Anyone know where I can listen to his comments? Surely there's a site with an audio clip up by now.
  4. ESPN reports Texas wanted both Pie and Hill. Thank you JH for saying "eff off"!
  5. over-under on games griffey plays with cubs before getting hurt: 15. give me the under.
  6. anyone else think d-lee has been watching a lot of really good pitches go by lately? might be time for a day off...
  7. can hairston hit it anywhere other than 3rd?
  8. I dunno, he's got potential. His curveball is devastating, but everything else is kinda average. However, with Wood being as unreliable as he is and Maddux getting old, I don't see how trading Rich Hill is even an option. i'm sick of listening to the "average" argument. he's 25 with 2 starts under his belt. he's gone 11 innings and given up 4 runs. his fastball peaks in the low 90s (92 yesterday) and his curve is well above average. you guys are acting like he's in his 3rd year and what you see now is what you're going to get for the next 7/8 years. the last time i checked, we weren't loaded with talented LHPs in the minors. my guess is some of you were saying the same thing about dontrelle when he was a throw-in a few years back. probably raved about ol' six fingers and clement and wrote willis off. cubbie75 is right...without wood in the rotation, who takes hill's place if he's dealt??
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2120933 Says he wants to stay with the Red Sox. The guess here is that unless someone comes through with a lot of talent for the Sox, he stays put. Cubs will chase Huff, Soriano and the Reds outfield. I can't imagine O'Brien dealing any of his guys within the division for fear of them unloading whupass on the Reds for 17-19 games per season over the next 3/4 years. I say Cubs get Soriano, Huff or no one.
  10. i need to hear who we put in the rotation if we deal hill for ramirez/soriano. i, for one, don't want to see him dealt. he's a good lefty with the ability to get bettter. and he's 25. unless we're going to get a long-term position player, similar to what a-ram has turned into. if it's to get a guy like kearns who's not yet shown the ability to be consistently good; or dunn who despite his power has a few huge holes in his game (Ks, avg, defense), then forget it. soriano is tantalizing but at $10 million next year, we better be prepared to keep him for at least 3/4 seasons to make it worth the risk of seeing hill become yet another talented pitcher (garland, wills, lohse for a while) pitching for a team other than the cubs. unless something big can be done to significantly improve the team, i say put murton in LF and let's see what adding wood, remlinger and nomar does for us. i do wish dusty would use a consistent lineup for the remaining games. i'm sick of seeing burnitz bat 6th one day, 4th the next, 5th the next. murton batting 8th one day, 6th the next, etc.
  11. just like the cards did to us...walk, SB, base hit, tie game.
  12. what, we're not going to throw any belt-high fastballs to glaus? i'm stunned!
  13. yeah, but it hasnt always been that way. based on that logic, every bottom of the 9th win is a walk off win and that's stupid.
  14. i need to hear some other opinions on this. i've always considered a walk off win to be when the losing team is literally walking off the field while the winning run scores. for instance, a home run where the losing team starts off the field while the winning run is trotting the bases. or a deep sac fly against a drawn in outfield where the losing team knows instantly the game is over. or even a single to the outfield when the winning run is at 3rd. the common thread is that there is no play at home on the winning run and one team knows they've lost before the run scores. i bring this up because every last at-bat win is being called a "walk off win" these days. when cedeno scored the winner against the giants the other day on an extremely close play at home, it was called a walk off win. when macias scored the game winner yesterday and there was a play at the plate (albeit not a particularly close one) it was called a walk off win. i just don't get it. how can we start a movement to stop the media from stupidly calling these types of endings "walk offs"?
  15. of course after i post this, hill only gives up 1 hit (a home run) and no walks.
  16. walking a guy hitting .217...nice. also, koyie is the gayest spelling of that name!
  17. murton can add to his fan base big time!!
  18. I'd have to see the replay again, but the scorer ruled it a throwing error all the way, meaning a good throw still would have had him. no way a good throw gets him. lee was about to touch the bag when the throw was getting near.
  19. reposting to get an answer... shouldnt clayton get 2 errors on the play - one for the fielding error and another on the throw, allowing lee to get to second?
  20. shouldnt clayton get 2 errors on the play - one for the fielding error and another on the throw, allowing lee to get to second?
  21. u just knew glaus wasn't going to keep missing high low-90s fastballs.
