  1. When he's in the stretch and throwing a fastball, he's using a slide step. When he's throwing a curve, his leg kicks up higher. Check it out next time a runner is on. Hopefully Rothschild is saying something to him during this half inning.
  2. can someone provide a list of notable MLB FAs for next year.
  3. Forgive me for posting this if it's already been posted. How could the Mets get two players that would really help the Cubs - Ramirez and Baez - and only be giving up Cameron and prospects? Why can't the Cubs take the Mets place and give up Patterson and prospects (two from this list: Mitre, Wellemeyer, Pinto, Nolasco, Brownlie, Koronka, Sing). Thoughts?
  4. here is a fact...Z isn't going anywhere. if we had to give up hairston to get manny, who plays CF? why not give pie a shot? maybe walker bats leadoff instead, but pie's D would be valuable and if he's the CF of the future, might as well start him now when he's not being counted on to produce a lot of runs. his speed would be a welcome addition. hell, maybe burny goes to CF and murton to RF. that kid is going to be good.
  5. sure they are. chan ho park, a-rod's deal, etc, etc
  6. Boston gives the Cubs Manny and cash; the Cubs give the Rangers Hairston, Mitre and CPatt and give the Red Sox a PTBNL; and the Rangers give the Red Sox Soriano. The Cubs can call up Pie to replace Hairston. He's got speed and supposedly a very good glove/range in CF. Any lack of production would be offset by the major upgrade in offense in LF. Lineup 1. Pie (give him a shot and see what happens) 2. Walker 3. Lee 4. Manny 5. Aramis 6. Burnitz 7. Nomar 8. Barrett My god our 3-7 would be lethal. Nomar and Walker could switch of course depending on what Nomar shows. Bench Neifi Macias Hollandsworth Hank White Gerut My feeling on Hollandsworth/Gerut...if you have to include one in the deal so the Red Sox get a LF, do so. They're similar players. Murton and Cedeno should go to AAA so they get can get more ABs for next season.
  7. Nope. He cleared waivers. yeah, we get a bag of baseballs and a box of sunflower seeds. about what his performance was worth this season. now, having attempted to be funny, i like joebo and think he's a great guy to have in the clubhouse. but not a single one of us can honestly say their sphincter didn't tighten when you saw him warming up in the pen. and yes, signing with the d-rays as a veteran is a sign that no one else wanted you. the rays are just putting 9 guys on the field each night and they needed someone, anyone, to take the ball in certain situations.
  8. wood should be shut down and undergo surgery immediately. this will increase his chances of being in tip-top shape next year. we've come this far without a major contribution from him so let's give hill the ball and see what happens.
  9. i have 3 ideas on who should get wood's starts - RICH HILL, RICH HILL or RICH HILL. glendon rusch can't get anyone out these days. it looks like his deal with the devil finally expired. call up hill and give the kid a shot!
  10. remember the last time we gave the marlins a low-level prospect? give them some kid from AAA that is taking too long to develop (brownlie, koronka?)
  11. UK - as in University of Kentucky? If so, great. I live in Lex and work for/attend UK. no, of course i wouldn't tell the truth to someone random. but this conversation was with a media member and off the record. as a journalism undergrad and former reporter, i can tell you that sources are usually willing to open up when you tell them "off the record". they know that a reporter is only as good as his word to sources and one eff up can ruin that.
  12. don't worry, scott williamson is almost back and he can get out lefties and righties and he can go short and long and he can get a groundball or strikeout whenever he needs them and he'll knock down all balls hit back up the middle. i'm vomitting in my own mouth.
  13. here comes the gapper, or an error.
  14. i was hoping freel and novoa were mixing it up!!!
  15. wtf is on-field delay...please, someone in the chicagoland area, tell me what's going on!
  16. Hill has 100 times more value as a starter than a LOOGY. CALL IT. as crappy as the lefties in our bullpen have been lately, he has value anywhere. better yet, anyone that can get a left-handed hitter out has value!
  17. what is it with the late inning defense...are their buttholes too tight? rusch makes two critical mistakes yesterday and now lee.
  18. cubs bullpen is at it again. lefty can't get a lefty out. sure would rather see hill in the game than ohman/rusch/remlinger!
  19. how many different lineups has he used this season? barrett hits 8th last night, 5th today, probably 7th tomorrow and 6th the next day. burnitz goes between 4th and 5th 3 times a week.
  20. 6 hits in 2.1 ip. i'll be shocked if he goes 6.
  21. The old "Remlinger should't face a lefty" keeps coming to mind as to the Griffey homerun. I do think Rem is done though, he's broken down and just riding out the year. He doesn't get in much and we were losing last night game so it doesn't bother me. Mop up duty only, don't want to see Hill wasted at the bottom of the rotation like Cendeno and Murton are wasted on the bench when they could be developing in AAA. i don't think hill would be wasted as much as murton or cedeno. maddux, wood and williams aren't exactly eating up a lot of innings, so he would be pitching 2 or 3 times a week and getting a taste of the bigs which AAA just can't simulate. hell, with wood heading back to the shelf, maybe he should just join the rotation. speaking of murton, the guy goes 4 for 5 in game 1 and doesn't play games 2 and 3? nice. and cedeno should be splitting time evenly with perez at the least.
  22. that's why i added (new) to the end of the thread name. the other is 71 pages long and has turned into more of a discussion than documentation of DB's bonehead decisions.
  23. July 20 - Someone else referenced why the lineup was tinkered with and I agree. If you want to get Gerut ABs, put him in left. I don't think it's a coincidence that the offense has been revved up since Hairston took over in the leadoff spot for Corey and Walker was (FINALLY) moved into the 2 hole. Furthermore, all we read after Gerut was acquired was how he can play CF etc., yet he puts Burnitz there and Gerut in RF. With the game still in doubt late, he leaves Burnitz in CF and Gerut in RF instead of inserting the faster Hairston (who would have easily gotten to that ball Griffey hit in the 8th) and moving Burnitz to RF. Gerut had already batted in the 8th so it wouldn't have affected the offense at least until the 10th. Someone shoot me now.
  24. this may have been covered in the game thread... does anyone have the stat line from last night's game when a cub lefty was facing a reds lefty? i know remlinger gave up a bullet up the middle to casey, a 403-foot out to griffey and a 2-run double to cruz. rusch was pathetic and ohman wasn't exactly effective. does anyone else think remy should be designated and hill brought up to take his place? i mean, how much worse than remy would hill be?
  25. I'm sure Jim said all that to you and your pal. "I wouldn't trade Rich Hill for Adam Dunn, and I like Austin Kearns better!" Sounds just like him. if you read my post carefully, you'll see that i relayed the information second hand. i never claimed hendry said that to me. and since i hadn't read the southtown story, it would seem that what my pal told me he said is accurate since he told it to someone else. did i miss someone else's post on this board that is 1 person removed from a direct conversation with hendry? at least i didn't come with "my pal's uncle knows a guy who cuts jim hendry's gardner's hair and he said the cubs are getting ichiro for luis montanez!"
