  1. Ofcourse he is! He's Matt *freakin* Murton! If I got to A) play baseball at Wrigley Field for a living and B) make 300,000+ a year, with prospects for much, much more, I'd be happy a lot of the time too.
  2. BURN HIM!!!!! "We've found a Duke fan, may we burn him?" "How do you know he is a Duke fan?" "Well, he looks like one." "Burn him! Burn him!" Seriously, though, that's okay. You're an alum. You can't help that - and it counts as a legitimate reason to root for them. I grew up in North Carolina, so a lot of my friends are Duke alumni. I still give 'em hell, and I still always root against their team, but it's definitely a mostly friendly rivalry. So, as a die-hard Tar Heels fan, I say to you: no big deal. I'm looking forward to (read: terrified of) the game on senior night. It should be a good one. So long as your team doesn't pay off the refs (sorry, had to).
  3. Touche. I'm sure Hendry got the most that he could. It's too bad Maddux didn't want to go to the Rangers. We could have traded him for DeRosa. That brings up another point. Hendry's hands were really tied with Maddux's demands (which were well deserved). Hendry was staring at getting nothing for him and seeing what they had in the AAA/AAAA pitchers. Okay, I know you probably didn't mean it this way, but this sure looks like you just quoted yourself, and then said, "Touche." Which is funny.
  4. By the way, I've just discovered http://www.kenpom.com. It's pretty awesome - the best application of statistics to college basketball that I've seen openly available, with pretty clear explanations of what everything is. None of it is perfect, and he readily admits that, but I feel more comfortable with the statistics that he offers than I do with anything else. Does anyone know of any other sites that do similar stuff?
  5. He just can't fathom that a non-tournament bound team could ever beat his alma mater at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
  6. I can give you 136 million reasons why. Please do, I could use a new fleet of yachts Your old fleet's just not cutting it anymore, huh?
  7. I know. Quite an indictment of the Cubs' overall team, isn't it?
  8. I really think Murton could blossom into a very important player to this team - I doubt he'll ever be a superstar, but he should be consistently good to very good. And that's a type of player you love to have around, cause they're unlikely to get too expensive - I think it's in the best interests of the Cubs to do everything they can to nurture his growth here.
  9. Calvin and Hobbes? Yes. Awesome. Definitely is. Thirded (or fourthed, or fifthed; I can't tell).
  10. Does anyone know exactly how RPI is calculated?
  11. Seconded. I would love watching him freeze up hitters for a called strike 3 with it. I'd get all excited, even when the Cubs were losing pretty bad.
  12. 3/4 almost certainly won't work for me, no matter when we schedule it. I don't mind making a list, though, although that's not nearly as much fun.
  13. I would include Lee being able to produce at relatively close to 2005 levels to the list of keys to the season.
  14. If this happens, I will be a bit upset. Intentionally excluding arguably the best bullpen arm we've got (Wuertz) is just stupid.
  15. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Guzman seems like, for the first time in a few years, he's ready to pitch, and I really think he could have a major resurgence. I know others on this board think so as well. I want him in Cubs rotation at some point this season, unless he's really stinking things up.
  16. I'll pass, I'd rather play roto. A New Era/GilesBros, you want in, then?
  17. Z Hill Lilly Prior Miller Marquis becomes a long man. My guess is that someone (Marquis, Hill, Prior, or Miller) will get traded for a SS who can hit at the end of July. Now, CubinNY, you know that's ridiculous. That's what the Cubs would do if they were smart. C'mon.
  18. Zambrano might even prefer a five year deal to a longer one - in five years, he'll still be young enough to get another monster deal. Wishful thinking, I know. Just sign it, Z! Side note: The injury concern is there for me, as it is for so many others, but I don't feel as though Z is a huge risk to become a perennially injured pitcher a la Prior/Wood - he's actually through what's come to be known as the "injury nexus," or the age range when pitchers are most likely to fall apart due to overwork or abuse. So I'm not as hesitant to sign him to a long-term deal, as I feel that he'll be healthy for much of it, even if he does get injured. More wishful thinking, I know.
  19. I'm cool with everything GRCubsFan said. And GilesBros, I'd love to have you, but it looks like it will just be easier to keep it at 10. Apparently, there are gonna be a bunch of other leagues to pop up, so keep an eye out.
  20. I don't know if I've ever had bar-b-qued nachos (I don't even know how that would work), but Blue Moon is absolutely delicious, especially with an orange in it. Best beer ever. Fruit does not belong in beer, EVER. Are you afraid of scurvy? If you want to add something to Blue moon (belgian White of course) take a shot of Stolichnaya orange and then enjoy the best Blue Moon you've ever had. Interesting idea - I will try it, sometime. However, I will continue to put oranges in my Blue Moon regardless of your warnings about fruit in beer, even if it does call into question my manliness.
  21. So I know I'm a little late coming in here, but getting season swept by Virginia Tech (who isn't even a REAL ACC team to begin with) is really frustrating. I hope we see them (and crush them) in the ACC tourney.
  22. Just FYI, Yahoo requires all H2H leagues (if that is what you decide to go with) to have an even number of teams. Otherwise one team wouldn't have an opponent each week. Very good point. Things you don't think of when you've never played fantasy baseball AND you're stupid. So we can either just stop at 10 or open up for him and one more (assuming we want to leave H2H open as an option). Lastly, I just stumbled across this website of ESPN's. It looks like they're gonna start their own free fantasy hosting site. So I guess that's a possible Yahoo alternative, if you guys care.
  23. Not to rehash an old argument (I mean, what else do we do around here anyway?), but I will REALLY hate it if Murton loses significant playing time to Floyd. Murton, as far as anyone can tell, is on his way up, and he was already pretty decent last year. Floyd, while occasionally very good, is definitely on the way down. I like Floyd as a 4th outfielder - he can be a very good hitter. The idea of him platooning with Murton really gets my goat, though. I really like the phrase "gets my goat," even though I have no idea what it means.
  24. I don't know if I've ever had bar-b-qued nachos (I don't even know how that would work), but Blue Moon is absolutely delicious, especially with an orange in it. Best beer ever.
