    for a while Marlins have had a much richer supply of pitching than everyday players, so i have to assume that was a driving impetus for that move and it could have been easily excused if they had ever been able to keep more than 2 of Alcantara/Perez/Meyer/Luzardo/Garrett/Cabrera/Rogers intact at any particular time

    this is in the short running for the worst idea that i've ever seen proposed on this forum; i'm actually a little mad now at just how terrible this idea is the guy who wondered about the possibility of offering a 3/15 extension to Ryan Sweeney made better sense, than doing a thing like this

    the pythag record is still just 20-18 and nice to say that this is all despite key injuries (no other team experiences these hardships) but SP regression will probably hit way harder than the offsetting benefits we get from returning regulars all of this is to say, the bullpen and offense have to play way better to sustain any serious contention, and a trade or two is likely needed for the former to happen, and the latter should be seriously considered as well

    i'll tell anyone who listens that i firmly believe the Padres would be basically the Braves right now - a powerhouse set up for a decade of success - if Preller had any restraint

    i gotta wonder if PCA stays up for good when Belli returns and Busch moves to utility/DH role really cleaning up 2 problem spots defensively

    hey that's just the easiest default split i look to first hopefully his big month 13 months ago can be recaptured soon and we'll all let up our gripes

    last calendar year he's just 2.4 fWAR despite everyday PT which puts him in pretty unflattering company; maybe he goes on a surge and claws out of this grouping but none of these save Josh Lowe are valued highly by anyone – some were just bargain basement filler

    that's kinda the good and the bad of Jed's roster construction; having a team loaded with fairly mediocre players means you can easily weather the storm of a few injuries since there's not a ton of production to replace there, but it's also really tough to upgrade because none of these guys like Happ are a 'problem' per se, a flat 2 win regular doesn't kill you but on the whole it really caps the upside of the team's trajectory

    i quite honestly think it's the opposite; i'd argue Jed would seriously pause at this offer bc nobody's likely to top a current top-75 prospect and MLB-ready #3-4 SP with upside for more Mason Miller is appointment viewing for me, but his injury history is already pretty scary and these types of guys just have such a short shelf life that any responsible GM would seriously hesitate to surrender too much system talent on the off-chance a power arm remains intact for more than a few months at a time Felix Bautista would've seemed like an untouchable a year ago, i remember prevailing opinion insisting Joel Zumaya and Joba Chamberlain were untouchables with the false assumption they'd be shutdown relievers in perpetuity different circumstances but Jed was content to part ways with an effective controllable RP in Effross (seemingly) fully knowing how transient RP health and performance is

    this is true but also funny that what we're hoping for is his .234/.293/.280 expected slash line to normalize i know he can give us better than he's shown so far..like maybe an upper-mid-.500s OPS!

    i'm still extremely anti-Madrigal, his best-case scenario anymore is beating out a run-scoring FC "putting the ball in play" only matters if you're capable of finding the OF grass occasionally; .233/.268/.315 since last August has no role, you can close your eyes and point your finger at a AAA roster and find a better hitter

    i had seen a few sources worry about his inconsistent effort and assumed Campbell & Holmes would discount him on that basis

    reading up on the draft a lot for the Lions there seemed like such a small list of guys (something about "knee-biters") that they'd deign to select at their pick, so filtering out all the supposed bad culture fits i'm hoping for this board for them at 29: Cooper Dejean (unlikely to fall there) Kool-Aid Chop Robinson Legette trade down

    i got a little annoyed when Boog started saying that, i guess you're just not going to hear me complain about any reliever on this team "throwing too many strikes", we should be so lucky

    among active closers only these names have higher ra9-WAR for the last full calendar year than Adbert Tanner Scott Jason Foley Evan Phillips Craig Kimbrel Josh Hader Clay Holmes and nos. 1 & 5 are in danger of being moved off the role for a bit after some high-profile blowups he's still good in my book, that HR was kinda fluky altitude nonsense
