  1. i can't fully process what is even happening in this game
  2. this fuckin guy
  3. Schwarber's 6th-worst OF in baseball for statcast's Outs Above Average https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/outs_above_average UZR's filtering out so many plays with shifts and whatever else now (from what i recall) that its findings don't intuitively make a whole lot of sense anymore to me
  4. that's a better UZR than Kevin Kiermaier, which i, uh, totally believe
  5. I don't think it is laziness. He just doesn't read the ball well or see it some times. If you watch the play again, you can clearly see him jogging before he realizes he is out of position and he tries to sprint to the ball. He routinely does this. Some of his more "spectacular" catches were because he was out of position on the ball and managed to run it down. Show your work. Because the defensive metrics out there disagree with you, and no offense, but you're just a guy on a message board. -9 DRS in 800 innings is not good but if he hits .250 like in the 2nd half, it's largely a non-issue
  6. fun to watch a football game where the ball can't even be held onto
  7. so, about that we lead baseball in hitter WAR post-ASB by more than a little bit Cubs 14.8 Indians 13.0 we also lead MLB in both OBP & SLG by a fair amount - .351 team wOBA with Indians following up at .343 and Bryant is striking out at just 17% clip; Will's down under 18% (2nd half) Happ's a +12 UZR/150 CF long-term forecast for this team probably looks even better now than it did before the start of the season, i'd argue
  8. Javy leads the team in WPA & 2nd in RBI, post-ASB
  9. his career line inc. postseason is .229/.337/.482 so if you think he can hit .270 that's a monster bat in the middle of the order
  10. It is a big problem whose fault lies exclusively with the umpire. He handled that horrific call as best he could up until the quick hook on Contreras. Lackey was never going to shut up, toss him. But you make a call that egregious and influential you can't be that itchy on the trigger finger when Willy isn't even in his face. all Willy did was say something about next tuesday "i'm a big fan of your wife"
  11. Martinez was heading to the dugout! on that pitch it was so unquestionably a strike
  12. hey, remember when Theo signed Carlos Martinez but MLB voided it
  13. we could give it a try
  14. he was a 2nd rounder in my league
  15. i like going to his fg page to see that hitting .270/.314/.484 is somehow less productive adjusted to league avg than his empty average 2015 cameo: .289/.325/.408 hashtag juiced balls
  16. The Committee on Infractions (allegedly an independent entity that is separate from the NCAA) has got to be uncomfortable with all of this. Are they going to dismantle an entire football program, deprive a public institution of up to 18 million dollars in revenue, and affect the livelihoods of multiple individuals simply because of the inconsistent and totally uncorroborated immunity testimony of one player from a rival school? That's a terrifying precedent to set. You can be sure that schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Bama, and Auburn absolutely do not want that to become a thing. Michigan has zero composite top-100 recruits in their current class and OSU has 11 broader oversight and harsher penalties is something i suspect they'd welcome
  17. when he stands it looks strange like it's somehow reversed
  18. hell i even like him now an odd season with the bat so far; he's 2nd worst in team WPA, narrowly "trailing" ZobWrist but he's actually been fantastic with men on base: .889 OPS and whiffing just 21% frequency he totally falls apart in high leverage spots, which might mostly explain it, but just 29 PA so whatever
  19. i'd have gone with "Contrerian Viewpoints"
