1. Bench Drop: Ozuna Add: Vinnie Pasquantino
2. i'd love to hear some internal rumblings on Luis Verdugo to understand if/how he somehow flipped a switch "one simple trick turned me from Andrelton Simmons to Freddie Freeman"
3. he had a very upright stance and a pronounced hitch in his swing
4. i'm gonna need more clues than that
5. after a bad April he's been insanely productive, feels like one of those offseason helium guys when services realize how dominating he's been
6. good, then he should be easy to re-sign
7. they reportedly haven't even made him an offer to this point
8. have to think that fans of the lowly $1.6B franchise probably think it's hilarious that they just added the best hitter in baseball and are fine with hitting the CBT while an esteemed $3.8B franchise doing a multi-year firesale and preaching wisdom of fiscal responsibility twenty games under .500
9. the Soto trade honestly feels like a HR for both sides, pretty cool
10. he adds a bullpen arm
11. ..why does this narrative continue to prevail? 4.28 ERA last 3 years, all 3 seasons are 4+ That's mostly garbage time innings. Cubs relievers are 2nd in WPA this year and were 4th through last year's deadline. 10th in 2020, and I'm not gonna spend the time slicing and dicing it but I bet it's top 5 after Kimbrel's horrific first couple weeks. do you take out Kimbrel's otherworldly first half in '21 in this mental exercise? are the relievers getting bombed in garbage time innings not part of the 'pen?
12. kings ransom wtf Preller
13. ..why does this narrative continue to prevail? 4.28 ERA last 3 years, all 3 seasons are 4+
14. The Cardinals will find a way in the future with trading away some of their top prospects simply because they're the Cardinals. Somehow these two low-to-middle size payroll teams (Cards & Brewers) seem to stay competitive while we have to go into 3-4 year rebuilds after becoming competitive. the Cardinals draft & develop amazingly well
15. we also would've accepted "sampson gets me lifted" or "samson's horsefeathers is blessed"
16. big market team sits 40-57 in the standings fans: "they're smart to not overpay!"
17. we could add Yan Gomes, Daniel Descalso, Wade Miley, Andrelton Simmons for that kind of money!
18. in his last 645 PA he's hit .233/.298/.345, this would be good mostly for ensuring a bottom-3 record
19. even if you're ready to give him outsized credit in their overall P dev, mostly all their guys, Bieber/Plesac/Clevinger/Civale/Karinchak etc. were mid-late round finds- that should further remove the desperate need to expend such a heavy investment in the position, where you're still making a big reach with a top-10 pick against the universal consensus this is likely to remain a bad offensive ballclub for a long while (like CLE), which i fundamentally hate, and that really puts all our eggs in the Craig Breslow basket to be strongly competitive
20. yeah this is mostly where i'm at, taking 16?/20 pitchers makes it even more annoying for me that they targeted Horton so hard at the expense of safe, impact position players left available at 7 i guess the way that this all pays off is if we go completely nuts in spending on a top FA hitter or two with the budgetary gains of having an entirely home grown bullpen and similarly cheap in-house rotation, or develop so many of them well enough that we can get several trade bounties, but that all seems pretty far fetched given the org's spotty history in player dev
21. hadn't noticed until now Keith Law had Horton ranked #93 lol
