  1. I don't know how many games, I have watched where I have heard the announcers say "starting tonight (insert player) who was just called up from triple-A this morning". Seems like anytime a guy is called up they start that night. Well unless that player plays for a Dusty Baker managed ball club.
  2. I will go first: "Just bad luck that we ran into the Marlins when we did. They had lost 7 in a row and you knew it was just a matter of time before they got hot. We were just the unfortunate team that had to face them now."
  3. 100 dollars every time Jones gets doubled off second. 200 if there is a guy on third base ready to tag up.
  4. Sun Times article from today. If it is true, it is pretty sad..... "All in the family? Sneed hears top Chicago Cubs executives Andy MacPhail and Jim Hendry berated Chicago Tribune sports editor Dan McGrath and Cubs beat writer Paul Sullivan over what they felt was the paper's unfairly critical coverage of the team. The expletive-laced tongue-lashing supposedly took place last week at Wrigley Field, according to a source." Link: http://www.suntimes.com/output/sneed/cst-nws-sneed19.html
  5. Thanks, the embarrassing thing is I thought I caught myself at the last second when I changed it from "Sitting to Sighting"
  6. Walgreen Co. and the Cubs Re-Work Promotion Citing a lack of donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Walgreens Company announced changes to their ever popular Cubs Radio charity program are coming soon. At a press conference Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field, Walgreen Company Chairman David Bernauer highlighted the changes to the program. As it currently stands, each time a Cubs player draws a walk, Walgreens makes a $100 donation to JDRF, however, with just $9,800 raised through the first 37 games, Bernauer feels Walgreens can offer more and has proposed that the program be changed to a $100 donation each time a Cubs player has an at bat lasting at least four pitches. "When we sat down after Sunday's game and looked at the big picture, we decided that it wasn't fair to punish a great organization like JDRF for the Cubs total lack of patience at the plate. We think by cutting out the walks aspect of the plan and focusing on pitches we think we have a great opportunity to substantially increase, well I don't know about substantially, but at least increase our funding to JDRF. Following the conclusion of Sunday's game which saw the Cubs draw one walk (an intentional walk to Neifi Perez in the 5th inning) the Cubs had just 98 walks, good for last in the National League, 75 walks behind the Los Angeles Dodgers who currently occupy the number one spot in the category. "Seeing how the Cubs were last in the National League last year in walks, we should have anticipated this earlier, however, a lot of people, myself included, were fooled into thinking that this new speed and small ball approach the Cubs pitched to us all off-season would actually result in more walks. Clearly, nothing has changed, and so we needed to do something about it." Ron Santo, who also attended the press conference, was looking forward to the change. "Not a lot of things are going right with this club right now, but if we can encourage some of the guys like Neifi and Jaqcue (Jones) to work the count a bit and not swing at say the first pitch every time, I think everyone will benefit, but mostly JDRF!" According to Bernauer the Cubs had 10 at bats Sunday where they saw at least four pitches.
  7. After watching Friday and Saturday's games, I decided to do a little research this morning on Pierre and his groundouts to the pitcher and 2nd base. I found the percentage lower than I anticipated, although my expectations might have been too high after watching Friday and Saturday's games where 7 out of 8 (87.5%) of his outs were to the pitcher or second base. Notes: Bunt outs to either the pitcher or 2nd base were not included. All of the outs with the exception of two (one pop-out on Friday and one line-out on Saturday) were ground ball outs. During the first 30 games, Pierre reached base on an error by the 2nd baseman once, recorded three infield hits to 2nd, and recorded a single when the ball hit Cedeno while he he was running between first and second. None of these items were included in the below calculations. His longest streak was between games 4 and 5 where he recorded 5 consecutive ground outs to the 2nd base. He reached base just one time during those two games, an infield single to second. Juan Pierre outs recorded by pitcher or 2nd baseman: Games 1-10: 30 outs / 14 to pitcher or 2nd - 46.7% of outs Games 11-20: 26 outs / 6 to picher or 2nd - 23.1% of outs Games 21-30: 32 outs / 15 to pitcher or 2nd - 46.9% of outs Totals through first 30 games: 88 outs / 35 to pitcher or 2nd - 39.8% of outs If you remove his 12 strikeouts from the total, the pitcher or 2nd baseman has recorded 46.1% of Pierre's outs when he puts the ball in play.
  8. No, I am guessing that Corey just told Sam Perlozzo he wanted to bat lead-off. It worked with Dusty, he figured he would try it again....
  9. "I lay it on the line. I'm very rarely indecisive, and I'm not wishy-washy too much in my decisions. If anything I'm probably more headstrong in my decisions sometimes. Ask my wife. I don't change my mind." Except of course when he has decided to give a rookie a chance to play everyday, then he seems change his mind pretty quickly.....
  10. For awhile I was doing both, but when I finally got in, it was through re-clicking the link every 30 seconds or so.
  11. Yeah, look for me on tv. I will be the guy NOT on his cell phone and waving to the camera every 2 seconds.
  12. At those prices, only thing I could really afford was a "value date". Got 4 in Row A - Dugout for the May 18th Nationals game.
  13. yes....i finally got in around 10:30......
  14. Anyone else trying to get in getting an error that the page is not available?
  15. Hey has anyone on here ordered and recieved the Pat and Ron CD yet? If so, how is it? How long is it? Is it all "highlights" and clips or is it more like the Harry Caray tribute CD with a lot of folks just talking about Pat and Ron? Any info is apperciated.
  16. All the credit has to go to Dusty for putting him in a position to suceed!
  17. This was in Wed's Trib....Sorry Baker said left fielder Matt Murton would sit against Mets left-hander Tom Glavine on Friday, but will play Saturday against lefty Kazuhisa Ishii. Baker said he would try to get Murton at-bats, but he doesn't plan to platoon him with Matt Lawton, as he did with Todd Hollandsworth. "We're trying to get to the playoffs, so we're going to play whoever I think the best lineup is against that particular guy," he said.
  18. Don't forget we need Holly's defense! (and if he gets on his baserunning!)
  19. I have a feeling someone will ask Dusty after the game about starting Murton full time and Dusty will say "I was just thinking about doing that man, you read my mine, or some other BS" Then he will start him for a few weeks, until Holly gets two clutch pinch hits, at which time he will return to starting.
  20. It is nice to see Cedeno starting, although I have a feeling Dusty just wants to make sure Neifi is good and rested so when Nomar comes back and Cedeno is sent down, Neifi is ready to play everyday!
  21. Sure Murton was on base 4 times last night in 5 plate appearances, but as everyone knows, we really needs Holly's defense and baserunning back in that lineup today!
  22. I may be 15, but I know enough not to let 17 year old punks like yourself intimidate me.
  23. Let's focus on the positives, Neifi got a day off today, which means now he is well rested and will be able to play all three games. Wait a minute, that isn't a positive is it?
