  1. . This year's all gravy. Enjoy it. Pressure's going to be on the other teams. All I know is Arrieta has a golden arm and Schwarber always comes through in the clutch in the big games. Arrieta pitch good, Maddon smart he has glasses
  2. If you lose a review on how many balls/strikes there are, you should get kicked out of the game.
  3. Cards lost to Brewers today, so really in our best interests to let the Pirates win this one.
  4. Should we rest Jake tomorrow? Think home-field in WC game is out of reach. The ideal scenario is that Pirates/Cards tie and have to play on Monday and burn one of their starters.
  5. CSN Chicago will presumably cut in with coverage of the post-game party even if it's a Fox/ESPN game.
  6. I guess it only took them 12 min to eat the whole goat. Kobayashi is a beast
  7. Hendry/Baker-era Cubs would probably have 2-3 players on the DL with zoo animal inflicted injuries if they did this.
  8. bases clogged almost Dong Thirty
  9. dat D with 2 good shortshops up the middle
  10. Think the Cards stole our steal signs
  11. I love it when a plan comes together
  12. 5/15 versus the Pirates at Wrigley, birth of the Rally Double Bubble Bucket and Polanco falls down in the 12th.
  13. - Arrieta being insanely good for a whole season - Schwarber and Russell contributing so early. Knew Schwarber was going to be productive for us but I was surprised we actually brought him up to DH and then up for a good number of starts at catcher once Montero got hurt. - Fowler being terrible in the 1st half and awesome in the 2nd half - Soler and Castro sucking (although Castro has been pretty good lately) - Pitching/bullpen being simultaneously shaky and good - Maddon playing everyone in multiple positions and sticking to his lineup optimizations. It's generally worked out and everyone's played solid D at their other positions.
  14. Really good road trip Went 2-1 against the Cards, 2-2 against the Phillies, and 3-1 against the Pirates. I know it's frustrating since we had a chance to win the 4 games we lost, but 7-4 is still pretty darn good. The schedule's flipped at this point and I think we have an easier path the rest of the way than the Pirates All our games are either in Wrigley or nearby in Milwaukee/Cincy where there will be a bunch of Cubs fans.
  15. http://i.imgur.com/gHGPqiDm.jpg Best fans in baseball amirite?
  16. Wait, how different do you think baseball stats are now vs. 11 years ago? The smarter baseball fans are in tune with sabermetrics at places like Northside Baseball. Nomar was a pretty bad player in 2004 before he got traded to Chicago (-0.1 WAR lol), I guarantee you the reaction would be completely different had it happened now compared to 11 years ago. BP and BR were already around and well established at that point; it's not like it wasn't obvious he was coming back from an injury. He had also shown, just the year before, that when he wasn't injured he was one of the most valuable players in the game. I mainly remember people talking about OBP/OPS on here. Folks weren't talking much about defensive metrics or park adjusted stats, etc. A lot of that stuff existed but not on free Internet sites at the time.
  17. I keep forgetting that Haren started with the Cardinals and therefore has Jim Edmonds-like Satanic powers that he can use against them for the forces of good. They're eliminated from the Wild Card but they technically can still catch the Mets for the NL East.
  18. Cubs are 38-22 since Maddon had the magician perform
  19. That would be neat. Let's see that plus 5 dongs. Arrieta pitches a perfect game and hits for the cycle
  20. congrats to Javy on his first career MLB walk
  21. Hopefully his career ends at Wrigley in October.
  22. bryant with the jumbo dong tease
