  1. I've seen Japan, Korea, and Cuba all do it quite successfully on a regular basis.
  2. That drunk Puerto Rican guy yelling and posing for the camera was priceless.
  3. Tainted win, but we'll take it... really too bad for Japan though if that ends up eliminating them.
  4. Terrible, terrible call to overturn... what a crock.
  5. This Japanese team is playing pretty well today.
  6. I'm gonna guess they'll add as many games as they possibly can without conflicting with preexisting coverage they have to show. The WBC games have been doing pretty big ratings.
  7. You can play basketball one on one... you need a ton of people to field proper baseball teams at a competitive level beyond messing around in the backyard as a elementary schooler. I don't think it's as nearly as fun an individual sport to play for the average person as basketball, or even "throwing a football around". Have to wait to get up to bat, not involved in every play (especially in the outfield), etc, lots of dead time between pitches.
  8. The whole "we're going to stick to the pre-set gameplan, no matter if Canada is up on us or not" may bite the US in the butt. Dunno why you take out guys swinging hot bats when you're down two runs. We're lucky Gagne and Dempster aren't on their team.
  9. jesus christ, inside the park HR for Kanada... massive boos
  10. 3 runs away from the mercy rule
  11. How embarassing if Kanada beats us.
  12. Cuba's probably going to get to the second round, but they haven't shown me enough to make me think they'll get any further. IMHO, the DR will crush them, and Venuezla will beat them too. Chen gave Cuba problems and he's no Big Z or Santana. They've got great defense and some pitchers with decent stuff, but I didn't see the bats they need to compete. And their guys are in the middle of their season, so you can blame spring training like you can with the MLB batters on the various teams. It'll just get harder for them as the MLB players round into shape.
  13. 12) MLB drug testing causes many hitters and pitchers on rival teams to have down years from the norm or retire. The current Cubs team miraclously is 100% clean.
  14. He was taking a lot more than just "steroids", so it's easy to see how that could improve your skills tremendously, especially with a guy who was already pretty great like Bonds was.
  15. US hitters look pretty out of sync compared to the guys in the other games so far.
  16. Haha, Lee's getting a lot of practice at 1st base this inning trying to handle bad throws.
  17. Yeah, this is the biggest game of the first round... should have had it at Tampa or Miami's stadium. Crowd is jacked.
  18. Zero chance we start more than 3-4 homegrown position players.
  19. Ryu strikes him out with the Hadoken curve ball.
  20. This reminds me of the 98 Wild Card game, when they passed out O'Henry bars to everyone in the bleachers. After the HENRY RODRIGUEZ double which sent the bars raining down onto the field, Michael Tucker came over and stole a few of the candy bars and stuck them in his uniform. The crowd chanted for him to "EAT IT" and he did, during the delay!
  21. It's an entertaining train wreck at worst. It should be kept in my opinion.
  22. They haven't found equivalent stats in basketball to baseball yet like sabermetrics, so that's why the Mavs haven't won a NBA title yet (even though they've been consistantly in the top 3-4 of their conference since Cuban took over as owner). Dallas has the 3rd best record in the NBA at this point. A big part of that is their draft picks the last 3 years, at the bottom of the draft have been so good. Also, there is a salary cap in the NBA so it's not like he's dumping unlimited money into the team (he does pamper the players as far as having really luxirious locker rooms, etc). An owner like Cuban wouldn't spend necessarily more money on the Cubs, but he'd spend it much more wisely.
