  1. Actually, we really just need a guy who eats lefties for breakfast to platoon with Jones. Jones' production against righties is very adequate (.319/.351/.922) Ideally, said platoon player would also provide right-handed pop off the bench, could play 1B, and would be a good option to be the DH in interleague games. Craig Wilson would be a great example.

  3. Gammons said last night Prior back in 2 weeks, Lee back in 4 weeks. Of course I think he was just talking out of his rear end.
  4. I told you we'd flip the giant enemy crab! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRoSS3B8Nro
  5. This is the point in this season where we flip over the giant enemy crab and stab its weak point for massive damage.
  6. His minor league numbers are better than Todd Helton. This guy is a good player. Then he has no place on the Cubs. And for those who are concerned that he'll be blocked when Lee comes back, he should still get significant playing time because Lee won't be 100% right away. It's really a value situation. If Colorado is going to sell lower because of Helton's presence, then we should jump on Shealy. Worst case scenario he's a good bench bat. The guy can flat out hit. So if sign him, do we DFA Mabry? Mabry would seem to be redundant. Or do we DFA Bynum and use Mabry exclusively as OF? Mabry can also play 3rd. Mabry = leftie "power" bat. Bynum and Theriot go. You get rid of the 7th bullpen pitcher for Pagan when he's ready.
  7. We need a power bat off the bench anyway and Lee is going to need some time off... go get him. Not to mention he'd be a great guy to DH in the interleague road games in June. He may be still able to play OF too, once his elbow is completely healed up. Heck, couldn't Lee play a corner outfield spot?
  8. Consider those three guys equal Giles. That alone makes us a much better offensive team. And there's also a such thing as addition by subtraction. Not a big difference... maybe a game or two against lefties? Giles' OPS thus far: .759 Jacque's OPS thus far: .806
  9. So what's wrong with the payroll besides Rusch, Perez, and Jones? And would replacing that payroll with a couple good players really have kept us from sucking in this stretch?
  10. A manager worth his salt should be able to change Hendry's opinions on what type of players to bring in.
  11. That was pretty lame, I was expecting something other than fat guys jacking HRs and a couple weak diving catches.
  12. He'll be ready to throw enough pitches, so yes. Might be different if Guzman and Hill were owning, but they're not.
  13. Nobody gives up 714!! :D :D :D
  14. There's a salary cap in the NBA... what Cuban spent money on was coaching, perks for the players, and getting fans in seats. The big thing with Cuban is he believes in stat-based management. We'd get an organization that spent wisely, not necessarily more.
  15. I still don't understand why nobody ever hires a collegiate head coach with a ton of national championships (someone like an Augie Garrido)... baseball is baseball.
  16. Bonds better take his HGH tommorrow because Z is gonna be bringing the heat against him.
  17. how is giving up homeruns to guys like mcgwire and bonds shameful? steroids or not, they are the best 2 HR hitters i've ever seen play the game. It's shameful because 1) they're cheaters who broke US law, and 2) we get to see the endless replays on ESPN.
  18. We'd better not give up any HRs to him  The guy ought to get beaned every time he comes up to bat.
  19. We win that game if Maddux sac bunts instead of Bynum.
  20. At least Peavy's gonna be out of the game early barring us playing stupid... not like it matters.
  21. With Piazza's noodle arm at catcher tonight, I gotta think we'll get some runs tonight.
  22. http://www.rotten.com/library/culture/santo/santo3.JPG El Santo for the win tonight.
  23. The Boston Braves in 1914 were FIFTEEN games under .500 on the 4th of July and in last place in the NL. They won the NL by 10.5 games.
