    For the next 2-3 years, it looks like the Cards, Reds, and Brewers will have the NL Central, but that could change very quickly. Guys like Carpenter, Wainwright, Braun, Fielder, Greinke and maybe Pujols could find new homes in the next few years, and the Cubs have something that none of these teams seemingly have anymore, and thats a solid farm system. 2011 maybe, but we've got so much money coming off the books after this year that we'll be right back in it unless we spend it stupidly.

    Yeah, if someone would get Harang fixed he can eat a bunch of innings... he was as good as Z at one point.

    Do the Cubs really need pitching? Dempster's been really good this year (3.98 xFIP), Wells is looking like a mid-rotation type guy at least and Z and Gorzo are good bets to turn in decent seasons (mid 4s xFIP) You're counting on a lot of things to go right if you expect to compete with this current staff. I don't know if you've noticed, but outside of Dempster (who's more like a 2 or 3 and not an ace), we've been pretty bad. Silva's fallen back to earth and is average overall. Z is a headcase. Can't count on Gorzo pitching like we did this year. Wells has been below-average.

    Huh? You can stick anyone who can hit at 1B... there's no reason to move Soriano there when he's more valuable in the OF.

    I'd probably wait until the rosters expand to bring him back up, but yes, it's worth a try.

    d-lee just realized this weekend that this is his contract year apparently.

    Our pitching is just bad. Dempster did about what you expect based on his career numbers but he's a #3 guy, not an ace. He's not going to repeat his 2008 season again. Silva started off hot but tanked hard and has ended up being average. Wells has been below-average. Z's a head case and might be done. Gorzelanny probably just had his career year.

    The key is going to be not spending a ridiculous amount of money and overpaying for someone in 2011... save your money for 2012.

    Yeah, we're probably getting close to the point where Lou should get canned. 12 games back in the worst division in the NL with our obscene payroll is unacceptable. Hendry needs to go too, but I'd agree that he might be the best person to pull off a firesale so you might want to keep him on until August or so.
