  1. If Miller comes back as filthy as he can be, we're going to have a great rotation. Prior Zambrano Wood Miller Maddux sweet.
  2. That's suprising. Why? Because I recall more hard line drives than ground balls last season. That and Z has a much "heavier" 2 seamer. Z must strike more guys out, thus skewing his ratio :D
  3. And here all along I thought he was only starting because of his outstanding ability to hit into double plays. Neifi Perez= extremely poor on base percentage, poor plate discipline, ground ball hitter to the extreme, little to no power. These are NOT the type of characteristics you want hitting 2nd in your line up. Ever. Period. 2nd is also not where you hide a guy in your line up when they have these characteristics. If the only reason Neifi is starting at 2b is because of his defense, why will he be batting 2nd in the order? Sounds to me as though Dusty thinks he can contribute offensively. There is no difference between Neifi batting 2nd or 8th in the lineup according to Bill James. The only thing that matters is whether or not Neifi plays or not. he's going to play. Get over it.
  4. Doesn't sabermetrics tell us that batting order matters very little? OK then stats people. Quit your complaining. :D
  5. I wouldn't read too much into that. The ump's strikezone was tiny.
  6. Because that was probably one of those few and far between times when the pitch was perfect enough to swing at. But if someone hacks at the first pitch and creates an out, that's essentially the worst thing you could do with your at-bat (striking out eats up 3 pitches at least), and the hitter should definitely be criticized for it. No, it's not the worst thing to swing at a first pitch. It depends on the pitch and the batter's preferences. If he mashes anything on the inner half and that's where the ball is, go for it. This isn't MVP 2005. You might get one chance to hit your pitch in an AB. Just b/c someone doesn't crush a HR doesn't mean it was a bad pitch to swing on. Sometimes you just don't execute.
  7. Who's Mariotti? Is that some sort of Italian food?
  8. Well, Neifi did hit a GS against the Cards...
  9. Maybe he just wanted to work on his tan a while longer.
  10. I guess that electoshock therapy worked after all.
  11. Hill deserves a shot if Williams &/or Rusch can't get it together in their next appearance. However, it's not like this year's version of Hill has great command of the strikezone. I'd rather see Ryu. At least he can throw strikes.
  12. How in the world does Dusty deserve a raise. I can see keeping his job from an old school standpoint and looking at the injuries he's had to deal with (he didn't bring Prior and Wood on this team). But a raise?! Back to reality, Dusty. What was your record last season?
  13. I still don't understand how our young players are question marks while teams like the Brewers have all future stars. Murton looks like the real thing and Cedeno has been successful at every level. Jones makes too much money, but is an "adequate" OF. Murton does look like the real deal. I agree. However, Cedeno has not been successful at every level. Take a look at his stats: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/ronny-cedeno.shtml Cedeno got his butt kicking in A ball, put up a mediocre showing in AA, and got it together for 245 AB in AAA. His VWL was two sided. His D was shoddy (that's putting it nicely) and his K/BB ratio was in the toilet. Then he had 80 AB in the bigs. Nice, but even Dubois did well in the beginning. It's not just a Dustyism to say that pitchers don't have the book on him. Cedeno is in for a rough season b/c he doesn't have plate discipline. He carries his offensive woes into the field and we'll be seeing Neifi every day by the ASB. Our guys are question marks b/c our organization has a very poor track record of developing successful position players. The Braves are the extreme opposite. Murton is less of a question mark, given his skillset. Cedeno had one good year. One. In his first two years he was 18 and 19 years old...and playing in Boise and Lansing...last time I checked both of those places are a LONG way from Carabobo (cool name for a town) Venezuela for a kid just out of high school...He hit damn near .280 by the time he turned 21 in AA. These stats aren't doing anything to convince me that he's crap. Just an update. Ronny was a crappy 2 for 3 with another run scored. Like I said before, wait until the book is out on him. I'm glad you can throw out 2 years of baseball, but then cite 3 AB as proof of your argument. Convinced me. Totally. Did you even read the post before it? No wonder why there's so much bickering on this board. Obviously I did read it as I referenced the 2 years he was talking about. I'm glad you felt the need to call me out on something you were guilty of. Brilliant!
  14. And what did Freel's speed do to us today? ...besides exposing Barrett's defensive deficiencies...

  16. Barrett isn't even close to being the worst defensive catcher in baseball. Piazza makes Barrett look like a sure thing gold glover. Barrett did have a bad day today. He didn't position himself correctly, made a poor throw, and let a catchable ball go off his glove. What has this team been talking about all offseason? It doesn't seem to be focus and fundamentals. Lee drops a ball yesterday and Barrett looked horrible. You don't win close ballgames with that garbage. I'm sure Lee and Barrett know that, but I'd like to see some improvement. Barrett pulled this garbage last season too after starting out strong defensively. Pay attention to detail.
  17. Because Lee's throw was well short of the plate. What?! Barrett played the short hop, and he was in front of the plate on the first base line. you position yourself to block the plate, not for a hypothetical throw in the dirt.
  18. Because Lee's throw was well short of the plate. What?!
  19. wake the F up Barrett. position yourself.
