  1. It would bother me more if his lack BB was a sign that he was swinging at bad pitches and getting himself out. He's swinging at a lot of pitches (T/S ratio of 0.62) but he's also swinging at pitches he can hit. He's making contact about 87% of the time, slightly better than Aramis but slightly worse than Lee. How many pitches is he seeing per PA? I don't remember many ABs where he was even close to drawing a walk, but that's just my perception. It's nice that he's making decent contact, but if he's not drawing walks (limited AB so far), he's not getting on base at a decent enough clip. He isn't going to hit .350 over the course of a full season.
  2. I don't know if Edmonds used roids or not, but it looks like his time and dive garbage is starting to take a toll on his body. I don't feel the least bit sorry for him, either.
  3. Just a week or two wouldn't be enough for this year to count toward arbitration. The only way it counts is if he spends enough time in the majors to be among the top 17% of first-year players in terms of service time. Good point.
  4. I wonder if he talked to Bynum about dogging it in RF. :x I'm glad Aramis was talked to. Play the game the right way. Thanks for the recap. :D
  5. He certainly seems comfortable hitting with 2 strikes in the count. It's certainly more pleasurable watching Murton hit with 2 strikes than CPat.
  6. Rusch gets my vote too. Someone (UK?) points to stats showing that Rusch is better at starting than pitching out of the pen (sucks at both). Totally cool, but I'd rather have Rusch blowing a few middle innings than the first 5-7 innings of a game. I'd love to DFA him, but I guess he gets his millions anyway if no one picks him up. Who would? Texas?
  7. you realize you've been saying crap like this all through the spring and the season thusfar, right? why not just quit being so stubborn and admit that you just might be wrong? i realize that's difficult for you to do, but it's something to take into consideration. Meat is also the guy who thinks Ronny is "crappy" so take it with a grain of salt/pessimism. :D (Not to hijack the thread...but Ronny's still hitting .351) When have I ever slammed Murton? I've said he deserves the starting job in LF. I was upset about the possibility of Grissom possibly taking away his playing time. He earned that spot last season in limited AB. So far he's proved that the Cubs org. did make the right decision. Somehow not dubbing him a "stud" based on limited AB makes me an idiot. Ronny has been a train wreck defensively. He's on pace for 48+ errors. I do appreciate his range, but his throws leave something to be desired. It doesn't bother you that his BA = OBP? It should.
  8. you realize you've been saying crap like this all through the spring and the season thusfar, right? why not just quit being so stubborn and admit that you just might be wrong? i realize that's difficult for you to do, but it's something to take into consideration. attack the post, not the poster. Anyway...the limited number of AB against ML competition makes me leary of his hot start - that's just basic statistics. You really expect him to put up those numbers in a full season? I don't. I expect decent numbers, but not great. I will be stunned if he ends up with a .900+ OPS.
  9. It just sounds like he's never going to make the necessary adjustments to improve. Hopefully something will click for him. His hitting philosophy is fine, provided you can recognize pitches. From the guy who hasn't seen a high fastball he didn't like, it's the wrong philosophy.
  10. We're pretty stocked on left handed pitching (in the minors). Zito would be a waste of money.
  11. I'd rather not start Pie's arbi clock for a 1-2 week stint.
  12. - Rotoworld Mabry is a beast. Elbow to the back (unintentional) takes out one of the few big bats the Pirates have. Brutal. Unfortunately Wilson is a much much much bigger bat than Casey. I wouldn't say that. I think Wilson is the better player b/c of consistency and he'll be good for a 800-850 OPS. Casey is all over the place, probably 780-925 OPS. Lots of potential, but little consistency. It certainly doesn't help your ballclub to lose Casey for several months. Wilson is a great fallback option though.
  13. Jones isn't getting traded this year. Yes, most fans think he stinks, but the organization really likes him. They thought he deserved a three year contract at FA dollars (i.e. top dollar). That should tell you something. Even half a season of poor play won't get him traded as the front office won't want to admit it made a mistake.
  14. meh. what a waste of good pitching performances.
  15. He and Pierre hang out at the McDonalds PlayPlace. and pierre orders the "toddler" happy meal :) Dusty comes in. "OK, kids, time to go play baseball! Wheeee!!"
  16. Eyre, have I told you lately how much I love you? Have I?
  17. hahahah, thanks for the check swing call ump!
  18. Pierre will never strike out 100+ times in a season. Never. that will make his sub .300 obp so palatable. it will still suck, but at least Pierre sees a lot of pitches, helping get the starter out of the game and helping the guys behind him.
  19. Pierre will never strike out 100+ times in a season. Never.
  20. he's had about 40 AB this season. a hot start, that's all. he's going to be solid, but he won't keep up a 1.000+ OPS till the ASB.
