it's pretty hard to proove steroids are responsible for the dip in HR rate b/c there are so many other factors involved in determining HR rate. i don't think you could successfully separate the variables that contribute to HR rate, statistically speaking. the dip may very well be related to steroids, but we won't know for sure.

1st multi-hit game since 9/2. Only his 3rd multi-hit game since coming back in August. he doesn't even look like the same player today. level line drive swing + patience. :?

We certainly need to do something in CF. Hunter for a year or two until Pie comes along would be nice (i realize he isn't a stud offensively nor is he going to be a web gem master with Wrigley's brick wall). Hairston plays CF well enough for an infielder, but he makes the routine plays difficult with his lack of OF instincts. I don't mind overpaying for Hunter. We're going to overpay in this market, whether it is via FA or trade. It happens when you don't develop enough low cost / high talent position players in your farm system.

Maybe Lovie should go back to Gilligans Island because the Baker way is the right way. Until the GM releases the veteran they get major playing time no matter how bad they are. He's reached the 500 level many times and can prove it's the right way. the "right way" is 6.0 GB of the wild card right now. :wink: Well...the Cubs would be 50 games back if it was done any other way. and that statement is backed by... :? I like your pen, but only if Marte is the '02 or '03 version. What's his problem lately anyway? Mitre and Welly aren't exactly solid contributors at the ML level. I wouldn't miss seeing them go for a chance at straightening Marte out. I doubt we'd be the only club in the running for him if he was to hit the market though. -
