  1. Does anyone think Damon's personality belongs in the Wrigley clubhouse? For the most part we have family men and responsible adults, not the rockstar, cheat on your wife hippies. Performance wise, he doesn't belong in cubbie blue anyways, but we know how much value Hendry places on character.
  2. I really want Furcal, but agree that those 3 don't necessarily excite me into thinking we'd be contenders. However, I look at Furcal as having the Lofton-catalyst effect of a few years ago, allowing us to mix small ball with the long bal. no small ball, plz. So you like futility in tight games games then? Being able to play different styles of baseball when the need arises is how you win. or you could play the odds and win more games.
  3. Williams is by far the most attractive trade bait of Rusch/Williams. We're not going to get all the holes on this team filled by FA. Someone's getting sold downriver, and Williams seems to be the most likely candidate.
  4. hyperbole If Prior, Z and Wood are all healthy, the Cubs can beat anyone. That's proven to be a big if. very big if. :pig:
  5. The number of SB doesn't matter. The rate does. It's pretty obvious that CPat has no plate discipline and isn't likely to develop any sometime soon. I don't imagine we'll be batting CPat leadoff, so who cares what his OBP is? He can keep CF warm with good defense until Pie arrives (or we can get a cheap leadoff hitter in Lofton for less money and prospects than it will take to get Pierre).
  6. I'm not a big fan of giving Furcal 4/40 like he wants, but Pierre is ridiculously overrated. We don't need Neifi with speed batting leadoff. Furcal.
  7. If all goes well and that rotation stays healthy, we're going to have some unhappy campers on our hands (Rusch and Williams).
  8. Pierre? Come on, Hendry. You'd better get the giles brothers if you're going to pull that crap.
  9. lol, and several people immediately shot him down.
  10. That's beyond ludacris. That's just dumb (and admittedly creepy if true). At this point we need to take whatever help we can get.
  11. the last couple of years it's like hendry tries to copy whatever the last ws champ did. the red sox were such a close knit, team chemistry delight he got rid of all the bad attitudes. the white sox apparently had their success w/ pitching and defense, so that's what hendry wants to do. it's too bad he didn't pick up on the red sox love for OBP and stud sluggers to drive runs in.
  12. well, we know Epstein can put together a good O. Hendry is incapable of that. OBP OBP OBP!!! lol
  13. Lucchino is a dink. It's pretty telling when someone turns down millions just b/c they don't want to put up with your political garbage.
  14. what?! i thought he just signed a 3 year extension. :?
  15. Triple B, Not to be pedantic about it, but the quote did say, "He said Cubs priorities include pitching and defense..." The word "includes" could be interpreted to mean that "in addition to other items we've mentioned previously (fundamentals, base running, power, speed), we are also going to focus on pitching and defense." From dictionary.com: include (1) To take in as a part, element, or member. (2) To contain as a secondary or subordinate element Perhaps, I'm looking for a needle in the haystack here, but I would have been really worried if he had said, "Cubs priorities are pitching and defense..." Hoops =D> This jives with the Gammons thread, which notes that the Cubs have been "aggressive" in pursuing Brian Giles (a/k/a, "OBP Superman") thus far. By now we should also be familiar with the fact that Hendry uses the press to deflect attention from the direction he is really headed. I haven't seen him give anything away during his tenure as GM. ...you mean besides Sosa. ba-da-ba-pssh!! be here all week.
  16. i'll get my pitch fork. let's see if she can float with a couple holes in her.
  17. omfg. who needs OBP and a lefty power bat in RF when we can improve the defense. bring Burnitz back! whoohoo!! *%$#!!!
  18. we deserve a 50M payroll. that way maybe someone will pay some freaking attention to OBP and stop overpaying for mediocre talent.
  19. Wow! Not a chance. Trading TWO guys who's values are at their lowest along with another guy who is very productive given his salary. With all of these suggestions for Cedeno to be penciled in as a starter, does anyone have any projections for him for a full season? What if he has an offensive season that looks like Patterson's past season? Can the Cubs win with that kind of everyday production? Who is his back up if that's the best he can do? Because we don't know whether he can be a plus production guy or a minus production guy, I don't think it's a good idea to pencil him in as a starter on a team that is in desperate need to improve offensively. The 2006 ZiP projections for the CUBS were just released the other day...... Name P AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS Cedeno ss .287 .332 .412 113 345 46 99 15 2 8 40 20 63 13 4 That's much better than Neifi.
  20. I don't think that's accurate. My recollection is that Dusty justified using Mark Guthrie (instead Dave Veres and others) in the 10th inning of Game 1, because he did not want Veres "to have to face Lenny Harris," who was available as a pinch hitter from the left side. So instead, he used Guthrie -- and the Marlins usedLowell, who was available as a pinch hitter from the right side. yup, it's called being outmanaged.
  21. Where did he come up with those projections for Burnitz and Hollygagger anyways?
