  1. Who cares about these "individual awards" if they're just going to throw in team performance too? The Cy Young is a joke and so is the MVP award. They go to the right people about once in a decade.
  2. i think i'm just going to ignore the trade stuff until there is an official statement on cubs.com.
  3. hahaha, Patterson's stock is so low. Lohse?
  4. Pierre is an impending Free Agent coming off a sub 700 OPS season. Nolasco, Pinto, Marshall, Guzman, Ryu should not be involved. If Hendry really is pursuing this hard for Pierre, it's disheartening. Jim, Juan isn't all that great at catching the ball. I'm really hoping this rumor is bogus. I don't think I'm going to like the outcome.
  5. At least Rothschild isn't living in Lah Lah Land like Dusty.
  6. i didn't find it difficult to comprehend Good for you and thanks for making another post about nothing. You get one gold star. :D PMSing? That was original. Seriously, why do you keep wasting posts with nothing to say? then end it by not responding, please.
  7. Even if we're renting Pierre for one year, this means Patterson won't be back (the odds were against it anyway).
  8. rotoworld.com is also reporting this story (citing ESPN 1000 as well). here's their commentary: "ESPN Radio 1000 is reporting that the Cubs are close to acquiring Juan Pierre from the Marlins for a pair of minor leaguers. No Corey Patterson? We hope the Cubs wouldn't give up Felix Pie for one year of Pierre. Parting with pitching prospects, say Rich Hill along with Sean Marshall or Renyel Pinto, would be preferable."
  9. Neifi cannot be traded until June 1st i wasn't serious.
  10. minor leaguers or players who should be in the minors? maybe we'll get lucky and trade Neifi and Patterson for Pierre.
  11. do Murton and Cedeno qualify as "minor leaguers"? well, at least we're coming up with a way around Furcal at leadoff.
  12. I have a feeling you are right! I hope he calls Hendry a moran. About the trade...I kind of like it depending on the prospect. Our bullpen could use some help. I think we'd have to get Furcal for Walker to be traded though, which kind of places this trade on the back burner (a possibility, but not even close to being done).
  13. If you're that concerned about Ronny's production then moving him from short to second makes even less sense. The replacement level for offense from a second baseman is higher than it would be from a shortstop. If we're serious about giving him a shot, it makes the most sense to do it as a shortstop, where he has the most value. You misunderstood what I was saying. I'm not concerned about his production. I was saying that i'd bet on it being easier for Cedeno to move from short to second than it would be for him to hit .300/.356. And I don't see why he has any more value at SS than he does 2nd. I don't believe in this nonsense that offense has to come from certain positions. It's absurd. So a C should be as offensively valuable as a RF? Go ahead and look up the stats. it's not even close.
  14. Why is the Cedeno concern unreasonable? The Cubs saw something about him at age 20 that made them want to protect him on the 40 man roster. Last year, he hit: .355/.403/.518 at AAA .300/.356/.375 at Chicago Granted, the at bats in Chicago were a small sampling, but what if he really is a .300/.356 type hitter? With Nomar coming back for 1 more year, we have the opportunity to get a better look at Cedeno and find out. With Furcal signed for at least 4 years, Cedeno doesn't get that opportunity. Cedeno is a SS, not a 2b. Maybe he can make the transition, maybe he can't. Cedeno at SS leaves the door open for Giles. Furcal probably doesn't. RF is the biggest position of need, IMO, just ahead of the need for a lead off hitter. If the Cubs trade for Pierre, lead off is addressed, but RF is still a black hole. If Cedeno is the real deal, he's wasted as a back up if we do get Furcal. Cedeno is a risk. He had one good season. that's not a good track record. Taking a risk with one starting position player's spot just to have a chance at Giles seems a little unreasonable to me. Hendry won't pay for giles b/c of the $ and years he's likely to get above what Hendry is willing to pay, not b/c of some of our other acquisitions taking up too much of the payroll.
  15. that's great news. i don't love Furcal, but Hendry's plan collapses w/o Furcal. say we give him $9M per year for 4 years (maybe even an option on the 5th). 4/36 ain't bad, IMO.
  16. if we give up that much for pierre, i'm not going to be happy. supposedly furcal and pierre are Hendry's two dream players. that sucks b/c I like Hill. Patterson I could care less about.
  17. supposedly the Dodgers offered Epstein an owner's share of the club as well as a respectable salary. i doubt Epstein bites (if that whole "he wants to pursue happiness" bit is true).
  18. 1. we've already gone down that road before and it didn't work. 2. how many millions has he taken off of us? 3. true, but his range is very limited with that groin injury SS isn't the optimum position for keeping him healthy. 4. the good will may be gone after the cubs org.'s Furcal love fest. 5. change positions to where? LF? 3B? None of those are feasible or reasonable given his production. He's a waste of money in LF and I'll take Ramirez over Nomar at 3B any day. 6. I'd love Giles in Wrigley too. I agree with your assessment of the Furcal situation.
  19. Why don't you see a trade with Cincy? They need cheap, good pitching. We have cheap, good pitching. We can give them quality or quantity. it all depends on how much Hendry is willing to give up for Dunn or Kearns. We have the pieces to get one of them (assuming the Reds will trade within the division).
  20. Nomar can't play SS well any more (he wasn't a defensive monster even when healthy). If we had a solid OF, I'd love to have him with Cedeno waiting in the wings for the probable injury. We don't have a solid OF, so Nomar is gone. Nomar in the OF is ridiculous and Nomar at 3B doesn't work for us. Nomar has to go, although he is a super nice human being and a stud with the bat (at SS) when healthy. This offseason's success depends on what we get in the OF. A stud OF will make me overlook Cedeno at SS and Neifi at 2B (worst MI scenario) as at least the defense will be solid. So far Hendry looks to be after mediocre OF options (Pierre, Mench). That's not encouraging.
  21. whether that FG return was luck or stupidity from the opposition, i'll take it. bring on Carolina.
  22. Yep, good points. The sky hasn't fallen yet. It appears the Cubs are in good position w/ Furcal. It's unrealistic to expect him to sign a few days after free agency begins. Most top 5 free agents take a while. good point, but is hinging the rest of your offseason on a top 5 free agent signing a smart move? i hope Hendry's backup plan for Furcal falling through is solid.
  23. The Cubs have been doing this as long as I can remember. Let Player A walk because you're pursuing via trade/FA Player B. Player B doesn't come here, Player A is gone, so you're stuck with incredibly inferior Player C. Yeah - none of th other ML teams do this...ever. I never once said no other team did it. I'm stating the Cubs do it far more often than other teams. If anything, it makes what the Cubs do even stupid. Not learning from your own mistakes as well as not taking a lesson from others' failures is doubly stupid.
