  1. good point. IMO, we need a decent fielding RF. Pierre has mediocre range for all his speed and Murton seems a little rough sometimes. It would be nice to have at least one gun in the OF. Where is all of this stuff coming from about Pierre being a bad defensive player? I've always thought he was considered to be a good CF with just a weak arm. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, just asking where this information is coming from. I keep seeing people say things like he takes bad routes on balls, or he gets late jumps. You people make him sound like he's another Moises. What I'm asking is, is he really considered that bad? I don't think he's bad, but compared to the rest of CFs in the MLB, he's clearly in the bottom 1/3. he really doesn't have great range for CF, if you go by his defensive stats, which is surprising b/c he is freakishly fast. that leads to the conclusion that he takes bad jumps and routes (besides subjective visual evidence, lol). he's definitely not Moises Alou post knee surgery, but we're comparing him to MLB centerfielders, not OF in general, who usually get that job b/c they have solid range and speed.
  2. Pierre's SB% could nose dive with Neifi batting in the two hole. Neifi ruined so many hit and runs and steals (initiated by the runner) last season. Please don't let Neifi bat 2nd. PLEASE!!
  3. If Pie develops and is ready by next season, then there's no way on earth you want to keep Pierre as a 4th OF. You'd let him walk and (depending) offer arb for the draft picks. True, although say we back off from power a bit, and have Pierre and Pie in the same of, with Murton in left? Is that too much of a lack of power, or do you think we can pull it off? It's a bit much to think Pie could change to RF and hit with enough power to make it worthwile. Likewise, Pierre would be completely useless anywhere but CF. i don't know about that. i'd enjoy watching Pierre ride the pine with Neifi.
  4. he certainly can play RF, but his value plummets in right.
  5. I'd really like to see a better SB% from Pierre in 2006. If he gets on at a .360 clip with 80%+ SB%, I'll be showing him love all season long. I don't care how he gets on, as long as he gets there. I really don't like the up and down nature of his game, but this team is due a little luck.

  7. Sure, but after we take care of RF, can we concentrate on CF?
  8. at least we got this leadoff hitter nonsense out of the way. now we can maybe address the biggest hole on this team from day one of the offseason - RF.
  9. where's our all important leadoff hitter? Bradley I believe. i'd prefer to bat him lower in the order, but I saw this: Bradley 2005 leading off: .381/.443/.603/1.043 (63 AB)
  10. I went to bed hoping this rumor wasn't true. Oh well. Pierre will be OK in 2006. He isn't ideal and we paid way to much considering that he is a one year rental, but Hendry was desparate after losing out on furcal. Of the two, I'll take Pierre even though it cost us Mitre, Pinto, and Nolasco. He's only around for one year (not 5). I'll comfort myself with that. Hopefully he's gone with Baker and Hendry.
  11. I don't think that is the issue. The issue is Juan Pierre and his value.
  12. Little gets to manage Colletti's mess. :( Good luck. I think Little deserved better, especially after the Boston treatment.
  13. If he has any clue about how best to maximize the lineup, then it should be Murton. so... basically what you're saying is Murton bats 7th next year. 8th. Definitely. Gotta maximize that 8th spot. It's a weakness in most other lineups, but in the Cubs lineup? It's as good as a solid 2hole hitter. well, at least he's setting the table for Z and Prior.

  15. We're getting him for 1 year. Nolasco and Pinto? *&%# It's going to be tough to fill our holes if the market is like this.
  16. I can't believe this one snuck through. I hope you meant "oh"... haha, what was he/she thinking about.
  17. He's supposed to get on base, then get past first on his own. That's the job of every hitter, whether they hit first or eighth. Pierre does the former pretty well(not last season), and has never done the latter well. It hurts his value because he can't provide as much at the offensive end. Throw in his poor defense and less than stellar baserunning capabilities, and he's just not worth it to me. how does a guy with his speed have so few doubles? Too many triples? :jocolor: That's what i mean. It's like if he gets it in the gap he's on 3rd. Does he just get a lot of crap singles or what? That's what it seemed like whenever i saw him play. hey, whatever works, but it doesn't seem to be a super consistent way to get on base.

  19. Do we want to match Marte for Lugo? OK, I get it: you do not want Lugo or Pierre. Of the one's realistically left, who do you want? I want Lugo, but Marte is a better prospect than Pie. It's not worth it for what we want him for. Forget Lugo, lets get Marte. I think they need a shortstop and a leadoff hitter, both things we're fresh out of. That sucks b/c Marte is a stud.
