  2. The subject of Kerry Wood was brought up and Barrett's response was shockingly honest. (Not a direct quote). He said that the players and Cubs fans should "expect the worst" and that there's a chance he "may not pitch at all next year."
  3. http://www.suntimes.com/output/couch/cst-spt-greg112.html Prettty funny read.
  4. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub11.html I get sick to my stomach just reading this crap. Especially how "valuable" Neifi is.
  5. I don't think scouts are expected to always be right. in fact, they are mostly wrong. But to go 0 for everybody in regards to position players? Since I have been watching the Cubs, about thirty years ago, I can think of only one top-notch position player drafted by the Cubs: Bill Madlock. Who was let go over money, of course. If I've left anyone out, please list. I know scouts aren't "expected to always be right", but for the love of God, the Cubs track record is abysmal. And just because scouts "are mostly wrong" excuses the Cubs ability to target everyday successful big leaguers? I'd like to see just ONE guy in my lifetime. I guess I'll just wait to see the next "golden boy", Felix Pie. Given the Cubs success, I have my doubts.
  6. Bingo. If the Cubs cannot produce position players, then the scouts who originally tag them as potential big league players have to be a big part of the problem also.
  7. I think I'm more upset about the Cubs organization completely missing on their evaluation of Corey. Wasn't he another untouchable "five-tool player"? Their development, or lack thereof, of position players is scary. I'm happy the Cubs got anything for Patterson. And if he succeeds in Baltimore, more power to him, cause it sure wasn't going to happen with the Cubs.
  8. The Cubs profits have never been public knowledge. Good luck trying to track down that figure.
  9. Just for fun I thought I would add up the IP's since 98 (Wood's first year) Johnson 1859.2 Pedro 1600.7 And for fun I thought I would go to the next current pitcher listed: Schilling 1663.3 And Wood's by the way? 1109.0 Eric Plunk is #12 on the K/IP list, so I'm not quite sure of the gravity of this stat.
  10. Not true, Don Baylor went on record and had some pretty revealing comments about CPatt's attitude problem and the probability that CPatt would never reach his potential. So to put the blame squarely on Baker is wrong. Can you provide a link or something? I believe Baylor mentioned something about Patterson not being able to reach his potential, but I have never once even remotely heard anyone say anything bad about Patterson's attitude or work ethic. Corey was praised for coming back from his knee injury so fast. Stone, Caray, Kasper, Brenly, Baker and Hendry have all said that Corey works hard to get the extra time with coaches, but it doesn't translate on the field. The only people who have said he has an attitude problem are people who say he looks emotionless when striking out. This was what I could find on this. No real info on a attitude problem. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62715-2004Feb22.html "The Chicago Cubs center fielder was knocked as too impatient during his rookie season two years ago. He didn't listen. He didn't know the strike zone. Even former manager Don Baylor criticized him, saying last spring he might wind up as another Oddibe McDowell - a speedster who never quite lived up to lofty expectations." The sad thing is they have comparable numbers.
  11. Two things: 1) "projected" 2) Thank Dusty 1) "Projected" with the Neifi Fan Club President managing? Bad. 2) Did Dusty offer him the two year deal? I guess all of Dustys' toys have to be taken away from him. My question is: why not Macowiak in the Neifi role?
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub07.html Starts about about Patterson trade, then this nugget is in there: "Neifi Perez is the projected starting second baseman for '06" Thanks, Hendry.
  13. Another Cub "untouchable" minor leaguer. Remember all the reports of teams that contacted the Cubs for Patterson a few years back? Five tool player? Hardly. Another position player "swing and miss" by the Cubs minor leauge system. I pray to God Pie is the real deal.
  14. Here's my question: Why didn't the Cubs trade for Macoiwak if he was available?

  16. Don't worry....you can still get tickets down the street.......
  17. Gotta agree with this, and I hate the White Sox. Though, I have always been a huge fan of Jim Thome. We Bartonville folks gotta stick together. Bartonville people definitely "stick together", that's for sure.
  18. They may be better than the Cubs. Oh come on. Enough of this crap. You know the 2006 Cubs will be better than 70-75 wins. I believe he said they "may" be, not "will" be...........
  19. Here's what the question should be: If the pitching remains healthy, can the Cubs win the World Series with the current lineup?
  20. I actually like this signing. Ponson has quit drinking and has lost weight. Look for a pretty good year out of him. I was hoping the Cubs would take a flier on him.
  21. I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but Jacque was offered arb by the Twins and this will cost the Cubs their second, third and fourth round picks.
  22. Here's my problem, Northside. Hendry's #1 priority this offseason was Furcal. He lost Furcal, over money which the Cubs had a lot of this offseason, to a team that didn't even have a manager and barely had a GM in place. Did the Dodgers overpay? Yes. But when a player is his #1 priority, he should have ponyed up and signed him if he thought so much of him in the first place. Now, when he lost out on him, did Hendry even so much as sniff at Giles? I have never seen any reports that the Cubs did. Which would have greatly improved one of their problems from last year, OBP. That would have been a big improvement over now. Now he not only signs a average player, at best, he signs him to a three-year deal. And the Cubs still have the OBP problem, as they have added a player who struck out 120 times in 523 AB's and hit .249 in '05. So instead of sacking up and signing the proven Giles, I'm sure we'll be hearing from Hendry how Jones will be just fine. Oh and the line (again) how if the pitching holds up, "we'll win our share of games". And like you said, "the Cubs won't know how to use JJ properly." Sadly, this offseason to date puts the Cubs no closer to a World Series title. I would love to be optimistic, but I honestly can't do it.
  23. I remeber how optimistic I was when Hendry was named the GM and Dusty was named the manager. What a difference a few years can make. At least Hendry addressed the OBP problem. I would have rather him offered the sun and moon to Giles.
