  1. Not sure Stroman has another inning in him. Giving up hard contact there in the 7th.
  2. Hopefully they can have an inning here in the 6th.
  3. NL OF by wOBA 1. Betts 2. Nimmo 3. Happ Happ is the youngest of the three.
  4. Seeing Kilian pitch in the bigs is kind of the whole point for me this season.
  5. Kilian came out for the 5th and gave up a run before getting pulled. 4.0IP 4H 2BB 1ER 6K Also, LHP Brandon Hughes' #'s are ridiculous; they basically always have been. Probably has a place in the ML bullpen.
  6. This has been a theme I've noticed for awhile. The hottest hitters sit so cold guys can "get it going". It's asinine.
  7. So we're at the point that we accept that the 2016 WS champions, playing in a mega-market, need another multi-year tear-down/ rebuild before being able to contend again? Happ is 27 and since the beginning of last August (312 PAs) has a .390 wOBA. We are never going to field a complete team of Wander Franco hyper-phenoms. Figuring it out at 27 should be normalized (and I'm as guilty as anyone of fetishizing prospects). Sign the guy to an extension unless you get a ridiculous offer.
  8. 2 more hits for Rivas. He'll probably sit for a week.
  9. I'm sure Ross will continue the brilliant tradition of HR one day, sit the next. Sometimes the match-up calls for it, but I swear it happens way too often.
  10. This. I’m no puckhead, but Gretzky played in the least popular major sport, for a Canadian team, in the western time zone, well before the surges of the 24 sports programming, the internet and social media. The NHL was forced to change the rules of hockey because Gretzky (mostly) and the rest of the Oilers were so dominant on power plays. Gretzky was probably the greatest/most dominant singular player of any team sport in the history of sports. And I don’t even think it’s close. As far as TB being the greatest champion, Bill Russell disagrees. I've been involved in this conversation a couple of times before and the answer is some cricket player.
  11. I'm beginning to have pretty grandiose ideas about this teams ceiling.
  12. I was reasonably optimistic about this team coming into the season, but I just keep navigating back to the Eastern Conference standings and staring in disbelief.
  13. I'll have Schwarber, as well.
  14. I get the upside for Dominic Smith, I just can't believe the post-World Series champion Cubs are at the point where they would be lucky to add a -0.5 WAR guy five years after the dynasty was supposed to be just getting underway. Too bad they let that one beloved, LH, WS-hero-guy who destroys baseballs just walk because they didn't think he was worth $10 mil. Behaving like a small market team was frustrating in the 00s, it just blows my mind at this point. Edit: But yeah, Dominic Smith at an appropriate cost would be good.
  15. There aren't any names in that 2nd tier that should should keep a Thompson or Steele from a rotation spot, in my opinion. Substantially improving the rotation should be the #1 goal, whether it's 2022 or 2023 they're looking toward. I feel like Zach Davies would head up that tier, so I don't see any improvement at all. If they can't get two from the first tier, I'd much rather see them go big in a deal with Miami or smaller in a deal with the Reds.
  16. I'm trying, but I can't see how Story is the best option if those are the prices. A career 91 wRC+ away from Coors. His defense props him up, resulting in SS Jason Heyward? 6yr/$150? I would be sad. Every time a guy leaves Coor's people worry about his home/road splits. When's the last time those fears were actually validated? I hear you, and if he was putting up Arenado numbers or something, I might be able to look the other way. He really just looks like Heyward with more Ks to me, albeit at a more important position. The QO is attached as well. I'd rather just let Hoerner have it or find a cheaper solution and spend the $150 on the rotation.

  18. This organization sure has had a lot of talent pass through in the last five years.
  19. Those Bulls are my favorite team, any sport, all time. Doubt that will ever change.
  20. Still unabashedly high on Kilian. Hope to see him in the rotation at some point next summer.
  21. Probably the last SS I'd want to sign.
  22. Expanded playoffs might be the death blow for me.
  23. I dont know how these things tend to play out over a career, but Happ's extreme hot and cold issues bother me. I dont think LF would be in the top 5 places that Cubs need to improve next season. But I would be down for moving Happ if it helps net something useful and finding another LFer Not to pick on you because I think a lot of people feel that way, but this is the same thinking that led to undervaluing Schwarber. Happ just turned 27 and has had multiple stretches of major production. Some guys have to go through adjustment periods, not everyone is Tatis or Soto. Shipping these potentially big bats off when they're entering their prime years seems so foolish to me.
  24. Where is Pinango falling in there for you guys? I think I'm quite a bit higher on him than most are. He should spend a good portion of next year at Tennessee and doesn't turn 20 until May. Especially when you consider the lost year in 2020 that seems very impressive. He doesn't K (11.4% at A+) and looks like he'll hit for average (.289 with .321 BABIP). .093 ISO isn't spectacular but any significant improvement next season moves him right near the top in my opinion.
