  1. I can think of a couple of guys he could replace.
  2. Get a major league pitcher in there or this is over.
  3. I know he put together some innings, but at no point did Michael Fulmer give me any confidence. During that streak, he had quite a few games with hard contact right at guys.
  4. I'm starting to develop a morbid fascination with Mancini's plate appearances.
  5. Hey, he saw 5 pitches before striking out. That's an improvement....
  6. I just want to see Mancini have a competitive AB.
  7. Didn't Wisdom just homer off a righty? He's sitting. Amaya sitting, as well, even though he's been catching Kyle.
  8. They didn't hand him the job. He had 99 PAs, Tom. The first handful were against brutal lefties and then he got platooned and things got more and more sporadic from there. I'm guessing the lack of flyballs is precisely because of this adjustment they're making in Iowa. The dude hits the ever-loving hell out of the ball and acquitted himself pretty well at 1b. He is clearly better than Mancini, and has real upside. Not playing him is stupid, full stop.

  10. Mancini looking worse than Hosmer. Meanwhile, Mervis creeping up near 1.000 OPS in Iowa.
  11. Mastrobuoni will have a career game, get a Bote contract and take tons of PAs away from higher ceiling guys. That's the most Cubs thing I could imagine.
  12. It's 2-0 and I have a bad feeling it's going to get worse.
  13. Damn Mancini did not look good in that PA. Swung and missed at ball one, fouled off a 4-seam strike, then missed badly on a mediocre breaking ball that ended in the middle of the zone.
  14. I just don't see it. Where on earth do the Cubs find real, 30+ HR power if all the traditional power slots are occupied by "line-drive" guys. Every time we find a long-term solution that is decent OBP/Low SLG, we lower the ceiling on how good this team can be. We have a ton of those guys already. I can see Kirillof having some value, but less to the Cubs than just about anyone.
  15. Oh, I absolutely agree. I really do appreciate Tom's sometimes fervent support of what some might consider roster flotsam.
  16. Why have I heard the booth talk multiple times about how Leiter, Jr. has been clearly the Cubs best reliever? I've heard this conversation at least 3 times. Alzolay's numbers are better, excepting K-rate. At least concede that it is close. I haven't even heard Adbert's name come up in these conversations.
  17. I think Caissie is the only potential lineup anchor/superstar bat. He has to make the next adjustment but he has tons of time and he could make it at any moment. When/if he does, he's pretty much ready. PCA I'm guessing ends up a Dansby-type with his defense doing the heavy lifting on his high WAR. Great guys to have hitting sixth and seventh on a perennial contender. Brown will have success in MLB, but how much and in what role seems uncertain. Would love to see any and all upper-level, potential SLG guys get a major league shot in the 2nd half.
  18. That list is kind of nuts. I certainly did not expect Miles Mastrobuoni to have a higher FV than Matt Mervis.
  19. One silver lining is that selling doesn't necessarily have to mean tanking with this division. There is some immediate upside in giving Mervis, Velazquez, Ben Brown, Wicks, etc playing time.
  20. The 81 wRC+ is less than inspiring, even forgetting 1/2 the games are @ Coors.
