  1. Because Beckett has a lot more trade value and Lowell's contract is horrible. True, but I'm saying that there are other possibilities.
  2. So, again, what does it take to get him? Depends on what the other bidders are offering, but I would offer Hill and Cedeno to start. Furcal+Neifi means Cedeno will not get a fair chance with the Cubs until 2008 at the earliest. I'd rather sell him while his value is high. I would also trade Hill+Pie for Beckett, but I'd much prefer moving Cedeno before Pie. I think it would take Williams and Pie to start. IF they offered Castillo, I would also give them Walker and one other P. Any deal for Beckett is going to have Lowell attached to it. Okay, so you deal for Beckett and Lowell, and give up Williams, Moore and Hill. Then you can spin Lowell and Nolasco to TEX for Mench? If taking Lowell is the only way to get Beckett, then it would give me a little pause. It will be hard to move Lowell. But why couldn't Florida attach Lowell to Pierre or Castillo?

  5. Im not worried about not scoring in the 2nd half. As soon as they got up 13-0 they started playing conservative which is completely understandable the way the Bears D played. No since taking any chances of a mistake. Both Lines played awesome especially the DLine...... However Peanut Tillman is still way overrated. He is sooooo frustrating at times. I do not like playing conservatively. It's not like Orton was playing badly. You cannot play not-to-lose. The defense played nearly a perfect game today. You need to trust the offense, especially when they are in a good position. Of course, if Moose doesn't drop 2 passes, the score looks a lot different.
  6. If Wood's on the 60-day DL I don't think he counts against the 40-man. There is no 60 day DL during the offseason. He counts. So then is Scott Moore actually on there? Or is he not? Under cubs.com transactions it says the Cubs purchased the contract of Scott Moore and added him to the 40-man roster so I assume he's on there and it's just a typo. Then the roster is at 41. That makes no sense.
  7. I'm still not happy at the total lack of aggressiveness that Lovie Smith has when it comes to the offense. They had 3rd and 11 at the 33, your defense is dominating-let Orton, who made 1 bad throw all game, take a shot downfield. But the defense was sick today. That was a total beatdown.

  9. It would probably cost Williams at the least. I'm not crazy about what Rowand brings to the table. I'd look at many other options before Rowand.
  10. Does he have a big family? :P Seriously, though, chasing after Beckett has merit. I'd see what a Beckett/Castillo package would cost. Certainly it would likely start at Pie and Pinto. Maybe Williams as well. Would Walker/Williams/Pie and Pinto get it done?
  11. Not trying to hijack the thread, but at his new contract there are far fewer team that would want him. He's ours for a couple of years now.
  12. Do you really think the White Sox would trade him to us?
  13. Sheff only has one year left on his deal, so the risk isn't as great as it is with Giles. He's going to want an extension to shut him up. Just pick up Gary's 2007 option, and call it a day. Despite his age, I see nothing in his numbers to indicate that he can't be productive for 2 more seasons. Wood and Maddux will hopefully be off the payroll in 2007 anyway. Who would you give up for him?
  14. Sheff only has one year left on his deal, so the risk isn't as great as it is with Giles. He's going to want an extension to shut him up. That's just speculation at this point. Wasn't that what he said around June when the first rumors came out?
  15. Wouldn't Florida get more value by dealing Pierre, Beckett and Castillo in seperate deals?
  16. He has about as good of control as Randy Johnson had at that stage of his career. I think the Cubs see value in him because they believe, for one reason or another, that at some point, he's going to figure it out like Johnson did, and could eventually be groomed into a pretty darned good closer. The only problem with that line of thinking is that the Cubs have had little success in coaching command of pitches. How many young bullpen guys have come up with good stuff but poor location? How many of them have actually developed into reliable pen guys?
  17. If the Fresno State coach calls a different play than a post into double coverage, they might have had a chance to tie at the end. That was a fantastic game.
  18. I think it's a little amusing. But hey, how'd the XFL work?
  19. No, it's missing Scott Moore Okay, thanks. Moore should also be trade bait this winter.
  20. Cubs.com has the 40 man at 40 guys, with Wood on it, now. Is that correct?
  21. I don't know. I've always been a fan of Brownlie's, since he pitches with his head. I actually think hes a pitcher that would benifit from some time watching Maddux. Also, I don't really think injury concerns are going to scare teams off of Brownlie any more than attitude issues scared teams from Sisco, or injuries initally scared Florida off of Luke Hagerty (I think that was who it was). And II, I really, really don't care if we lose Aardsma. I value the extra 40 man spot more than I value an erratic fireballer.

  23. Isn't it possible Hendry has had interest from other teams for one of those 4 catchers & if one is traded he would like to have 3 on his 40 man roster? Isn't Reyes fairly young & has the potential to be a ML catcher? What kind of year did Brownlie have & what type of ceiling do we expect from him? Brownlie had an okay year out of the pen, but lost velocity on his fastball that he previously had in college. I think he would have made sense to protect over Aardsma. Brownlie may not have the big fastball anymore, but he can still get guys out by pitching intelligently. Aardsma really can't do either, but he can throw hard. There is less chance that Brownlie gets selected in Rule 5 and sticks on a 25 man roster all year than there is that if Aardsma was removed from the Cubs 40 man roster that he would have been picked up by another team and added to their 40 man. I don't know about that. I think that teams like Texas, Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Pittsburgh could use an arm out of the pen like Brownlie's. Also, if Aardsma got picked up in rule 5 I couldn't care less. Williams was the key to that deal, Aardsma doesn't look like much of a pitcher. Velocity means nothing if you can't control and locate your pitches.
  24. Ugh. Please don't, Aramis.
  25. I did it four years ago and it feels really good. I know there's somebody ready to take my place, but it makes me feel a little better. I don't know why but the whole "Wrigley" experience doesn't mean a lot to me anymore. A World Series title is more important to me and I won't go back until I feel the effort is being made toward that goal. It is still nice to go there. I like the experience, but I'd trade the Wrigley experience for a title in an instant.
