    Cabrera was going to cost more than we could have given BEFORE Lee went down. What makes you think thhat now that Lee is hurt, his cost would be equal? Also, Cabrera can't play 1B. He's a 3B. His proposal is too light, but Cabrera plays 3B, Ramirez 1B, then Cabrera moves to RF. When has Ramirez ever played 1B? It's not like he's a utility guy or something.

    I would target Meinkeyechart from KC, and/or Tony Clark from AZ. The cost to get either shouldn't be awful.

    Can we use 2005's numbers? :P Seriously, though, I think the economic health of MLS is in much better shape than that of the NHL right now. MLS just got a sweet TV deal, attendance is up and nearly every team is getting or has their own stadium now. I think you are confusing the NHL with the Blackhawks. The NHL is doing great, with several very healthy franchises. The Hawks have been run into the ground by a bunch of traditionalist monkeys. The Fire might be bigger than the Hawks, but all it would take is one successful Blackhawks season to change all that. A Fire championship isn't going to grow them all that much. If both teams won their respective championship's next year, it wouldn't be close. The Hawks are a part of the fourth major pro sports league, they just aren't participating in an acceptable manner. I think that, despite success in a few markets the NHL has a real problem long term.

    MLS is a league on the upswing. WNBA and the AFL will never have the potential for growth like the MLS has.

    -instant replay for disputed home runs -playoff games have to be played without days off in between. -rocket's idea about coaches and their uniforms -home field in the ws goes to the team with the best reg season record -wbc played every 4 years in november -salary cap and floor based on 3 year averages (which would allow teams to rebuild with youth)

Granted, the Blackhawks probably struggled to get 500,000 in this era, but it still blows away the Fire. It's a little rough to punish the numbers based on the fact that it's a 30 game season. The league is still growing, so as more teams come into MLS I'm sure the table will grow. Right, they're still growing. But they aren't major. Despite the fact they outdraw the supposed 4th major sport, and have a national TV deal?

    I didn't either, really. I figured they'd draw about 12. Their new stadium in Bridgeport is going to be a hit, methinks.

The Chicago Fire won 2 titles in the early part of the decade.... Soccer just missed the four major sports cutoff....it was REAL close though... :D The Fire probably consistently outdraw the Blackhawks. I'd argue that they are the 4th major sports team in the city... I'd argue there are only 3 major sports in the city... 8) See my edit. The Fire draw over 15K on average, and more than 17k the last 2 seasons. That's major, IMO.

The Chicago Fire won 2 titles in the early part of the decade.... Wasn't Reinsdorf the goalie on both of those teams? He was the backup keeper, but luckily Zach Thorton stayed healthy.

I wouldn't really say that Aramis started badly last year, though. His OPS was over .800 in mid-April, and still over .800 after April. That's pretty good, actually. He didn't say Aramis started badly, he said he started slow. Aramis had an OPS over 1.000 after the first week, and an OPS over .800 after April. That's not really "slow", in my opinion. Certainly not comparable to this year, is it? Between the first week and last week, he struggled in a similar fashion as he is thus far this season.

Lets hope he heats up fast especially if Lee misses an extended amount of time. He'll have to. In an unrelated note, my bet from the offseason about Jones' offensive numbers throughout the season looks good thus far! :D

    About the only thing that works out is that if Lee is out for any length of time, it's during April and May and not in June or July when our schedule is a lot tougher. I actually think that whoever bats 4th is going to be a very big key. Ramirez has to step up, but will he see anything good to hit without someone decent behind him in the order?
