  1. Walker has retired. He had a press conference after the game announcing it.
  2. I was wondering how different the Cardinals will be in 2006. Based upon my posting about Ray King wanting out of St. Louis, (http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=25950) it got me thinking of the Cards looking very different when they open their new park. Ray King: gone. Unhappy and complaining. Tony doesn't like boat rockers so hell be shipped out of town. Julian Taverez: gone. Too goofy for the business like Cards and a free agent I think Matt Morris: gone. Free agent so someone will overpay for him. Larry Walker: retired. Reggie Sanders: free agent. Mark Grudzielanek: free agent. Cards fans: who else will be gone?
  3. My first guess when seeing the headline was that Ray King couldn't find enough dining options and wanted to go to a city with better restaurants. But actually he just wants out because he wasn't used in the post season:
  4. But it's not like the Crawford boxes are only there when the Astros are up. The visiting team can also take advantage of the short porch there. Mel Ott hit most of his home runs over a wall that was 275 feet away. Should we take him out of the hall because he probably got a few "cheapies" in his career? It works both ways. I know it works both ways, I just think it's a stupid layout. Even when the Cubs hit a home run into those boxes, even if it's a game winner, I think it's a cheap shot. That damn hill is just dorky as all heck. Why not just put a clown face (with holes cut out in the eyes, nose and mouth) and a windmill in the outfield?
  5. Andy got to celebrate his pennant after Game 4, and after Berkman's home run last night. I don't feel sorry for any of them. Did you see the Cardinals' reaction after the game last night? No celebrating. They simply shook hands and headed for the clubhouse. They know that they still have work to do, unlike the Astros after Game 4. That's why the Cards are the best team in baseball. Apparently there were some Astros dancing in the dugout during the top of the 9th. Larry Walker threw a sidways blast at the Astros for prematurely celebrating in a post game interview. Like the cliche goes: act like you've been there before.
  6. There's no good reason for a modern ballpark to have the setup that Minute Maid has; especially since it's a baseball only stadium. That short left field is a complete joke. Being quirky for the sake of quirkiness is totally fake. It's like the kid trying too hard to be cool: it doesn't work. They need to take those seats out. BTW: props to Albert, Edmunds and Grudz. Way to "man up".
  7. Sanders just hit a double with bases loaded. Cardinals are up 5-0. Woody Williams has been pulled with 50+ pitches in 1 2/3 innings.
  8. I just got home and turned on the game. Chris Berman doing play by play?!?!?! My dear God, this is going to be torture.
  9. espn.com is reporting that Peavy is out the rest of the post season with broken ribs. They're not sure how he did it. The Padres are toast.
  10. Carpenter went out in the top of the 7th and then pulled with something wrong. 91 pitches. No word as to the reason.
  11. Reggie Sanders grand slam. Peavy has been pulled. Cards up 8-0. Game is on XM channel 183.
  12. Apparently things are going so well that they will use a wrecking ball. From the St. Louis Business Journal: I wish IDOT had this luck with their construction jobs. Ahead of schedule? On budget? Wow, what a concept.
  13. Is it just me or does Brad Thompson look like Chester the Molester in this picture? http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_433581.jpg
  14. Cards just lost 5-3 againts the Bucs. That means they're guaranteed to clinch here this weekend. [sarcasm on] Looking forward to all the smug Cards fan coming to town. [sarcasm off] Disgusted to see the mile long page on stubhub.com for available tickets.
  15. AKA faux-wrigleyville. It would have been sweet if they built the new stadium in Soulard. But then downtown might really die. Not to mention no great highway of metrolink access. Still, would have been cool. Soulard would not be a bad thought. It's about the only thing good about St. Louis. Then again downtown St. Louis is already dead IMHO.
  16. Who cares about the bathrooms? Are you going to NOT go to a baseball game because the area that you take a whiz doesn't have a butler in it? People don't go to baseball games to take in the asthetic (I know that's spelled wrong) beauty of the crapper. I hate it when people badmouth Wrigley by saying their bathrooms are nasty. WHO CARES! EDIT: In other words... what Vance and DJAXXFAN said. I don't think it's any more or less of an issue than cigarette butts on the sidewalk outside of Busch Stadium. I wish he would've mentioned that there are way too many mullets at Busch Stadium.[/quote] Rumor has it that in an effort to keep the new Busch Stadium clean, Cardinal management will be enforcing a "no mullet policy." This should open up plenty of room for Cardinal fans currently on the season ticket list waiting list. :D That and the increased cost of going to the park will keep the rednecks away. Supposedly Cardinals management has said that they're not raising ticket prices significantly in the new park. The deception occurs in the fact that there will be a lot fewer cheaper seats available and a significant number of seats will be in the higher price ranges. So yes, upper deck seats with still be around $15, but now instead of 15,000 seats in that price range: there will be only 5,000 seats.
  17. True. I love Wrigley but darn is the place run down. Plus I've learned my lesson to always wear my worst pair of shoes to a Cubs game. It could be a late April day game againts the Padres with 12,000 people in the park and there still would be a half inch of "water" on the floor in the mens room. If you're going to call me a princess for that, then fine, I'm a princess.
  18. 4 pages for a game thread? Damn, people are giving up.
  19. BTW: Letterman officially made the switch to high def last night. So now all three of the major shows (Leno, Conan, Letterman) are HD. Saturday Night Live will also be in High Def for the 2005-2006 season.
  20. *sigh* Marquis replaces Mulder and pitches on three days rest. Throws a complete game 2 hitter. How the f___ do they do it?
  21. Stuck at work, forgot XM radio in car, just got out of meeting. So you guys are telling me ARam went down? I wish we had a puke emoticon.
  22. That's friggin' weird. Wasn't one of the "Killer B's" that way? Great for night games and fair to poor on day games... You know the moment the playoff schedule comes out LaRussa will shift the pitching rotation so that Mulder has night starts. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, there's probably a maximum of 2 day games in a series. Neither Biggio or Bagwell have pronounced Day/Night splits, I can't find them for Derek Bell. Not this season; maybe a year or two ago. I dunno, I could be smoking crack too. Oh, I was looking at their career numbers. Doing a quick search Biggio has a career .243 daytime average and .346 nighttime average. There's nothing on MLB.com where you can break splits out year by year. But I swear a season or two ago he was hitting in the .150 to .180 range for day games. One of the guys in my roto league had Biggio and benched him any weeks the Astros had 3+ day games.
