  1. It's no doubt Boston needs a catcher on the news that Tek has a torn meniscus in his knee and will need surgery. That's usually a 6 week limitation to starting physical activity. Blanco is a nice idea given need for a good signal caller and defender. ? I heard it was just a cartilage tear. About the same thing..the meniscus is made up of cartilage. thought it was a tendon. It's cartilage. I should know, I pretend to be a doctor sometimes.
  2. I know how to play. Doesn't mean I'm good enough to bat 2nd.
  3. I'm fine with Byrnes if a couple of bats are added. He looks like a crackhead the way he's always fidgeting around though. Stand still, dude.
  4. This has to be the funniest thread ever.
  5. My preferred option (which has been campaigned for here by vance and others) would be to stick Jones in CF and get a bat in RF, where they are much easier to come by. And if your question was regarding a leadoff hitter, we don't need the little quick guy who might steal bases. We just need someone who's really good at getting on base.
  6. Why is this concept so hard for some to understand?
  7. I watched Italy play in the WBC. They've got a long way to go.
  8. Please notice that I didn't predict that he would end up like Ozzie or Omar, it's just that they wouldn't have ended up that successful if everyone gave up on them with their pitiful offensive numbers at 26 years of age. I don't see the Cubs as World Series champs in 2007, so I say give him the rest of this year and all of next and then reassess the situation. I understand that you didn't predict he would. I am choosing to remain grounded and not expect too much improvement from what we have.
  9. I'm going to pretend 2 people haven't voted for Metallica. Oh yeah, I hate Lars.
  10. He signed an extension in March. 2 years/$11M (2007-08)
  11. His contract isn't quite that bad from the Sox perspective. He was due $24M for this season and next. The Yankees picked up $9M and the D-Backs another $5M. He's still an expensive reliever, but only at $5M per year.
  12. How many hundreds of kids have tried to play SS in the majors in the past 20 years? How many of those kids turned out like Ozzie or Omar? I'll play the odds.
  13. Yet the naysayers are acting like Hendry had a list of people to choose from for Maddux. It's not like he said no to all these great players...he took what he could and that's that. Frankly, I'm just glad we got rid of Maddux....he's not good and he's using a valuable spot in the rotation we should be using to audition Hill, Marmol, etc. I'll take Izturis over a couple of nice prospects in AA. So the people who realize Izturis is not good are now naysayers? We all know the market was not there for Maddux. Had Hendry dealt him for a couple of nice AA prospects, this isn't as bad. Minor leaguers are still unknowns. Izturis has been in the bigs long enough to demonstrate that he is very below average overall. What he lacks at the plate is not made up for in the field. Period. Hendry once again tried to plug a hole that wasn't there. The problem with this team was not, and still isn't, defense. The 2 biggest problems are lack of pitching and having no offense. Izturis can't pitch, and he certainly cannot hit.
  14. I skipped a few pages, so pardon me if this was pointed out somewhere. Izturis is horrible offensively. DEFENSE WAS NOT THIS TEAM'S PROBLEM.
  15. You didn't ask about what's feasible, you asked what I wanted. And no, you don't have to have guys like Mientkiewicz in your lineup. I am a firm believer in offense first, offense last. Defense is an afterthought. And if the season ended today, the team with the best offense in the major leagues will not make the playoffs. What's the point? Are you trolling for an argument? Your question was what stats I want in which part of the lineup, not in regards to starting pitching, relievers, bench players, in-game strategies, etc. If you don't like the answer, be more specific next time.
  16. Murphy was also hammering on the fact that Hendry once called Furcal's contract "absurd" then last night called him a great player. "How can he be absurd and then great?" Hey, Murph. He thinks the contract was absurd. He likes the player.
  17. "We suck. End of Message"
  18. Williamson's departure left them at 39. I'd like to see Fontenot given a shot, but the commitment to Izturis/Perez/Cedeno seems to be leaving him and Theriot on the outside looking in. Who are we in danger of losing in the next Rule 5?
  19. Perhaps Cedeno is still working on his switch to 2nd base? Taking grounders or what ever. I'm trying here guys... Pretty inexcusable. That's easily the worst offensive middle IF in baseball. And also easily the best defensive MI in baseball!! Great, so instead of losing 15-4 we'll lose 9-4. Are you saying defense accounts for 6 runs a game?
