  1. The official moves: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions
  2. Obvious exceptions see; Kolb, Dan. Alfonseca pitched well for the Braves, for a while, but they let him leave not wanting to press their luck...
  3. I would be suprised if he ever makes it back to the big leagues. He's easily fooled by off-speed stuff. if he never makes it back, it's because major league gm's are stupid. minor league numbers matter, even if his first couple hundred major league at bats havent gone as well as one would hope. Bring up Bull Durham. Crash Davis? Or Nuke? Crash Davis. Been a while since I've seen the movie. :) Hasn't Trenidad Hubbard (sp) had a great minor league career?? Where's Roosevelt Brown nowadays??? Hubbard was released July 7th, when Corey was sent down. I'm not sure what happened with Brown. http://www.iowacubs.com/aspx/transactions.aspx
  4. Uh....WTF? :x He lied to Congress, to baseball fans everywhere that took him at his word, he sullied MLB, he played everyone for the fool, and you're "disappointed for him"?!?!!? Yeah, he put in hard work, but with the edge of steroids Dusty. Although I suppose you've already prepared your statement for Bonds... I'm not sure that I disagree with Dusty here. Pamlerio disgraced himself (and his family). Oddly, MLB comes off looking good because outing Palmerio proves that they are able to police themselves as it relates to steroid abuse (it says nothing for HGH usage throughout the league). I think this is Dusty's way of saying Pamlerio ruined his reputation without actually coming out and saying it directly. However, when Dusty says he's "surprised" I think that speaks volumes about Palmerio's ability to lie (and look believeable).
  5. D'backs now lead 6-2 in the 4th. Go Arizona! In other news, the Marlins beat STL. 4-3 and the Nats creamed LA 7-0
  6. I dont have an aswer to your question but I am curious why you posted this in Transactions? Are you suggesting that we trade Derrek? LOL J/K :D Speaking of transactions, its weird that DLee is the ONLY true first baseman on the clubs' 40 man roster. No wonder he's overworked.
  7. Do you really believe this? that a player's most recent 150 at bats are more important than everything else he's ever done put together? Remlinger is a bad example because he's 47 years old and obviously not any good. Hollandsworth may have had better days behind him, but Macias is 33 himself. The example I used of Remlinger was purposely exaggerated. I think he should go... Macias is a career role player with more value than Hollandsworth for all the reasons I've already mentioned (the ability to play multiple positions and switch hit). On the other hand, Hollandsworth is a reserve who mistakenly feels he can start everyday (yet outside of his rookie year he has shown little ability to do so consistently). I will conceed that Todd was misused this year (even though I'm sure he relished having the opportunity to start). However, now that we have Matt Lawton's left handed bat there is no reason to keep Hollandsworth (and Macias). For what it's worth, Hollandsworth is only a year younger than Macias. Also, why would any GM exchange a jack-of-all-trades type of guy like Macias for a one dimensional bench player like Mike Fontenot? Finally, every team needs a Macias type guy. Getting rid of Macias weakens the bench and by extension the team. If the argument against keeping Macias has something to do with getting more ABs for Cedeno and Murton the logic is flawed. The rookies are not role players they are, arguably, future starters who will either wait their turn on the bench or be optioned to play everyday in the Minors.
  8. To say nothing of his phylum. Haha, hilarious. I never claimed to be a good typer. Of course, that should read *exemplify* and most importantly *genius*
  9. What's really interesting is Hendry was able to trade those marginal major leaguers for quality ML bats. Brendan Harris was packaged in the Nomar Deal Jason Dubois landed Lawton Bobby Hill brought Aramis Hee Seop Choi gave us Derrek Lee These moves exemplify the genius of Jim Hendry. Edit: The spelling was fixed
  10. Wait, you want Macias to be designated? I understand he's a popular target but I dont think you're looking at this realistically. Macias is a switch hitter, he's hitting .296, and he can play multiple positions (All outfield spots, 3rd, SS, and second). I say he's a decent man off the bench. Conversely, Hollandsworth has been a major disappointment, with the exception of a couple of weeks in June, and can only play LF. If anyone is going to be D'FA it should be Hollandsworth (especially with the Lawton on the team). My guess is that neither will be designated but Todd has largely been a non factor. 287 avg is nice, but a 303 obp is a 303 obp. Macias' average is .296 as of today (2 for 4 in the game) For the record, Macias' OBP is a mesely .311 which is still better than Holly (.302). Holla's only been marginally better than Macias this year, yes. But if you look at career numbers, there's no way you decide to cut him instead of Macias. Career numbers mean nothing. In sports, the prevailing question is "what have you done for me lately?" Using that same logic, I can make a strong argument for why Mike Remlinger should remain on the team. Afterall, he's a former All-Star left handed reliever with a plethora of experience; including divisional races and the playoffs. Yet, he probably has one foot out the door already... The Cubs would not miss Hollandsworth but they would miss Macias (mostly because he can play a variety of positions on a team that is largely overworked and injuried on the corners) Being a switch hitter also helps his cause.

  13. Because Corey is a superior defensive player and a power threat who's making 2.5 million (?). The team will want to get some production from him.
  14. To Buffalo of the International League (AAA). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions
  15. But you can consider Rothschild as good as gone at the end of the year. Gotta have a scapegoat and it ain't gonna be one of Baker's boys (Pole, Matthews, Clines, Speier). Speier is one of Hendry's picks..not Dustys. I agree that Baker probably won't lose his job this year but, if Hendry has given Baker the guys he has wanted and Baker/Cubs struggles for the rest of 2005, it may be possible it is his last year....slight as it is but possible if it went that way. I'd be surprised if Baker didn't finish out his contract. Hopefully no more 4 year contracts to bad managers after that. I'd really like to see an up and comer, not a known commidity manage this team. I would like to see someone like a Ned Yost. I like Yost too but he may not be a good fit on a team that is primarily made of veterans. Just like a good college coach doesnt work in the NBA...
  16.          100 million payroll. That's so cheap. It's an 87 million dollar payroll. Calling it a 100 million payroll is another copout by the Trib. Nope. Paying off contracts of underachieving players is part of the cost of doing business. Some contracts work out swell, some don't. The dollar cost is the same. When players overachieve relative to their salaries nobody adds imaginary dollars to payroll quotes. Which is a load of crap because the Trib could afford to sign Alou or Beltran even while paying Sosa but they were too cheap to do it. Beltran? I was happy we didnt get into that spend-a-thon during the offseason and I am even more happy today. that would have been a terrible waste of money. I do agree that they needed a FT LF'er to start the year.
  17. I'm curious on how Hendry really feels about Baker...I mean really feels, not the company line. Hendry likes Dusty but for the record, so does MacPhail. Both have given Dusty public words of support. I dont think Jim is following a company line. He's the GM, as such, he has the autonomy to hire and fire the manager. That being said, I wouldnt be surprised if they let Dusty complete his contract and look elsewhere.
  18. Dusty Baker's not getting fired this late in the season, that would be essentially conceeding defeat (and please dont use the O's as an example because they were in first then fell off the map. A totally different situation). I think the primary reason Dusty wont get fired has to do with Hendry's knowledge of how the team started the year (with holes). It's not entirely Dusty's fault that we have a young and inexperienced bullpen, players aren't getting clutch hits, and that a bat (Nomar's) that we expected to be a very important in the lineup has been MIA. Dusty can be blamed for some strategic errors but I feel the personnel problems outweigh his strategy or lack thereof.
  19. Maybe if we drop into 4th like the Orioles, the management will get a clue and fire the manager. Never gonna happen. The Trib's too damn cheap to eat a contract. The best we can hope for is that Baker gets busted with a trunk load of weed and tossed in jail. LMAO
  20. In other news, MIL just took the lead over the Mets 10-9 in the top of the 9th Edit; make that 12-9
  21. Our starter gave up 6 runs and left in the 5th. The Bullpen blanked them so it wasn't all bad.
  22. At least he's better than Alfonseca. Yes, I can't believe that's the only positive I can think of right now. Alf is pitching decently this year. At least he was last week when I saw him...
  23. Novoa with the scoreless inning Lets get to Wagner
