  1. Did anyone tell Chuck he's up?
  2. Did you look up Smyly before posting that? You might be surprised at what he's done. I don't know why the Tigers used him like they did, but he's probably going to be a stud in Tampa (assuming the shoulder issue isn't major). 220 ERA+ in 7 starts last season
  3. That's a crap load of 3B for a team starting Mike Olt.
  4. I'm about 148 months older than Rizzo. How many millions is that worth?
  5. this already assumes a player wasn't promising enough to be selected in 10 full rounds of drafting the bolded happens all the time with non-IFAs, with the Matt Szczur / Michael Taylor / Kendall Gravemans of the world It happens with guys who have been in the minors for years, yes. I don't think most the league follows IFAs all that closely until they're signed. So it's not nearly the same thing, imo. You don't have to agree, but I think IFAs are different and should be treated differently than late bloomers that have come up through the minors, just like we treat IFAs that are drafted in the MLB draft differently.
  6. Pretty sure we had this come up in the last couple of years. The response was basically "we're not going to have an active player not available to any team for a year" so the player was shoehorned, I think into the prospect draft. Wish I could remember who it was. I agree with your post, and we could undo Olivera if we give Brian his 2nd option before someone else drafts that player. Wouldn't Olivera fit into his second category and therefore be in the MiLB draft? yeah you guys are right. I didn't double check the timing of his signing.
  7. Tim gave me the keys. So now I can undo all the horrible things adam did.
  8. I'd guess there should be a "- available without restrictions through waivers if undrafted" after each of the first two I don't think an IFA that's a major leaguer should be stashed in the minors. No reason to let someone grab an IFA and put them in the minors for 200 ABs just to see how good they turn out to be. If you want to do that, and are willing to give up one of your 3 bench spots, then fine. That's my take.

  10. Done. I hereby cede these decisions to your infinite wisdom. Adam's ears must have been burning. He should stay commish if he wants it. no coup intended.
  11. sure give me the reins. i'm online almost every day and this is my 4th year so that makes me an old timer.
  12. You're allowed 2 RPs. We have never let a SPs points in relief count.
  13. I don't disagree. I think both should be major leaguers, but Olivera wasn't signed in time. This is why it's great to have a determination of what IFAs are in what draft before the season starts. League came together a bit later this year though so whatever.
  14. there is no earthly reason Kang should be in the minor league draft Ryu was in MLB draft and their situations are 100% analogous He's the same age as Olivera, right? Are you worried about being able to stash Kang in the minors for 2 months? Well, Ryu was subjected to the same rule as other IFA's that were deemed major leaguers. I couldn't put him in the minors that first year. So if Kang is identical, you have to keep him in the majors.
  15. can we start instituting the 24 hours rule? no pick in 24 hours pick is skipped? Dylan is waiting for a ruling on brians pick. Not his fault
  16. Is an extra year of control worth what would surely have been an epic tree thread about Kris rising up to be our savior today? I don't know. I just don't know.
  17. mowing the lawn, packing up to move to a hotel for 2 weeks while our house is fixed after a leak, and watching the cubs from a residence inn. suck on that
  18. If Olivera in prospect eligible, then Kang would be as well. I guess I don't have strong feelings either way. But if we're going to treat them like major leaguers, then they should have the same rules as other major league IFAs, which means you have to keep them in the majors unless they get put into the minors. Drafting or picking a 28-year-old IFA and putting him in the minors seems like a silly place to end up as a rule. So they're either both eligible for this draft or both are major leaguers, and can be signed by anyone, but can't be stashed in the minors. Those are the options I'd suggest.
  19. yea, he's on it. Can he be on it faster? Sure, should I suggest he leave his family or just quit his job? I'm not sure taking five minutes to research a couple top prospect lists would require either step. but if it does, then that's the price we pay
  20. If you put 8 random names and numbers up on those things, would anyone know the difference? In fact, are we sure that those are players and not the names of all the people that bought season tickets?
  21. mods need to do their jobs and merge it to random musings STAY ON TOPIC [expletive]
  22. what a weird thread
