  1. Brian is. Juan is up and might be overdue by now.
  2. Is Brian done picking? Sneaky made his pick at 11:45pm on Friday night. No sneaky made dylan's pick
  3. FJM was funny. It's the same here. When people mocked each other here, it used to be funny. I still like things that are funny. And I still think things that are funny but mean are funny. People should concentrate on trying to be more funny.
  4. yes, very true isn't that representative of the internet as a whole? Man, yesterday did weird things to people. No, I seriously doubt the whole of "the internet" is less funny now. This is actually a good example. There's less thought involved in comments. No nuance. My point is things are less often mean, but funny, and instead more often not only mean, but cruel. The twitter crusades against certain people, for example. The comments on twitter and instagram, esp to female celebrities. Gamergate. Sites like deadspin used to be popular mostly bc they were funny. FJM was similar. Some of it was mean, but if they had just ripped joe Morgan and these idiot writers without humor, it wouldn't have had the following it did. It seems like more sites can be wildly popular just by being mean. I'm not suggesting this is a new thing. But that's the trend I'm seeing. Maybe funny is being drowned out by the popularity of stuff that is just mean for the sake of being mean.
  5. Your trade goes here, sneaky
  6. yes, very true isn't that representative of the internet as a whole?
  7. tim - you should trade bryant now while he still has hype. Looked BAAAAAAD in that first AB. Gonna go 0/12 with 12 Ks and you're gonna wish you sold high. how about a consistent, established major league player like Angel Pagan? That's the road to the title that's eluded you these past couple seasons.
  8. damnit season's over
  9. That's what makes the hate so strong. If they make Bryant share the retirement with Grace like they did with Jenkins/Maddux, I'm going to be really annoyed. I was definitely a fan back then. .400 OBP FFS. who cared about obp in the 1990s?!? lots of people this here is what we call a "joke"
  10. same. i still have an autographed ball made out "TO JOHNNY" and you can bet i will be keeping it forever, as much as i may dislike the guy now. While I was getting Grace's autograph at a restaurant during spring training 20-something years ago, he was hitting on my 16 year old sister.
  11. Nope, but I'll take Raisel Iglesias, P, Reds. Did you pm Chuck? chuck only responds to text messages, mr commish. then he's at risk for having his pick skipped. i sent him a message through RK yesterday. tree can pick if its been 24 hours
  12. Oh I'm sorry Scott, do we get another year before FA? Huh. Tough [expletive] I guess
  13. Nope, but I'll take Raisel Iglesias, P, Reds. Did you pm Chuck?

  15. They could award him the missing service time, effectively making him a free-agent a year earlier. And the flip side is, there's very little downside to waiting two more days and then being able to say, "well if we were holding him down only for service time reasons, why wouldn't we have brought him up two days ago?" But what's the magic number? If the CBA says Day X, and you think bringing him up on Day X risks a crazy arbitration ruling, how long do you have to wait? Is Day X+1 enough time? "If this were only service time related, we would have brought him up yesterday!" If crazy arbitrator isn't buying that on Day X, he's not buying it on Day X+1 either. So is it 2 days? A week? A month? How long do you have to wait before you're certain that bringing him up isn't going to cost you a year of control? It seems like the kind of thing you'd want some clarity on. It's so important, I'd expect the owners and MLBPA might actually want a mutually acceptable time. In fact, they might include it in the CBA! Novel idea. I hope they do that.
  16. I can't believe the Cubs are making decisions based on the off chance that they would get a moron arbitrator. You don't make decisions b/c you have a 0.001% chance of losing the lottery in decision makers.
  17. anyway i'm out. go back to hating whatever. hope theo brings bryant up and he hits 4 HRs in his first game and one of them smashes boras in the nuts.
  18. again - stop being dramatic. try just a little. no one says you have to love baez. also, love that this is "euphoric" for this board. pretty much brings home my point about loving being miserable about something.
  19. If a player has even 1 appearance in MLB, on the mound or at the plate, then he is eligible to be drafted in the MLB draft and eligible to be signed as a FA. If that player is currently in the minors or has never previously exceeded the minor league cap, then you can immediately put them in your minors. Exception is for players who were drafted in the immediately prior year's June draft. So if someone was drafted in June 2014 and made it to the majors last year, you have to draft them in the prospect draft or add them after the prospect draft, if no one picks them.
  20. i feel a lot better now. thanks.
  21. really sucks that this [expletive] will make me enjoy it less if/when the cubs are actually good. OH NO SIR YOU DONT GET TO SAVOR THIS WORLD SERIES BECAUSE YOU DIDNT LOOOOOOOVE ALL THOSE LAST PLACE FINISHES LIKE A REAL FAN has nothing to do with enjoying where the team finished. theo had a plan and he's executed it pretty [expletive] perfectly, if you ask me. would it have been cool to be competitive before now? yes. but I'm not sure that was an option, and I'm 100% certain that theo has more insight into how feasible that was than i do. i think kyle has worn off on the board as a whole. y'all just love being miserable about something. this team will likely at least be in contention for the playoffs, though it's probably 1 more year from being really, really good. but it'll be a fun year to watch with some great pitchers, a solid back of the bullpen, and some fantastic young players - who are actually good enough to be in the majors now. and we start 4-2, leading the nlc, and we're going to spend several pages (in the Kris Bryant love thread) burying a 22-year-old middle infielder who just crushes the ball. He's not perfect, he might never make it, of course, but he's 22 with an .880 career minor league ops. there can be some middle ground between fellating a player and burying him. stop being so [expletive] dramatic.
