  1. What's the market for a guy like Soler at this point? He'll be 25 on opening day. The stats are improving, his walk rate is up, his swing percentages are better, and he's hitting more fly balls (and more HRs). But his health is a concern, his defense is a concern, and he still strikes out 1/4 of his PAs (better than 30% last year, but still). For $3M in 2017 and $4M/year after that, any chance he's actually more valuable to the Cubs than whatever pitching they can get for him?
  2. But Travis Wood and Lester are super progressive, right? I don't care about his politics. I mean, I wish he wasn't a conservative, but I don't really care. I care very much about his rhetoric aimed at minorities. I'm now in the horsefeathers jake, thanks for the no hitters, go chill with dbag schillling camp
  3. don't imagine they'll score many goals kicking over the wall
  4. Now that the euphoria has worn off a little, all you 2011-2014 non-believers should come forward and get booted off the island.
  5. that thread just makes me miss danzaslap
  6. the sliding into first dude cannot be forgotten
  7. Didn't he eventually come back as someone else and stick around a while as a non-psycho poster? I thought that was da Bum. I think Bum was back for a bit but TT or someone found him. I'm probably wrong about meph
  8. I'm pretty sure he's had multiple usernames banned. Didn't he eventually come back as someone else and stick around a while as a non-psycho poster?
  9. After the EV call out in Game 5, someone said we'd win the WS with a Ross HR in Game 7 (mockingly). And I said if Ross comes to bat and the game depends on him even getting a hit, then something has not gone according to plan (figured Joe would drop Lester in like the 7th and then have Chapman in the 9th if we were winning). Oops
  10. I don't know how you guys do it, after 1 page of his stupidity, I tried banning him again.
  11. oh my god please ask him. Cubbiebum's name is Levin Black FYI. What? Levin Black? I've heard of that name before from my Lafayette friends. That surely can't be the same Levin Black. There must have been hundreds of guys named Levin Black running around IN 5-10 years ago looking like Wolverine's teenage stunt double.
  12. No Baez in any of these lineups?
  13. Theo will never spend another dollar on booze in his life
  14. He was probably Zobrist's competition this year Rizzo probably should have gotten it, but it's awesome as horsefeathers that we can have a legit argument about a bunch of different CUBS who were deserving Given that none of the good hitters really made stand out defensive plays, Rizzo was the best choice as a hitter (.484 OBP, more BBs than Ks). But Zobrist is an ok choice. Bryant would have been fine, though his 2 errors didn't help him. Arrieta was probably the best choice actually: 11.1 IP, 2.38 ERA, .97 WHIP (just 5 hits), 15 K (that's 11.9 k/9), and 2 W (not that it matters, but MLB and old timers like that). If terms of key moments: Obviously Lester pitched great in games 5 and 7, but he stumbled badly in Game 1. Arrieta won two must-win games on the road. Zobrist had the key go-ahead hit in Game 7, but Montero actually had the winning RBI.
  15. love of heroin? btw - last night's game ended around 10pm, so
  16. Let's just keep being incredible in the field and shoot for no GIDPs and call it good.
  17. Yep. I was 13. He was my favorite player by then. I had walked alongside Dawson with a crowd of kids in St Louis that summer from the old Busch to the Cubs hotel. Seems like it wasn't much before that game. He refused to sign autographs but he was cool as hell and talked baseball with all of us while we walked as close as we were comfortable walking next to him. Until two years ago, he was easily still my favorite Cub. ...but Schwarber is neck and neck now. Can probably pass him up, game 7 pending. Dawson's timing was right as I was 9 in 1987 when he won MVP and when I spent an inordinate amount of time hitting off the screen HRs with him in RBI baseball.
  18. jesus christ, I actually remember watching that game live Yep.
  19. I'll say this for the world series. Jim Beam seem more appealing.
  20. please score a million runs in the first so this cannot be another crazy stressful game k thx
  21. none. i don't think anyone wants you to say that or ever wanted you to say that I didn't ask you because I have absolutely zero interest in your preferences about what I say. if you wanted a personal response from david, you should have sent a pm. otherwise, don't ask stupid questions if you don't want to hear the answer.
  22. that's just dumb. today is "win today and you can win the world series tomorrow." none of us has seen that. arguing that Game 6 of the WS is equivalent to Game 7 of an NLCS makes no sense at all. but you do you. In emotional terms or whatever, sure. But in terms of championship utility, there is no difference between a 50% chance to win a 7-game series and a 50% chance to win game 7. the difference in championship utility (which is a phrase i can't believe is even being used here but w/e) is that a win today means we have to win 1 more game. the functional difference in probabilities is all the other horsefeathers that had an X% chance of happening to put the Cubs within 2 wins of a WS title happened and we came out the other side. The difference between Game 7 of the NLCS giving you a 50% chance of winning the WS and Game 7 of the WS giving you a 50% chance of winning the WS is YOU ONLY HAVE TO WIN 1 MORE GAME. If the Cubs are playing tomorrow, it means they actually won 3 games in the WS and have a 50% chance of winning the 4th, which is meaningfully different than having a 50% chance of winning 4/7. THIS IS SO horsefeathering STUPID WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS
