  1. When was the last time the Cubs did that? this is simply thoughtless and ridiculous. I know it's fun for you, but did you consider any recent trades before posting this?
  2. There are obviously worse contracts in baseball, but that 3-year extension in 2008 made no sense whatsoever.
  3. Plus, that deferred money can come back to haunt you. Cripes, the Rangers still owe Mickey Tettleton $1.4m. how is that worse for the Rangers?
  4. It's not really helpful for out of towners True. Unless you're in college about 2 hours from Wrigley and could check the morning before a 1 or 2 pm start and easily be there for game time. Even this morning, if I hadn't just returned from a week away and had $200 burning a hole in my pocket, I could have easily nabbed those Cards tickets and been at Wrigley with 30 minutes to spare.
  5. I miss coming home from school and flipping between the Cubs and GI Joe.
  6. wish I'd known that before.
  7. Batters completely erase the back line of the batters box so they can stand further back too. Big deal. Not guilty by virtue of two wrongs make a right? not guilty by virtue of neither action seems all that significant. If the batters were standing a foot behind the box, that would be a problem. If the pitcher were standing at the bottom of the mound rather than 2 inches from the rubber, that would be a problem. As it is, neither seems like that big of a deal.
  8. I just checked online an hour ago and could get 2 seats in Section 34, Row 10 for face value. For Cards/Cubs. On a beautiful sunny day. The Friday of Memorial Day weekend. WTF?
  9. Who are all these top prospect SP that the Rays and Red Sox moved to the pen without having innings as a starter? Price and..... Dude quit while you're behind already. You sound like Dusty with this "that's how they've always done it" logic. Why don't you address the previous post he made? What post was that? He asked for guys that were starters in the minors, broke into the bigleagues as relievers, and then ultimately settled in as starters. Such a list has already been provided. He asked for starters that the Sox and Rays brought up to the majors as relievers. You identified Price and no one else. You seem to be ignoring the question b/c you made up the claim that the Sox and Rays (as "forward-thinking" organizations) have adopted this strategy. (doing something once doesn't seem to be adopting a strategy)
  10. Right, so why wouldn't he want to go to one of those instead of some sweep of a doubleheader in May of 2004? Because he's trolling? Yes. Jake is definitely trolling. And he's also definitely the only one doing so in this thread. I know Jake isn't a troll, but that response was just dumb. Why would that be the one game he would want to go to? Congrats those wins really meant a lot for your franchise they propelled you to 6 more losing seasons. Meanwhile you could have watched Honus Wagner play. dude - jake's been here forever (not like fred forever, but a long time). it's a joke. maybe we could take a deep breath here, eh?
  11. why didn't you do anything!?!?!?!
  12. I'm going to guess that in an amazing feat of strength, Hanley could have lept 100 feet and scooped the ball and threw it home in one instantaneous motion and prevented anyone from advancing 1 base, let alone score. Was it laziness or was it a play he gave up on thinking that there was basically no way to stop 2 guys from scoring after you just kicked a ball all the way to the outfield corner? He prevented Abreu from scoring, which is probably the logical outcome I would have guessed might happen if you posed the question "what happens if.....". leaped 100 feet? what are you talking about? Sarcasm in wondering how many runners Gonzalez expected Ramirez to keep from scoring on that play. keeping the guy at 1st from scoring and stopping the batter at 2nd was certainly within reason. maybe his knee was hurting, but he was running a heck of a lot slower trying to chase down the ball than he was when he was running after the pop-up.

  14. that video is amazing. I'm surprised Gonzalez didn't go out on the field and yank him right after that play.
  15. About 740 for an actual 162 game player. 680-700 for most everyday guys. 600 would be taking a fair amount of time off. Three full seasons is going to get you 2000 PA. 150 games @ 4 PAs/game = 600. I wouldn't consider missing 10-12 games to be a huge amount of time off. And for catchers, the bar should be lower. Either way, it's all splitting hairs. Yes, the Cubs have not been good at drafting position players for far too long. But the original claim and the "facts" posted to support it painted a pretty biased picture.
  16. yeah. if you're going to pick an arbitrary number, at least go with PAs so as to take into account walks. I'm no Theriot fan, but it seems hard to argue that a guy with 2300 PAs hasn't seen "significant" action in the majors.
  17. what's the significance of 4000 ABs?
  18. There are 2 on the current team. How dare you interrupt my hyperbole with facts!!! And Ronny Cedeno is waving to you from Pittsburgh! being an everyday player in Pittsburgh doesn't count (not b/c it's not the Cubs, but b/c Pittsburgh isn't a real MLB team)
  19. have you tried this? viewtopic.php?p=2298567#p2298567 (from a few threads down in this forum)
  20. wait a minute. you mean to tell me that at this exact moment in time, you'd rather have a SP with a 3.40 ERA than a DH that can't OPS .650 and was DFA'd?
  21. now that's an idea. question is: who?
  22. Baseball#### (I don't remember the numbers)?
  23. I'm impossible to talk with because I refuted your half assed defense of Hendry. You said you were ambivalent toward him. That makes no sense. The most important person in the organization is the GM, Hendry is the one constant over the past 15+ years of this organization. He was involved in some good things as far as rebuilding the minors early on, but fell flat on his face as GM. It does not matter that there are some good deals he has made. Every failed GM has to have a good deal or two under his belt, especially if they are given 8 years at the helm, ever increasing payrolls and the ability to always take on more money in transactions. If he was the one that had to dump Lee and Ramirez due to payroll problems, I'm sure he wouldn't look as good. you're impossible to talk with because you set up false dichotomies of right (you) and COMPLETELY INSANE (those that disagree with you). Even when I agree with you, as I do here, I find myself frustrated by your posts. You're refusing to acknowledge that TT's position could even be rational, let alone right. Anyone that has read this board for more than a few minutes knows that if there's one thing you can count on, it's TT being logical (even when he's wrong).
