Nobody thinks a day with wind gusts up to 60mph is "beautiful." you're right. siberians can at least buy vokda on sundays. my point is haugh has had it out for ND for seemingly ever. he picked 1-2 sentences that fit his narrative. those aren't the only words Kelly has spoken on the subject and getting hung up on calling a sunny october day in south bend "beautiful" seems pointless and dumb. Was it the greatest choice of words? Maybe not. Out of context, you can certainly cast a poor light on Kelly by quoting them in your article suggesting that ND hasn't taken responsibility. practice had been going on, what, 30-40 minutes when the tragedy happened? it's so far beyond belief that the wind was strong but not remarkably so for a fall day in SB for the time that Kelly was out before the gust knocked over the lift? none of us know exactly what the day was like during that relatively short time frame. Kelly may have thought the weather seemed fairly normal until he felt a very strong gust and heard the crash. Seems plausible. All of which is quite the tangent from the larger issue that someone should have better known the safety precautions to take or policies should have been in place to prevent the use of the lifts when the weather makes it dangerous. Kelly's view on whether the day was pleasant or not is so minor in the scheme of things, isn't it?

oh, come on. when ND does anything wrong, Andy collapses faster than you getting up off the couch. Kelly made the decision to be out there b/c he wants practices outside all the time [i think they've had 2 practices indoors since he took over just more than a year ago]. Inherent in that decision is the assumption that the film kids will be doing their typical jobs. I don't think Kelly knows the specific safety restrictions on all of the equipment and I don't expect him to. But ultimately, this whole thing is on his shoulders. But there is an adult whose job is to know the specifications for the lifts and he/she either didn't know the danger or didn't keep the kids from going up in the lifts when they did. It's also possible that the kid himself didn't read the safety instructions. What kid has ever read an instruction manual for anything he's ever owned (except kyle)? that's a really long, drawn out way of saying, I don't think you're going to find that anyone, especially not Kelly, explicitly told the kid to go up in the scissor lift that day. That seems to be what that blowhard Haugh, and possibly folks in this thread, expect to find. But what you're also not likely to find, is that anyone told him not to go up there. That's troubling and a large part of the reason ND got fined. That's not Kelly's job, it's far below him, but he's ultimately responsible as the HC. Does that mean he's some evil person? That sort of "logical" leap seems faulty to me and what I take issue with. That all seemed fairly boring to flesh out, esp since most of the posters here either don't like or actively hate ND. But since you asked so nicely, there you go.

The motivation is avoiding injury. They think that somehow this will reduce injury. I'm not quite sure how, but that's the justification. b/c a receiving team is less likely to bring a ball out of the end zone if they get it at the 25 on a touch back? seems like you could figure out what the average return yardage is on kicks in or near the end zone and give the receiving team that yardage on a touch back. Fewer kick returns means fewer violent collisions. I assume that's the thinking. Isn't it just going to cause more pop ups/squibs around the 10 yard line, leaving the return man even more prone? I don't know. Quite possibly. I'm just providing my guess at their logic.

You tell me. Take the high road? How when a supposed moderator of this forum does stupid stuff like this. How is this moderation? This is a perfect example of what I am talking about on this board. A freaking moderator decides to not be nice and agree that being nice is better than anything else but call out the poster who is trying to call out he other people not being nice. Thank you for proving yet again why something needs to change around here. All I am asking is for people to be nice to each other. Please respect this and moderate the discussion rather than continue to fuel the fire. Obviously I am asking for trouble, but this cannot stand from a moderator. How do you propose MLB prevent a team from selling hats that DON'T have MLB or one of its trademarks on it? the agreement each team signs with mlb in which mlb purports to own and control the world. btw - i love the tone. as if my doubt that the cubs could take some action without mlb approval offends you in some way.

agreed. unless their proposals are beyond the realm of reason, not even having the courtesy to respond typically elicits a pretty aggressive response. not often a successful strategy when your opponent actually has the money to fight.

I hope they sell these. I would like one. I'd be shocked if MLB let a team sell hats that didn't have the MLB logo. So put an mlb logo on the back. An oversight on these wouldn't prevent a retail sale. having dealt with MLB's licensing folks, it's never that easy. MLB makes the federal government seem well organized.
