  1. do the scholarships pay for board in off campus housing, or do you have to live in a dorm? i don't know, nor do i care. bitching about rent and selling a big ten title ring to pay for it (and a car that you got well below fmv) while having the option of taking a free room (and food, btw) makes you look like an [expletive].
  2. so, b/c you had so many of them, you sold your rings to pay rent and for the brand new car that you got b/c the dealer gave every football player a sweat deal on a new car? i hope you're not shooing for sympathy there. btw - scholarships pay for board, so where were you living that you had to sell [expletive] to pay your rent?
  3. well, except for the return they got for him. he's an elite SP pitcher and all they really got was carlos gomez (the rest of those guys have done almost nothing at the big league level). this isn't really 20/20 hindsight either; a lot of people thought they should have gotten a better return. yeah, i didn't word that very well. i just meant they got the best out of him and then he goes and signs a fat contract that doesn't look so good so far (though he's still fairly young). maybe they knew he was going to tank and were just being nice with the trade. 'no really, this is enough. believe us.'
  4. to be fair, santana was elite... health has been the main problem with him. yes, he was. he's also 1 of 2 pitches in the top 15. and CC is the only pitcher in the top 20 that's not a bad deal just a couple years in (and it might look really bad in a couple years if he falls apart). so maybe go elite and stay away from near-elite or pitchers. speaking of santana, boy the twins worked that pretty well (read: lucked out). he leaves, has 1 great year and then the injuries pop up.
  5. yeah, you could arguably extend my "yikes" all the way to 20. i just stopped at reading at wells/zito.
  6. those top 10 look really good. 11 is much too early to tell. but 12-15? yikes. go elite, but don't go near-elite.
  7. what does all the extra stuff have to do with Jackson? When Byrd's back, you send him to Iowa (unless he's terrible and needs to be back in AA). If he's hitting so well you want to keep him up here, you find some ABs for him somewhere.
  8. I skipped like 5 pages b/c I foolishly believed that this couldn't still be going on. Stop. Please. Or set up a new thread to make the same posts over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
  9. 2.3 i want to hear what the bum has to say about this something about what a beautiful day it was in oklahoma that must have really upset you. you're so solemn when people die young.

  11. a buddy of mine in hs did that before every hoops game.
  12. I'll preface this post by saying I think Colvin is probably a lot better than he's shown this season. Not as good as the player we saw last year, but better than he's been this year. He's currently got a line of .113/.191/.258. The positive thing is, a .78 IsoD (isolated discipline, the difference between his average and OBP) and a .145 IsoP (isolated power, the difference between his average and slugging) aren't terrible numbers. However, Colvin isn't just hitting into bad luck to this point. His BABIP is .161, and while you'd think that was due to go up, he's simply not hitting line drives right now either (11.1 LD%). His LD% has gone up recently, but only slightly. Before he gets at all productive again, Colvin's going to have to start hitting the ball harder. And as long as the three starting OFs are highly productive, you can't throw an offensive black hole out there. As for sending Colvin down, I just don't know that it would help much. He might get a little more confidence hitting AAA pitching, but his ceiling is probably as a 4th OF and that's his current role. i don't necessarily disagree with any of your points. However, with his current inability to do much of anything and Quade's complete lack of confidence in him, more ABs at the AAA level might be what he needs. Otherwise, he's not a 4th OF, he's a waste of a roster spot. I haven't checked and don't know that there's any better options available. But if getting more confidence hitting AAA pitching actually allows him to be a decent 4th OF at the ML level, then that's an option the Cubs should strongly consider.
  13. believe me, i do not want to be defending erik here. God forbid.  well, you havent actually made much of an argument. That wasn't what you meant by that statement, and you know it. We both know your problem wasn't with my argument, but with me. dear lord, let it go

  15. If Theriot gets an ovation, they should tear Wrigely down. I'm not joking. guess wrigley is safe
  16. believe me, i do not want to be defending erik here. but the question you've posed isn't really a test of his logic. erik's in no position to know what gm candidates are available any more than any average fan would be. he's likely not in a much better position to know much about possible 3B candidates, but he, like most fans, likely believes that he has a better grasp on those candidates (and at least has decent info available about those candidates online). you've done the same with tarver - asking him to detail who will replace hendry and how far cuts will go, etc, etc. you're asking people to make decisions well beyond their means simply b/c they don't like the job the current guy has done. You don't have to have a plan in place to fix the Cubs in order to want the current GM fired. I frankly think imb stated it best: there's someone better than hendry out there. if the ricketts can't find that person, we're in deep.

  18. Yeah, it just makes Iowa's accomplishments that much more impressive... ::nervous laugh, tugs on collar:: I'm not sure I understand that graph. But Iowa doesn't recruit the 5-star players that usc and osu do. They don't appear to be choir boys, but Iowa (like Wisconsin) turns a lot of low-ranked talent into NFL draftees. Then again, recruiting rankings aren't intended to be predictors of NFL talent, but cfb talent. So comparing star recruits to the NFL draft is interesting, maybe, but a mis-application of the rivals and scout systems, imo.
  19. Everyone else was getting away with armed robbery? I thought the crazy stuff happened after he had left osu and tried to get into the NFL early. No?
  20. that's interesting in light of what's come out about programs like U$C and OSU (I mean, O$U) the last couple years.
  21. I forgot about Clarett. Almost feel bad for him since everyone else was getting away with it.
  22. No I meant the team overall is performing as I expected. Your not making much sense there buddy. when you use "it" to refer to something other than the most recently-identified subject, it's not the reader that needs to make the change.
  23. wait wait wait. russell and coleman haven't been greg maddux clones? get the [expletive] out of town. the starters weren't the mid-90s braves before losing 2 guys to the DL and Dempster imploding.
  24. imaginary tickets always get you great seats to imaginary games, tree
