  1. I hope ND wins because that gives me the win in the office pool.
  2. It's amazing how all these new folks are 100% certain they know exactly what the Cubs plans are.
  3. This is an unexpected beating Illinois is putting on Oregon tonight.
  4. First, this was a super fun game and I was very pleasantly surprised to see Illinois play them close, let alone win. Second, yeah, Beamer seems to have some small man syndrome going on here. The way Bielema explained his issue with the fake fair catch "signal" was pretty measured and makes Beamer look like a douche trying to game the system because he didn't think his team could beat the other one straight up.
  5. Given the same schedule or a head to head, I'm taking Illinois all day.
  6. Because your take on this is dumb and MLB has handled this in the worst way possible. But mostly because you have bad opinions and Sammy was awesome.
  7. The whole point of the trade was to free up cash. The prospect return was a consideration, but Jed wanted to free up that money to use on a non-outfield roster spot with Tucker in the fold. That was obvious from the time he started talking about Belli not opting in, he never wanted him on the roster in '25 to begin with. On top of that, Seattle has a budget issue and certainly wasn't going to take on that kind of salary in a trade regardless of the return.
  8. Not if prescribed by a doctor.
  9. Yep. They didn't want to pay him. I'm not saying he's the guy you have to have, but he's a reasonable option.
  10. He's saying that with Tucker gone, the Astros are a worse team and that's why Arenado doesn't want to go there, which totally makes sense. I thought it was a weird fit anyway with the Astros having just traded for Paredes and allegedly trying to cut payroll, but apparently Arenado is willing to move to 1B to mitigate some of the back issues he's had and that would have been the fit.
  11. Yeah, if you look at the "holes" they'd have come 2027, you're looking at RF (Tucker), LF (Caissie/Alcanatara), 2B (Triantos), and DH (Ballesteros) on the let's call it hitter side of things. The pitching definitely becomes dicey if several of those young guys don't end up as rotation stalwarts, but as cheap as the position player side would be outside of Tucker and Swanson, you can probably fill a rotation spot or two reasonably well.
  12. If the base is still 48 for replacement level, then this is around 92.
  13. Position players outside of Tucker feel bullish and starting pitching feels a little bearish, so probably about on point as a whole in my amateur opinion.
  14. Jesus H. horsefeathers Christ 🤦‍♂️
  15. What an odd return. This dude hadn't pitched 10 innings in a season since 2019 before last year when he got in like 75 between the minors and majors. He pitched much better in MLB (results wise anyway) than MiLB.
  16. I doubt that happens unless he's willing to agree to the deal not starting until 2026 because it would blow up the 2025 budget if they do it before FA starts at the end of the season.
  17. Sweat got called because it was a helmet to helmet hit and the one on Caleb wasn't Now, there was an illegal contact on Rome and a facemask on Caleb on 2nd and 3rd down on consecutive plays near the red zone and neither got called when the outcome of the game was still in question.
  18. Caleb is shell shocked right now. The protection last night wasn't great, but there were plenty of plays where he had protection and just flat out missed wide open receivers, Rome in particular. I think he'll be fine but the whole offense is just a mess right now.
  19. The reduced playing time may help with the injury part and I do like the fact that he can be a handcuff for both 1B and 3B with his ability to switch hit. You can play him against tough RHP and give Shaw a day off and play him against tough LHP and give Busch a day off, plus he becomes the top bench bat. He gets 2-3 starts a week depending on matchups and he's injury/failure insurance.
  20. Yeah, hanging as tough as they did while shooting under 20% from 3 and being led by a freshman 10 games into his college career is a very encouraging result. It would have been awesome if they could have pulled it out but, overall, a great result if they're taking an L.
  21. They don't have to. They want to, and it certainly makes filling out the rest of the roster easier, but they don't have to.
  22. 6 guys for 5 positions is 135 starts each, and that's without any injury time factored in. To TT's point, Belli, Seiya, and PCA have all spent time on the IL and are likely to end up there again just based on history. I'll absolutely concede they need to move Belli to make payroll work for the pitching staff additions we all think they need, but this isn't some untenable situation they're desperate to get out of.
