  1. Good ol' one-pitch Perez. YES!!!!!!
  2. What did he do? All I have is gameday.
  3. It wasn't a DP, ramirez can still single in a run here. Bizarro World?
  4. Let's see what DLee can do when the guys in front of him do their jobs.
  5. what's with the mound visit in the middle of the AB?
  6. I wish the Cubs pitchers would make note of this so they don't walk the 8th and 9th hitters in other teams lineups. Not that most pitchers hit as poorly as Perez and Macias, but you get the point.
  7. You and me both. I was expecting a reply of Philly. Philly Nice!
  8. Good job by Z to get out of that mess.
  9. Nice quick inning, now bring in Dempster for the love of God!
  10. At least Padilla is throwing a lot of pitches. Maybe we can take advantage of the less than spectacular Philly pen.
  11. Did anybody ever figure out if Lawton can play center or not?
  12. Having had the surgery for both problems, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject. Up until about 3 years ago, a torn labrum had to be fixed in an open surgery as opposed to an arthroscopic procedure. Now, they can do it with the scope, resulting in far less scarring, pain, and rehab time. My doctor is in fact the same guy who did Morris' surgery and he is damn good. I can say that the amount of pain involved in throwing when there is a problem with the labrum is significant and it feels like your shoulder is on fire and about to explode after every throw (See John Smoltz in the playoffs a few years ago). All in all, I think they should shut him down, fix the shoulder and see what he can do next year. If it turns out anything like Morris di, I will be a happy camper.
  13. 1. Any injury to the shoulder that requires surgery is almost always worse than an elbow because there is so much soft tissue and it is such a difficult area to get repaired properly (I've had my labrum repaired twice now) 2. Sending Wood to the pen at this point makes sense to me due to the disarray it is in. We have extra guys around who can start so they might as well be used. If Kerry can only pitch 1 inning twice a week, so be it. If he's effective in the pen it does the team a whole lot more good than having him pitch 3 innings every start and having to burn up the pen. I say stick him in there, use him in a setup role and see what happens. it seems to me that it gets aggravated when he pitches a lot of innings so reducing the # he pitches may help.
  14. I live in STL and sports radio talk is that the injury to Rolen isn't necessarily going to get any better with rest. It will feel good when he rests, but as soon as he starts playing again it flares back up. It almost sounds like if he can get thru the season he'll need surgery after.
  15. Does Novoa stay in for the 8th? Or do we risk a flame out by somebody else?
  16. Sweet!!! Novoa for president!!
  17. During the recent 8 game losing streak, the following pitchers lost: Maddux Prior Williams Mitre Wood Maddux Prior Novoa Since the high water mark of June 11 when the Cubs were 6 games over .500, they have lost 18 times, 8 of which are accounted for above. The other losses can be attributed to Maddux x 2, Mitre x 2, Rusch x 2, Zambrano, Remmy, Koronka and Ohman. I don't see an inordinate number of losses coming from Wood/Prior fill ins. You are going to expect losses from bullpen guys like Ohman, Remmy, etc. Rusch and Mitre were slated to be #5/ML pen guys anyway, so I don't necessary consider them "fill ins". Blaming the Cubs poor play during that stretch on injuries to starting pitching doesn't persuade me. But how many of those games were lost because the bullpen had been used up because of a poor start the day before? You have to take into account the overall toll that the big guns being out took on the staff, not just who lost what games on what days.
  18. It's a ten run lead. Why over-work Wood when it isn't necessary. The pen hasn't gotten much work due to the break. This is an excellent time to get the pen three innings of work. I could buy that if he put in Novoa or Ohman or Rusch, but the most overworked guy down there, no.

  20. You don't think he's experienced another twinge? :? There will be no more twinges from anyone the rest of the year. That's an order. (I hope)
  21. Why, why, why is Kerry out of the game?
  22. Jerry "apparently I'm a problem" Hairston goes yard.
  23. Burny is having some nice ABs today. Good to see somebody other than the top of the lineup getting a look at a lot of pitches.
