  1. I really don't think you can mess with THE RIOT, though. It's just too good of a nicname.
  2. It's not a great idea to have a pitcher with a significant injury history throwing 109+ pitches for 6 consecutive starts. Why not 108+ or 110+? Actually Will Carrol and other people who speak on pitch counts think that the 105-115 area is the best amount to maximize the contribution of a starting pitcher - 120 is the bad mark. Because if you look at the pitch counts his last 6 games have been 109 or higher.
  3. I didn't see the game, but the brief highlights I saw of Z pitching he was comming straight over the top in almost an exaggerated motion. I've also not seen the drop in velocity. What did the gun have him at? SNY had him throwing 87-88 in the first. I DVRd from the 2nd on and watched later, slowing on occasion to see him pitch. I saw much of the same stuff I'd seen before. Yes, he was throwing over the top, but not all the time. And it was hardly just a case of him reverting when he got rattled. Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez sure didn't like the looks of his mechanics, although they seemed to agree that he improved as the game went along. He was regularly hitting 93-94 on the SNY gun later in the game and I saw a couple run up there at 95-96 so his velocity was not an issue last night. Control on those faster pitches wasn't always great, but at least he was getting it up there with some gas on it again.
  4. I put that loss entirely on whoever decided to tell Wuertz to even concern himself with Reyes at 1st. You just can't let a guy like Endy freaking Chavez draw a walk because the coaching staff decides the pitcher needs to throw over to 1st 4 times and then pitches out. Also, part of the blame is on Blanco for not being able to do the only damn thing he's good at. /end rant
  5. So we predict the drunken blackout to occur sometime between the bottom of the first and the middle of the second, right?
  6. Are you sure he didn't swing and miss? Actually the baby seal wasn't in the strike zone so he kept the club on his shoulder, waiting for the seal to get into his wheelhouse so he could pop it up.
  7. In their defense, the pitchers they've faced the last 2 days have been prettysolid all year. I don't like all the wasted oppotunities in game 1 of the series, but hey, sometimes the pitching picks up the O and sometimes the O makes up for the pitching.
  8. Throw Kaz Matsui in there at SS and you've got your lineup.
  9. It might have been Baker's level of stupidity, especially considering that he burned through the entire bench without finding a way to pull Izturis, but I think Lou's brand of stupidity is notably different. Maybe it's because Lou at least seems like he has an idea of why he's making some of the moves he's making.
  10. Actually, I put this one on the offense's inability to get runs home from 3rd with less than 2 out. Had at least 2 ABs with a chance to do it and didn't get it done.
  11. I just called them this morning and was told it will be available for order tomorrow (5/8). I inquired about the price and was informed it would be the full season price of $159.96 to start right away and $129 for the half season package available starting July 9. What a load of crap that they're charging the full season rate after missing a month and a half of the season.
  12. The Glenallen Hill bit is fantastic.
  13. Agree. He did that well without making the ump feel like he was being shown up. For all the criticism of Barrett's D, I think he's come a long way since he got to the Cubs.
  14. It was about 5 inches outside. no way in hell that thing was almost half a foot off the plate. It totally got the corner. Let's be honest here. It wasn't that far off the plate, but it was off the plate and the ump called the same location a ball to lee about 4-5 pitches later.
  15. Ya, that 2 seamer he's throwing has a ton of movement That 1st strike he threw to the 2nd batter that inning was very Maddux-esque, but plus 10 mph or so. Probably nearly unhittable.
  16. Rooney is solid, but Shannon is not. But don't tell Cardinal fans this. They've got the same deal going with Shannon that we have with Santo. He's a beloved ex-player who may not be all that good at what he does, but the fans love him for nostalgic reasons more than anything else. Personally, I think the guy's an idiot because he intentionally mispronounces Maddux's name, always saying Maddox. Drives me nuts.
  17. I haven't seen full stats yet, but 7 hits in 5 IP is not good. 7/22 for the other team is a .318 avg along with the .304 from his start at Daytona. I'm leary of what that would translate to at the big league level. Granted there was only 1 BB today, but he's not missing many bats.
  18. It is depressing that even with this win, the Cubs will still be 5.5 games behind the Brewers because everyone they have played is terrible and can't beat them even once. Stupid Cardinals. They screw the Cubs even when they lose.
  19. I think he should go back anyway just so he can play every day. The Murt will get a little more time as well. I don't know who plays CF when Jock needs a day off though.
  20. See, see what happens when you take walks? Keep doing it. You win more.
  21. New rule for Lou: NEVER, EVER, EVER, play Izturis when Theriot is not in the lineup. That is all.
  22. I have no problem with that. Ward needs to hit some to stay sharp, Marquis had a good day and with a 3 run lead there shouldn't be any issues with leaving the bench short. Plus, you still have Murt available.
  23. Lou>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dusty
  24. PC is 101? Send him out and let him finish it or let Wuertz take care of it? I put in Wuertz simply for the fact that Marquis has a history of being crap in the 2nd half. Less wear and tear now may help out later.
