  1. I don't have enough info to address the rest of this, but it seemed to me that a lot of the time a Cub (especially Lee) struck out looking last year, the ball was on the outside edge of the plate and there were a lot of times when it looked like there was a huge outside corner (ie 4-6 inches off the black) that the Cubs pitchers weren't getting in the same game.
  2. I really like the idea (I think it was yours) from the other thread where we sign Fukudome for CF, put Murton in RF, and trade Pie to SD for Greene and a prospect. That seems like a pretty realistic scenario that would help both teams if we included Cedeno and they sent back whatever decent guy(s) they've got in their system.
  3. Here's some 2008 projections James J.Loney .302 /.359/.465 /.823 CHONE J.Loney .284/.347/.431/.778 James M.Kemp .322/.365/.508/.873 CHONE M.Kemp .289/.337/.467/.804 Yeah, it'd totally suck to have those two hitting 3 and 5. Absolutely awful.
  4. One would hope. What in the world are we talking about here? Garwilly's comment on the possible breaking news.
  5. What are reasonable projections for Kemp and Loney for the next couple of years?
  6. Hopefully he was referring to XM and not being a jerk and referring to you.
  7. It's his hitting, not defense, that's the problem. Moving him to first would be nuts. That was my question, is it hitting when he has pain or throwing? It's the left shoulder I believe so the problem is with swinging the bat. He's still a well above average 3rd baseman.
  8. I don't know of any studies comparing 4 and 5 days rest, but there have been convincing studies showing no performance/injury difference in a 4-man rotation vs. a 5-man rotation. Didn't those studies actually show there were less injuries when using a 4 man rotation?
  9. They have money. They just opt to not use it. Same difference. Actually, I read somewhere that each team gets about $30 million this year from MLB.com, TV rights, or franchising rights. In other words, they're all making a ton of money. Actually, I think that number is somewhere around $45-46 million. Which means that d-bag in Florida put about $25-30M in his pocket each of the last 2 years.
  10. I've discovered that it has to do with the Google ads that are on each page. My browser is going through them as if they are each a page unto themselves and it takes four backspace or previous page clicks to get back to the index of what I'm looking at. Don't know if there's anything I can do to fix it, but if somebody knows how, please tell me.
  11. I'm having an issue using the backspace button to get from the page I'm on to the page I was previously viewing. I've never had a problem in the past using, but I now have to hit it about 4 times to go back a page. Same problem on 2 different computers. Not bitching just curious if it's my stuff or a change in the site setup.

    Prior

OK, the rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons to begin with. Second, the rotator cuff is an easier repair because there is actually something to work with in terms of skeletal structure to attach to. The labrum surgeries have come a long way in the last 10 years. If Prior had this surgery done in 1997, he would have a 6 inch scar on the front of his shoulder. The labrum is a more difficult fix because it is almost solely responsible for holding the front side of your shoulder together and there is very little skeletal structure to attach it to just because of the way the shulder is constructed. Now, after all that, Prior probably does have a pretty good shot at coming back because the loss of velocity is tied to the loss of external rotation. The loss of external rotation is due to tightening of the shoulder, which is easier to avoid when a surgery is done arthroscopically and less initial swelling is experienced and therapy can start sooner and be more effective. I'm no doctor, but I've had 2 labrum surgeries on the same shoulder in the last 10 years.
  13. Yeah, Sori and JJ aren't all that selective, but they are obviously not seeing that splitter or whatever he's throwing at all. And then you get our best hitter looking at 2 meatballs down the middle to K. Fantastic. Not getting good vibes about this.
  14. Based on what was discussed on the radio today, I would be surprised if Mozeliak is retained as the GM. It sounds like they really want to go in the direction of a guy who is really into player development, a la Paul DePodesta. Not to say they'll become the Marlins or Twins, but as a Cardinal fan, you have to be disappointed in the production of the minors the last few years. (Not that the Cubs have been much better)
  15. Sir Charles?! He's closer to 6'3" and well above 276. I was thinking David Wells. :D I'm thinking a wrestler. Size seems right, WWE is headquartered in MA I believe and it does say "entertainer/athlete".
  16. And now apparently the ball just has to be near the plate to be a strike for the Brewers pitcher. Well, maybe they have a chance after the Burke double.
  17. I think the words you're looking for are soap dropping soap dropper soap soap soap dropping soaper.
  18. Double Switched out LAWL I may have to nominate that for stupid move of the year. Especially when you're bringing in Cousell for him.
  19. I was actually sitting here thinking I could cancel my 1pm hearing, leave after lunch and get there in plenty of time. Then turn around and get home in time to still get a bit of sleep. WTF is wrong with me???!!! Let me know if you go....I've thought about it too... Actually, I've got a buddy in Cincy...if the games still matter I'm driving over for the Sat and Sunday games the final weekend of the year... I went so far as checking tickets and looking for hotel rooms and then realized that's the same weekend that my wife has to read in a friend's wedding. Stupid people getting married and wrecking my fun.
  20. I understand the love for stats on this board and they really are truly valuable in alot of cases. But to cite a run expectancy number whena guy executed what he was trying to do, come on. Regardless of what the numbers may say, it sure seems like it would be a whole lot easier to get a guy in from 3rd with less than 2 out than ot would be to have to get a hit to score him from 2nd. As to the Theriot love, fans like him because he does play hard and most importantly, after watching all the incompetence the Cubs have thrown out there over the years, from baserunning blunders to spiking the ball into the ground from the outfield, it's a nice change of pace to see a guy who 98% of the time makes the right decision, runs hard, and just doesn't cost the team by doing stupid crap. Plus, whether his OBP is .330 or .400, he rarely give up an easy AB for the pitcher, and like he did tonight, seems to really work the count when the Cubs need it most. (and yes, I know there's no such thing as clutch!!)
  21. Used instead of F-bombs.
  22. I just listened to that song 15 times in a row on my ipod...(followed by "when the Cubs go Marching in"...my wife thinks I need help... :D you do, that song sucks Oh...Zip it!! Buzz kill. Does anyone know where you can listen to that song online? I know I've done it before. There's a site called rhapsody.com that I think I've found it before. You can listen to it for free there or just download it at iTunes.
  23. You might try Collinsville. It's about 10 miles East of downtown but is safe and clean area with 5-6 hotels all together along with a few restaurants just off I-55. Usually a few with reasonable pricing over there.
  24. Has there been any announcement as to when playoff tickets will go on sale? The Cardinals MLB site has a big banner on it for them but I don't see anything on cubs.com about it.
  25. I've been to around 12-13 ML parks (some no longer exist) and behind Wrigley, AT&T and PNC are my 2 favorites. Really good atmosphere at both. The Jake was decent and Comerica was nice and new but kind of had an antiseptic not so homey feel to it.
