I'm not bothered by it (the 4 years) because it's not outlandish by any means and we're talking about a guy who has a pretty good history of being healthy and going out there every 5th day.

Is Gyorko going to be able to stick defensively at 3rd? And what's the realistic top end projection on Kelly? 2/3, 3/4, unknown?

I think I've seen numbers showing lefties fare better at Wrigley hitting, so I suppose having a lefty in the rotation who is the equal to a righty might have a small positive effect. But unless you're confident that lefty is as good or better than his RH competition, there's no reason to just arbitrarily have one in there.

Really? I mean, it's a nice program and all, but it's not like some juggernaut that attracts amazing athletes every single year and has access to a talent laden recruiting base. And as bad as the B1G has been recently, the conference doesn't help any either.

The biggest thing he has on his side outside of being a pretty good pitcher is how really healthy he's been. That makes me a bit more willing to go longer if needed. And, like Kyle said, if we don't spend it here, we're running out of places to put that kind of cash to effective use.

On the head coaching search, did Payton ever get anything done after his contract was voided in NO? If he's willing to leave after all the BS down there, he's by far #1 on my list. How many dump trucks do we need?

Oversimplified example: Guy hits 4 3 run homers in one game and you win 12-2 that day. He goes 0-4 the next three day and you lose those games something like 4-2. Guy hits 1 3 run homer in 4 consecutive games and contributing to you winning 3 and losing 1. Which do you want?

Could you have imagined yourself saying this before they played any games? I'm very pleasantly surprised at how good they've looked so far. The ability to actually score a basket and run an offense is such a big change from the crap they did the last couple of years. They're actually enjoyable to watch most of the time and I no longer think we have the dumbest group of players that has ever been on a court together like I have the last couple years.

I'm not old enouh to know. But wasn't Marcus like 6'8"? Yes, but Bertrand is 6'5-6'6", so not a huge difference. I'm not quite sure what it is about him, but I have had the thought several times. I'm about 99% sure it's the high top fade!

I don't think I'd be opposed to giving him a 4 yr deal if needed. -
He had a breakaway run about halfway through the third quarter and I'm pretty sure the only reason he got tackled was because he was tired from running all over the Rams all day by that point. I can only hope DRose gets the same bionic knee AD has.

same Yeah, it's hard to believe Cutler would make that kind of throw. It's not a difficult pass. It's hard to believe Cutler would make a dreadful decision/pass? Have you followed his career? He exhibits dreadful footwork in the pocket and compounds it by thinking he can stick any throw. Going down this path after a play where Hester clearly ran the wrong route is really pretty pointless. -

The Astros are still out there leading to caravan to prospectville They don't count because they don't have a "plan". I think they have a pretty good plan in hiring the guy who built the Cardinals minor league system that's been producing solid ML talent for the last several years. -

Liriano. Bourn too if you weren't just wondering about SP. There's a few relievers of interest too but no one that makes you take notice. I, for one, would like to see a bat or three. The focus on the pitching is great and all but I'd like to see this team get back out of the gutter when it comes to run production. This is what concerns me the most. If they do trade Soriano, there's huge hole in an already not that good offense.

I don't normally wish injury on players, but I kind of hope his arm falls off now just to screw the Tigers for signing him. Why? His agent did his job and his first choice was to stay in Detroit. It's our front office's job to not get off the phone without a deal and make sure they don't get used for leverage Right, which is why I hope the Tigers get screwed.

Do you not pay attention to anything? It's not the AAV, teams don't really want to go 5 years on a pitcher who's admitted to having shoulder soreness every time he pitches.
