  1. He opted out after 7 years of the original 10 year deal with the Rangers, but I'm not sure if he ever got to actual free agency in terms of timing of when the deal was signed. He certainly could have signed with anyone that off season though.
  2. As much as I hate using a ST performance to evaluate a guy, in this case if he's hitting, he can see the ball and has answered the biggest question hanging over him. There's nobody of importance he'd be taking PT away from, so if he can see and he hits in ST, I have no issue with him breaking camp with the ML team to see what he's got.
  3. I think this is something people tend to forget about Wells. He really didn't ever have the same life/sink on his pitches after that seemingly minor injury and was just bad after that happened.
  4. Man, I don't see how the Cubs could possibly lose this, especially with the specific use of the word "expand" used in the city's approval of the project. I just hope it's dealt with quickly so they can get on with it.
  5. Um, it doesn't work like that and you know it. Tanaka's value was greatly influenced by the fact the he only cost money, he's 25, and had ridiculous numbers in Japan that people "think" will translate very well to MLB. His price tag will have little to no influence on what guys with actual ML track records get paid.
  6. Nah, too coherent and not angry enough.
  7. Who said anything about them being able to block the rooftops without getting sued? at this point, with an impending TV deal, I think the Cubs are gearing up for a war of attrition with these guys. The Cubs will win eventually. If there's really a big tv deal coming, then that's fine, but if there's not, I don't want to think about what a war of attrition would mean for being good at some point.
  8. Based on what it sounds like the Cubs are claiming, there was no need for obstructed/unobstructed view language in the 17% agreement because it was provided by the landmark status. When that was removed, away went the unobstructed view language, at least according to the Cubs. I really hope that's true and they aren't completely screwed here.
  9. Helluva game going on between MSU and Michigan.
  10. Ugh. I just looked at the rest of Illinois' schedule. They're going to be lucky to get to 5 B1G wins.
  11. I think people are severely underestimating Hendricks at this point. He's been getting guys out for a while now with very few high end tools, but he clearly has something that works and I think he's much more likely to contribute to the ML team, and sooner, than a lot of the guys we're talking about at this point. I take him as a much more sure thing than Olt for sure at this point.
  12. I'm pretty sure we can sign as many as we want for less than $250K up to the spending cap.
  13. Rice isn't a feature guard in the big ten, it's not that he's hurt, he's just not fast. No, he's not, but he's lost a lot of his explosiveness he had early in the season and he can't get to the basket at all now.
  14. Someone please explain to me why Ray Rice was on the floor as much as he was tonight when he's clearly not healthy, has no explosiveness, and can't make a jumper while Kendrick Nunn rots on the bench most of the game and does mostly good things while he's in there. Rice needs to sit for a couple weeks and get healthy, he's clearly not the same guy now that he was early in the year and it's killing them.
  15. Then you have serious issues and should seek help immediately. Nah, that's probably a lot more tolerant than I am of the population in general.
  16. Uhhh...what?? Did you expect them to contend for the conference title or something? No, painting the Illini as being unlucky just helps him build up the "universe is out to get sulley" narrative. As if the universe give a [expletive] about him. I think there was a lot of bad luck in the NW game, but this losing streak is all about bad offense. Not unlucky, just bad. The problem is that all of the real talent (outside of Rice) are raw freshmen. After losing to Purdue and NW, which were games that were "put it in the win column" games before the B1G season started, it's gonna be tough sledding getting into the tournament. They have to be shooting a pretty close to historically low % from inside 5 feet at this point in conference games. That may be a combination of being bad and having bad luck, but it's really amazing to watch them miss as often as they do from close range.
  17. I'm so desperate for ML talent at this point that I'm pretty much at this point as well.
  18. That whole deal went down after they put the screens up to block the roof tops views and they threatened to sue. I guess the Cubs figured 17% of their take was better than nothing.
  19. http://i.minus.com/i0X1cMkrSQhK6.gif
  20. Bryant has a lot more power than Bruce though doesn't he? Edit: Never mind, didn't realize Bruce had progressed to a 30+ HR guy.
  21. That's Illinois, just replace defensive train wreck with offensive.
  22. Which is why my preference is for them to just come to an agreement for the "WGN games" and let Fox and Comcast/NBC plus potential wild cards battle it out for the whole enchilada when the time is right. It's a gamble they could take and one I can easily see the case you're making for, but I have no problem with them locking it in right now if the money is right. It might also mean getting more for the WGN games in the meanwhile, before the other new revenue streams are going. This is exactly my thought process. If they can sign a longer term deal, say 10 years, that guarantees Fox the rights after the Comcast deal expires, it might be worth more to Fox in the near term to get the long term guarantee. That's a big deal in my eyes since there seem to be so many restrictions on how much they can spend out of what account right now. Getting a little less down the road isn't as big of a deal because in theory you'll have completed renovations, have less spending restrictions due to the Zell deal, have a better team with increased ticket/concession revenues, and have the renovation ad revenue in place as well. Cash now is a huge deal to progressing as quickly as possible and the longer term dollars are going to be there if they have the capital to make the necessary investments now.
  23. I would think it would be worthwhile to set up some sort of agreement where there's a balloon of the fee once Fox can run with a cable network and they might be willing to pay a premium up front to guarantee they get those rights after the Comcast deal expires. Like a 10 or 12 year deal worth $X million through 2019 and then they pay $3-4X million per year after that.
  24. I have no idea what you're trying to say here. What is the 2+2=3 thing? Are you really expecting those guys to get like $20MM a year? There's no way Tanaka gets less than maybe $18MM if you include the posting fee with all the competition for him.
