  1. The good news is, as good as he is with spending FA money; he's got a spotty track record on trades (Benson for Julio; Kazmir for Little Z). Duquette traded Kazmir.
  2. So what do you do to Walker if you're the Cubs...bench, demote, designate or kill him? Start him for the rest of the time he's with the team. Trade him to a contender that needs a second baseman. As soon as Valentin slumps, the Mets will probably be looking for a second baseman. That was my first thought. Sadly, Walker does not speak Spanish, so Omar probably won't be interested in him.

  4. Kasper and Brenly are lamenting the Cubs' lack of power. I fully expect Hendry and MacPhail to pull them aside and curse at them after the game for publicly questioning management.
  5. It wasn't an error. He was out and the ump blew the call. True.
  6. I'm torn. On the one hand, I don't want Howry or Walker to do poorly. I'm a Cubs fan, and I don't like to see one of our guys struggle. On the other hand, if losing can get rid of Hendry, Baker, MacPhail, and the Trib, then I'm all for it.
  7. Walker will be on the bench again tomorrow.
  8. Philly's 2006 OBP with RISP and 2 outs: .293, 29th in MLB. Philly's 2005 OBP with RISP and 2 outs: .384, 1st in MLB. Did Philly hitters suddenly become less clutch or is the sample size too small? When Andy MacPhail blamed the Cubs' woes on lack of hitting with RISP, he conveniently ignored that they were at the bottom of the league in overall BA, OBP, and OPS.
  9. Geez, with two hits today, Walker has probably earned a week on Dusty's bench. yeah, whats that .300 hitter doing upping his avg.? He needs to bunt more and give to the team. Amen. He's only sacrificed once all year. What a selfish, selfish player. :D
  10. Sigh. Add Bay to the list of non-clutch players. An outfield of Bay, Dunn, and Jacque Jones would be clutch-less.
  11. How close would you say is close? Within 5 percent? 10 percent? I just want to know to see what range would be an acceptable range for this data. Last year, the average team OBP was .330. Boston led the league with .357 and Seattle was last with .317. With RISP, the average OBP was .349. Boston again led the league with .380. The White Sox were lowest in MLB at .329. The average difference in overall OBP and OBP with RISP was .019. The greatest difference: the Angels were .036 better with RISP. The smallest difference: Arizona was .002 better with RISP. One thing that's interesting: no team had a lower OBP with RISP than their overall OBP. Why? One possible factor: dangerous hitters get pitched around or intentionally walked when there are runners in scoring positon.
  12. I hope we can trade him today while he has some value.
  13. Bah, it was a meaningless homerun as the Cubs already had the lead. Jacque = not clutch. Trade him for Dunn. A team with Jones, Dunn, and Arod as the heart of the order wouldn't win games because none of those guys hit when it counts. Can't be any worse then the Cubs as currently assembled. I'm not sure if you guys are being sarcastic when talking about whether Jones is clutch. I seem to remember about 2-3 games where a Jock hit was clutch... I'm totally being sarcastic. a) I don't believe in guys being able to "bear down more" in clutch situations like Brenly does. b) Jones has hit better with RISP than just about everybody else on the team. I think you'll find, with nearly any team, the player with the highest BA tends to have the highest BA with RISP. And its no coincidence. Except that's not true. A quick look at the NL central shows that only 2 out of 6 teams have the player with the highest batting average with the highest average with RISP (with a certain mininum of at bats to take pitchers and bench players out). I bet you could find that is probably true around the league. For example, Barrett is hitting .307 and Jones only .287 normally, but Jones is batting the best on the team with RISP-.288. Then comes Ramirez, Walker, Cedeno, and Neifi before you get to Barrett! Would you like to back up your statement? Small Sample Size. Take a look at most teams' overall OBP and their OBP with RISP and the two numbers are usually quite close. If Jacque Jones or Neifi Perez or Matt Murton had 600 AB with RISP, their numbers would be pretty close to their overall numbers.
  14. Pierre was out at 2nd. It's nice to see us catch a break.
  15. This game is kind of boring so far. The Cubs need to do something stupid to get us worked up.

I'm not sure if you guys are being sarcastic when talking about whether Jones is clutch. I seem to remember about 2-3 games where a Jock hit was clutch... It was sarcasm based on the Adam Dunn thread in transactions. Yep. Dunn is becoming a Cincy whipping boy, much like the way A-Rod is treated in NY.

  18. According to the Astros broadcast, they were childhood teammates. Bob probably meant getting together to catch up for old time sake. Where I come from, it's called doin' the hibbidy-dibbidy. So...you're from St. Louis?

  20. Did Brenly just say that Ronny wants to hook up with Nieve????

  22. Ausmus has a higher OBP than 6 of the batters in the Cubs' lineup today. Clearly he's on HGH.
