  1. Brewers utility infielder: Bill Hall Cubs utility infielder: Neifi Perez Pretty much a wash, except Neifi makes $2 million more than Hall.
  2. Don't worry, Neifi's available to pinch hit.
  3. Blanco's numbers might say that he isn't a good hitter, but the numbers don't tell the whole story. Blanco is clutch.
  4. Pierre with his second HR of the day. Opposite field. I'm calling it.
  5. Speaking of Geoff Jenkins being a poor right fielder....
  6. At the top of page 5, a Brewer fan said that CLee is the worst defender on the team. In reality, he's a little below average, but not that much. Stats show that Weeks and Jenkins are worse in the field: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/rings/discussion/2006_defensive_ratings_through_june_22/ I see. I didn't read the whole thread. Sorry 'bout that. Disregard my laziness with not reading the entire thread. Carry on... It's only 8 pages long!

  8. That was constructive. Are you still drunk from last night? :D LOL! Sorry but to say Lee is below average is stupid. I don't care what stats he has to say that. You know we're talking about defense, right? Yes. You know we're talking about Carlos Lee, not Derrek Lee, right?

  10. That was constructive. Are you still drunk from last night? :D Anyway, here are defensive ratings at BBTF: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/rings/discussion/2006_defensive_ratings_through_june_22/ Again, Carlos will cost the Brewers about 8 runs over the course of the season. Compare that to Jacque Jones, who will cost the Cubs 4 runs over the course of a season. I'm glad Jim got us a guy who can catch the ball.
  11. It was hit so hard that it bounced off the wall fast to a very prepared Carlos Lee who sent it back to second base. Combination of a solid hit and good defending sunk that double. And a perfect throw by Lee. It was a very nice play. Aramis did the right thing in trying for a double. You've got to tip your cap to Carlos Lee. :D Wait, what? Carlos Lee might be the worst defender on the team. Yes, I am aware that he's on a team with Rickie Weeks and Bad Chad Moeller. According to Clay Davenport's fielding metric, Lee is well below average this year, but over his career he's only been slightly below average in LF. He was a very good defensive 3B in the minors, for what it's worth.
  12. Could be both?? Yeah, what's with the false dilemma? :)

  14. Marmol's breaking ball really looks good today.
  15. I turned away from the monitor. I wish I had seen that. :D
  16.
  17. It depends on the overall construction of the team, of course. It would have been stupid for the Royals or the Devil Rays to overpay for a top tier free agent in the offseason because they had no realistic shot at winning. Roster/salary analysis has shown that overpaying to fill a hole on a team with a realistic possibility of contending is usually a sound decision.
  18. Wrigley has security? Most of the time the only staff on hand is a bunch of senior citizens.
  19. I've never been as big on Dempster as most here, but it does deserve mentioning that he hadn't pitched in exactly one week according to Fred's stats. Actually, he pitched Sunday against the Twins. I was afraid I couldn't trust Fred's stats. And he's not here for me to heckle.
  20. Well then how can you even point to a cause for that if it's years later? You take pitchers out when they're gassed, not when they've reached some arbitrary and all-encompassing pitchcount. You have to set individual limits for each pitcher, and if Z didn't get a 1-2-3 in the 8th, you pull him on the first hit or walk. 107 is not near his limit. No one's arguing for an arbitrary pitch count. But Baker has left Z in past the point of fatigue several times in the recent past. A few starts ago he had clearly lost his mechanics late in the game, but Baker didn't pull him right away. And, by the way, those who study pitching mostly agree that fatigue itself isn't the source of injury; when a pitcher becomes tired, he alters his mechanics, often leading to injury. In other words, it's not 120 pitches that causes an injury, it's one pitch after the point of fatigue. Anyway, since the Cubs have literally a 1 in 500 chance of making the postseason, why leave starters in any longer than necessary?
