  1. As a baseball fan, this is one of the craziest and most fun teams to watch in years. Maybe even decades. How can you not cheer for the Rockies?
  2. That doesn't even begin the conversation. We just don't have the guns in the farm system frankly.
  3. The owners of the Cards, Reds, Pirates, and Astros? We out spend them now, and will continue to do so no matter who owns the Cubs based on current contracts. That'd be a stupid reason. But if they feel like Cuban would put a better product on the field, they may not like that. The Cubs success directly influences their success. I don't know if they would actually vote on that basis, but it's what came to mind. But there's also the flip side that the Cubs are a national profile team. When they succeed, ratings rise and that makes more money for baseball. So one would think an owner like Cuban would make them more money. Along those same lines, I feel Cuban's best chance at being approved would be for a team like the Cubs on the national stage. His presence would bring extra money in larger markets, but if he were to buy his hometown Pirates, I doubt he'd stand much of a chance because Pirates improvement would not generate the cash flow to offset his presence.
  4. The owners of the Cards, Reds, Pirates, and Astros? McLane, maybe. I don't know anything about the other owners. Can I make the assumption that generally speaking, owners votes should be independent of competitive balance? In other words, did Steinbrenner vote yes to the new Red Sox ownership? Or does that only work in theory, since some guys have petty personal vendettas?
  5. I think one of the things I love most about DeRosa is his leadership. Anyone else notice that on a team with leaders who tend not to be very vocal (ie Lee, Ramirez), DeRosa has stepped in and been a great interview and a spokesman for the team like Girardi was back in the day.
  6. Am I totally off on this or in a division race, the tiebreaker is head to head? Mets-Phillies, Cubs-Brewers, etc? Wild card I knew went to a playoff, but I thought head to head was a factor. Any help?
  7. My old coworker (who went to school with him) said that Scott Olsen's a diehard Cubs fan. Hopefully he pitches a bad game to help us out. I can always pray can't I?
  8. Help me out here. Anyone got info on Fukodome?
  9. Soriano trying to be Vlad right there.
  10. Is Soriano actually hurt, speculation, or what?
  11. Fixed. I firmly believe that if ESPN weren't based out of Bristol, there wouldn't be as much a focus on the Red Sox/Yankees. Fox at least does a decent job of showcasing teams regionally. Can you imagine if ESPN did that with Sunday Night Baseball? Maybe more people would be interested in teams nationwide. And we wouldn't have to deal with Joe Morgan in every broadcast. A step in the right direction is to showcase on ESPN every team at least once. That, too me, is intriguing because how often would I be able to watch some of these nonshowcased time? I understand ratings drive these sort of things, but hey, I'd sacrifice seeing the Yankees for instance if it was a game against a small market club that gets no air time.
  12. I could be wrong about this, but I believe Lou was never able to appeal his suspension because coaches do not have a union. Is that right?
  13. Seeing how I go to a school without a college football team, I'm pretty pumped to be heading to Miami to visit my buddy for the season opener against Marshall in the Orange Bowl. Glad I get to go before they move out.
  14. Well, at least it's only the third inning and this is Capuano. Come on Reds.
  15. Most of the farm system and a little divine intervention. At minimum.
  16. I don't have a link, but I heard this on the Score's updates around 10 AM today during work. Apparently Zell has until November 1 to completely purchase the Tribune Company, which would mean that the team would more than likely have to be sold before that date in order to offset some of the debt. Also repeated what we knew, starting price would be around $650M to $1B+.
  17. He wouldnt want to be here long term, but I'm sure he'd like to play for a contender for the rest of the year. That's my thought as well. He wouldn't be interested in us long term and would probably make that known, but I'd doubt he'd turn down the chance to play for a contender for just the last few months of his current contract.
  18. I have no idea if this would be possible, but I know when I have the game threads up I have to constantly hit the refresh button on my browser to see new posted items. Would it be possible to add the option of adding an auto fresh to update threads every few minutes?
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2953302
  20. Good job by Jacque there. I'm beginning to think we should hold on to him a bit longer. I'd have to assume he could pass through waivers past the July 31 deadline if we hold on to him, right?
  21. He's a graduate of a high school in my old school district (Crystal Lake South) and good buddies with one of my coworkers right now. I know he's a huge Cubs fan too, having been outside Wrigley cheering on the Cubs in the NLCS in 2003 despite having already been drafted by the Marlins, but wow, he's got some issues to take care of. Hope he straightens himself out.
  22. I see Wuertz got the win. How do they determine the winner? I had assumed it would be Eyre, since he came on after Marquis, who already had the lead. Anyone know?
