  1. So I'm looking for advice again on how to upgrade my team: Traded Cano for Josh Johnson Dropped Wang, Cabrera, Ankiel, and Napoli Picked up Price, Carpenter, Volstad, and Galarraga on waivers Edit: I know Price and Weiters are not in the majors right now and Carpenter is on the DL, so I might get a spot opened as soon as the Carpenter pick up is finalized. C - Brandon Inge 1B - Mark Teixeira 2B - Ian Kinsler 3B - Garrett Atkins SS - Rafael Furcal OF - Curtis Granderson OF - Andre Ethier OF - Ryan Ludwick Util - Joey Votto BN - Matt Wieters BN - Alex Rios SP - Josh Beckett SP - Zack Greinke RP - Bobby Jenks RP - Brian Fuentes P - Chris Volstad P - Armando Galarraga P - Josh Johnson P - Matt Garza P - David Price P - Chris Carpenter DL - Brandon Webb
  2. Turns out I was quite wrong, This is the most segregated city But just as I suspected, Chicago isn't even in the top five. It took me all of 30 key strokes to find this out. Can we put this nonsense to bed now? It's not nonsense. It's a well-established historical and sociological idea. Like I said, look at how many links have Chicago at the top. I never said all studies would have Chicago at the top. If the city has fallen from the top in recent years (even though I know many studies and experts still feel it's up there), hey great...that doesn't erase the better part of a century where it was the most visibly segregated major city in America. The social rammifications of such a situation doesnt just vanish. You're ignoring all the other links for the sake of one (from 2002) that backs up your point. Take this for what it's worth, but I took some education classes at Marquette, where they emphasize urban education. I believe I remember hearing that, depending on the year, that Milwaukee, St. Louis, and Detroit are the most segregated. Again, that's just going off of memory, but the professor taught in both St. Louis and Milwaukee. As for Chicago, there is no doubt in my mind that we are 'up there,' if only historically. But I'd make the argument that the larger the city, the more likely it is to make the segregation list. Again, just a theory, but it seems like a product of the system.
  3. Thanks for the help guys! Sandoval should be great, at least until Wieter's starts tearing it up.
  4. The top C's available for my bench are Dioner Navarro, Pablo Sandoval, Kelly Shoppach,Yadier Molina, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. I'd prefer to keep Wieters, even if on the bench. Suggestion?
  5. I had the tenth pick in a ten team Yahoo! league. The commissioner's new so the league is pretty basic. Hitters have R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG. Pitchers have W, SV, K, ERA, and WHIP. Feedback would be appreciated, since I do have the first spot on the waiver wire to make upgrades. Thanks! 6. I agree with Soul. I'm a Marquette fan, so take that for what it's worth, but I really hate when something like stepping on the line ends a team's chances for a win. Same would go for any team. I know Lazar made the mistake and rightfully so, but if it was Duke/Texas, WKU/Gonzaga, etc you just would like to see an exciting game end with a shot, miss or make. Oh well, Missouri was the better team, especially with an unhealthy James. This one doesn't sting as much as Marquette/Stanford from last year though. Good luck to you in the Sweet 16.
  7. So long as it's still possible, I'll throw my hat into the ring.
  8. I know this is a Big Ten heavy board, but what are people's thoughts on Marquette vs. UConn tonight? As a Marquette alum, I'm pumped for the game, and have no idea how the matchup will work itself out. This is truly a backcourt vs. frontcourt game if ever there was one.
  9. I won't mind rooting for Wood on the Indians. At least it's an AL team. :( One that routinely plays against the White Sox. And one that comes to Wrigley Field from June 19-21.
  10. The Score reported that an announcement would be made at 12 noon today. Cross your fingers! PS - I know it's offtopic, but they also said a Peavy trade was picking up steam. Can you imagine Santo getting the call the same day as we possibly get Peavy?
  11. Maybe it's the delusional Cubs fan in me, but this seems like making a story to fill time on the Cubs sale. Other than an anonymous baseball source, there's really nothing in the article that we didn't already know. That's not to say that Cuban will win, but I really think this whole personal grudge angle is being overblown. Even if he is rejected, I'll bet it's a close vote.
  12. Now that the Cubs are out of it and the first round is over, I'm curious to see who people are pulling for. Obviously, there's an option if you could care less. And feel free to explain your choice.
  13. Just a bump because I heard Lawrence Holmes on the Score during his show with Dan Hampton mention getting texts from sources about the sale being complete. Alluded to Stone possibly addressing about it at 2PM on B&B. Anyone else hear this? Personally, I doubt anything actually happened because A) no one else has picked it up yet and B) that seems awfully fast for a decision to be made. Anyone tell me I'm at least not crazy for hearing that?
  14. I'm in Milwaukee and dismayed that I couldn't make it to either game. But I am rather enjoying this amongst the Brew Crew turmoil surrounding me.
  15. Any word on how good Dallas Buck is? It's him and two players to be named later.
  16. I have to agree with Derwood. The Brewers trading for a rental of Sabathia doesn't necessarily put them in the playoffs. Think about it. A pitcher pitches every 5th game, so an impact pitcher only gives you so many games advantage of the course of the regular season. Impact pitchers have the most value when you are in the playoffs. A position player upgrade theoretically could propel them into the playoffs more than a starter because the position player plays every day. So a trade for Sabathia would make the most impact for a division leader who needs more pitching than a team trying to catch up. Clearly, he'd help the Brewers, but it's assuming a bit of a risk because it doesn't "guarantee" a playoff spot.
  17. Marquette fan here, but one of the most interesting out of conference matchups this year looks to be Tennessee vs. Marquette in Nashville. Edge to Tenn because it's at home, but should be a really good matchup.
  18. While I don't think the Cubs are close, this current home win streak made me wonder what the longest home winning streak is in baseball history. Anyone know?
  19. I was thinking the same thing. If this is a major injury/season ending (too early to tell), it is in his best interest and the Cards to get that nagging TJ surgery done as well. While Pujols missing extended time potentially helps the Cubs, I'm by no means reveling in it.
  20. Regarding Sabathia, I think the Cubs could really have a shot and here's why: 1. As previously mentioned, look at what the Twins got for Santana. I'd imagine the deal would be close to it, given it being a deadline deal. 2. I've heard that, in order to maximize their return, the Indians would want to do a sign and trade similar to Santana. No source, but I thought I remembered hearing that (certainly would make sense). If this is the case, it would theoretically make an NL switch more appealing to the Indians (so they don't have to face him). 3. If #2 is true, Cubs might have the financial resources and the winning situation to sign Sabathia long term. Hendry seems to have been given the keys to do what it takes, so something like this would be the big splash he likes doing at the deadline. Sabathia would be forgoing free agency, but depending on what we throw at him and the situation in late July, I could definitely see it happening. My guess is that the deal would be something along the lines of Hill/Gallagher, Ceda, Cedeno, and prospect or Hill/Gallagher, Ceda, and Vitters for Sabathia. Not saying it's going to happen, but it wouldn't shock me.
  21. I kept thinking after seeing Marmol pissed off was the Hulk. "You wouldn't like me when I'm mad." Then he mowed down Taveras on 3. Wow.
  22. There was an article in the Tribune that talked about the Bulls still interviewing candidates for the job. However, they mention this includes one veteran coach that no one has identified that would be surprising. My question is, if there's any truth to it (which I'm not sure if there is), who is this mystery coach? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-080530-doug-collins-chicago-bulls,1,1464921.story
  23. I'm not hearing anything about that on Comcast. Where are you seeing this?
  24. Dumb question, but I just blanked. What's ISOD again? Isolated Discipline = OBP minus BA Kind of what I assumed based on the numbers from the prompter. Thanks!
