  1. I used to live in Virginia Beach, VA. They said Coke all the time there, and I was one of them. I've lived in the Chicago suburbs calling it pop for almost 12 years now. But to top it all off, I go to school in Milwaukee where they call it soda. Let's come up with one name already!
  2. Anyone care to field bets as to how long it'll take before Kenny Williams trades for him again? :D
  3. What are your thoughts?
  4. Only two guys I'd consider getting rid of Prior or Z for are Pujols and Miguel Cabrera. That's it. No one else.
  5. Did anyone else see that, if Pierre leaves, the Marlins expected 2006 payroll next season is supposed to be $18-20 million?
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2249623 It's official boys.
  7. If Soriano isn't being considered because he won't play outfield, then what does that say about 2B here? Who do they plan on playing 2B? Just curious as to whether someone else caught that.
  8. Anyone know what this does to the Dodgers financially? I know it's been mentioned that Milton and Lowe are likely to go as a result, but I remember hearing they were going to substainially cut payroll. Can anyone help me out here?
  9. Is there a list of next year's free agent class? Hopefully we leave a little money for a hopefully better talent class...
  10. I'd add A-Rod, if there is some salary relief thrown in there. But I'd agree. No to Abreu if Big Z is the cost.
  11. For the teams getting the players, it's great. But this is beyond disgraceful what the Marlins are doing. I know it's for financial reasons, but this is every bit as bad as the firesale before the 1998 season. It is a blackeye to baseball. The only redeeming thing is that the Twins aren't a big market team preying on the Marlins (unlike the Red Sox and Mets). Juan Pierre, your suitcase is packed.
  12. I know tensions are high around here, us waiting axiously for something to happen and all, but let's stop and take a deep breath.
  13. All division games are equally important. The "rivalry" aspect of the Bears-Packers just serves as motivating tool. I find it amusing that like Cubs vs. Sox, this rivalry is not perceived equally from both sides. Bears fans HATE the Packers, Packers fans HATE........the Vikings. I was just about to make that point. Bear fans, no hard feelings when Brett picks apart your defense once again. He may not be what he once was, but he's still good enough to lay a beatdown on the Bears. Packers 31, Bears 17 Going to school in Wisconsin as a Bears fan, I think that there is an underlying respect to the Bears/Packers rivalry as compared to the Vikings/Packers rivalry, which is about pure unadultered hatred. Of course, this could start to change if both Green Bay and Chicago are good and competitive at the same time.
  14. Time for plan B... If that's true or if the Dodgers extend the number of years, I think Hendry will pursue other options. He wants Furcal bad, but there comes a point when sanity must prevail. But then again, this IS the Cubs...
  15. Giles stays home. Per ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2242891 Apparently includes a $9 million dollar option for a fourth year.
  16. If I had Jimbo's ear, we'd be signing Giles. Even at 5/$55? Sorry. I threw up a little in my mouth...
  17. This is our only hope - Giles really doesn't want to go to New York. Still, money talks in the end. Always. It's possible Giles wants a ring, and thinks playing in New York is the most probable way of getting it. I think it's important to note that the Yankees have always been on the list of teams that Giles could not be traded to. Just wondering, but were the Cubs on that list?
  18. I'm all for this move, but not at this cost for either player. That being said, I doubt it'll happen. It has to be bogus. P.S. - Since Furcal would be one of the first FA signings, can you imagine how much money Boras would then want for Damon? Or how much Giles could command? Talk about screwing not only yourselves, but all of MLB. Exactly. The FA market has not shown to be a bell curve, more like the foot of a cliff. Don't you think Eyre and Howry would be demanding more money if we hadn't signed them before Ryan's insane deal? Maybe Hendry realizes he needs to overwhelm Furcal with a deal NOW. Hendry's not an idiot, and we have money. Yes, but we are not the Yankees.

  20. Todd Walker, CPatt, and Welly are worth about what TWalk is worth by himself. So an easier question to ask, is what could TWalk bring us? That's true if we are talking major league talent. We might be able to get a prospect or two (depending on the level) for the others.
  21. If everyone is overpaying. Therefore no one is overpaying. Wow is this statement wrong. Overpaying is overpaying. It's like a nightmare test question from logic class...
  22. The video is not on Cubs.com, nor ESPN.com If you have cable... press conferences are usually on Comcast Sports Net, CLTV, or ESPNews. Also interesting... when he took a picture with his new #47 jersey, it was a home jersey with "EYRE" on it. Could they be going back to names on the home pinstripes? Probably not. They probably just put his name on there to customize it for the signing. They wouldn't change the uniforms after one year.
  23. Love the fact that a catholic univerrsity has a demon for a mascot. Still better than Marquette's "almost nickname" of Gold. Marquette Gold? Ugh. There's not much that would make me ashamed of attending that university, but that almost did it.
  24. Just for fun's sake, let's imagine the Cubs were the mystery team (which I hope not). What package of players would be the equivalent of what Boston and Texas are offering?
