  1. This is just an honest question, but why do people feel Carp is undeserving? I personally don't like the guy much (him being a Cardinal and all), but I haven't heard a real convincing argument to the contrary. I'm sure I could be swayed, but numbers just seem so similar between him and Dontrelle.
  2. I'm pretty sure Mongo said, "I'll have speaks with the home plate umpire after the game." I think the fact that Mongo said "speaks" was every bit as funny as Angel's response.
  3. I spent most of my early life in Virgina Beach, VA. There were scattered Braves/Orioles fans, but the reality was that baseball allegiances were not that strong down there. But in third grade, I moved to the Chicago suburbs and my first little league baseball team was the Chicago White Sox. So for one VERY misguided summer, I was becoming a White Sox fan. Lucky for me, my baseball addict cousins were able to show me the error of my ways and I have been a Cubs fan since 1996.
  4. Well, maybe there's still hope. Neifi was quoted as saying that he wants to be the "everyday" starter, so maybe another team can promise him that. Or I could just be in delusional denial...
  5. If Stoney's outlook hadn't been soured, can you imagine the tandem of Kasper and Stone? Pretty solid, if you ask me. In regards to Len, I agree with everyone here. While he admits he didn't grow up a Cubs fan, he seems to genuinely wants to be one. Part of the joy of listening to him this year is that, with each passing game, his love for the Cubs increased. It's refreshingly natural and unforced. He's got a bright future in PBP and will easily be remembered as one of the best in his generation of announcers if he continues to grow. Plus, I have to show a little love to a Marquette alum from a Marquette student.
  6. Gammons said Esptein might just take the year off. Maybe the Cubs will look at him in 2007 after Hendry blows it again this year. I don't think the Cubs will pay the GM 2.5 mil. Sorry to burst the dream. I don't think any team is going to pay a GM 2.5 mil. The highest paid right now is Schuerholz in Atlanta and he makes 1.7 mil. Well, that's the figure Theo wanted from the Red Sox. Actually, I believe he had asked for $1.5. I haven't read anything that says he asked for more than that. I believe he wanted the $2.5 million that Beane was offered to come to Boston a few years back. Articles have mentioned that he initially accepted the $1.5 million offer. The only mention of $2.5 million has been when writers are comparing it to the offer that Beane got. I can't find anywhere that says Epstein asked for that much. My bad. All the numbers threw me off. Thank God I'm done with math in college!

  8. That's beyond ludacris. That's just dumb (and admittedly creepy if true).
  9. I agree - I've always thought he was one of the most overrated minds in baseball. My impression is that he's very good at dissecting in game situations, but terrible when it comes to evaluating players and teams as a whole. I completely agree. I honestly think that Stoney would make a much better skipper than GM. He knows how to use the talent given to him on the field. That being said, I doubt he'd want to be a manager and I doubt I'd want him as a manager. He'd be every bit as outgoing and brash as Ozzie though. The media would love him.
  10. Here come the inevitable Hendry vs. Epstein polls...
  11. I honestly think Wood is here next year and that there is no attempt to resign him. But who knows. He could have a career year in his contract year, like many do, than we can let him go.
  12. Maybe not but more teams may be after Bradley then we know. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cards get him and Giles (if he is a free agent). I know how much money the Cubs have to throw around this offseason, but how much do the Cards have? I dread Giles going to Busch too, but do their resources allow it?
  13. My math says we have to wait another 9 years. :x Be careful people that live in Chicago because I have a feeling that if the Sox win your town might get a little harry during the "celebration". Im hoping they dont go to Wrigley and burn it down. Or attack the construction crews as if they were first base coaches. I live in fearful times here in the city. What is sad was that I thought that too. Remember when the Bulls won their championships? Particularly the early ones incited mass celebrations (though riots is almost a better word). If (because I'm still holding out hope that it's not "when") the White Sox win, Chicago will burn down to the ground and Wrigley will be the first to go. I'm so glad I'm in Milwaukee right now...
  14. I became a fan of the NHL during the last full season because I was trying to learn about hockey (I almost went to U of Minnesota; you gotta know hockey up there). I went to a few Blackhawks games and am excited that it's back in full swing. However, my enthusiasm has nothing to do with the rule changes.
  15. I think it's a given that any deal for Zito includes Hill. In essence, Oakland would be getting a younger unproven Zito (aka cheaper). What else could be added, I don't know.
  16. Congrats on a wonderful career Larry.
  17. I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and love the idea of a Charlotte franchise. While I enjoyed baseball, I frankly didn't have a rooting interest until I moved to Chicago. Baltimore was too far north and Atlanta was too far south. When I hit Chicago, I was misguided (I cheered for the team that was also my little league team - the White Sox). In hindsight, the longest 5 months of my life. Thank God I had some friends set me straight, otherwise I'd be one of "them." ::Shutters::
  18. I've thought about this possibility before, but it means that one team in each league would always have a "bye" series due to the odd number of teams. Only solution would be where the AL and NL "bye" teams play each other, which I do not support at all.
  19. People who want Girardi are going to be disappointed. Reports have him in Florida after all. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2197491
  20. I think I read an article a few weeks back in the Tribune that said Mazzone grew up a Yankees fan. Could be wrong. That being said, Mazzone stays with the Braves. 14 consecutive division titles and job security? He has it made.
  21. Because to some of us the White Sox aren't a rival, to some of us they are the equivalent of the Baltimore Orioles. Because to some of us oh say maybe the CARDINALS and the ASTROS are our real rivals. There is a rivalry to me 6 times a year. I have Cubs fans friends and I have Sox fans friends and we're civil, some Sox fans are annoying and guess what we as Cubs fans are annoying to but that's pro sports. I wasn't even addressing their fans, though that's a whole other issue entirely. I'm also not advocating pulling for Houston or St. Louis. I hate both those teams just as much. But we are kidding ourselves if we think Cubs-Sox is not a rivalry too. If it kills you to root for one of the last two NL teams, then do what I'm doing this World Series: ignore it and pretend it never happened.
  22. This is not meant to sound mean, but why do people feel they have to be happy for the White Sox even if they are from Chicago? They are a crosstown rival. You'll never hear Mets and Yankees fans cheering for the other or the Dodger and Angels doing likewise. People are entitled to their opinions, but I guess I just don't understand the Sox love.
  23. I've watched Ozzie during the year and I think he is terrible with the offensive moves however he's very good at handlng his pitching staff. Good at handling his pitching staff? As dominating as they were, letting the starters pitch all but 2/3 of an inning in 5 games is not smart management of a staff, especially when there is still plenty of baseball left.
  24. Astros are coasting through the NL too. Made quick work of more balanced teams then the White Sox have to face. Astros in 6. They are a better pitched team and the White Sox will struggle in Houston.
  25. I will never root for this classless organization. The White Sox are a good team, but I cannot bring myself to congratulate them. Anyone else think Ozzie's management of the pitching staff will come back to bite them?
