  1. Hey whats wrong with cheering for the Royals, they have a much better farm system than us.
  2. Sign Meche/Lilly. Trade Jones's contract. Sign Drew. I don't think it's that impossible. Who knows, the payroll maybe be bigger than the 115-120 that we've been hearing. if that's it the rotation is horrible at worst and very average at best, definately not a world series champion. I don't think Z, Hill, Meche, Lilly/Westbrook, Prior/Miller with Marshall and Marmol possibly in there too is a horrible pitching staff. as much as i'd like hill to succeed and think he will eventually, it's not a good idea to have him slated in the three spot after the ups and downs he's had. prior/miller can't be counted on exactly and even if you replace an injured prior/miller with marmol or marshall it's not that great. the point being, there is a not so fine line between average and great. 2003 rotation was great, 2006 rotation was below average. i really think the cubs need to sign a schmidt or trade for something close to that to ensure anything pitching wise. Or maybe we will catch a break and the real Mark Prior will show up again.
  3. Any mention of Drew? Does anyone think we will spend that much money?
  4. Self has his team tourny ready already.
  5. Just looking ahead to their huge matchup with Ball State 9 days from today. :D In all seriousness, BSU's probably got a better shot at Kansas than the other good team we play this month (Georgetown), just because the Jayhawks don't have Roy Hibbert at center. In fact their big men are definitely not their strong point, looking at their roster. Look harder Darrell Arthur is awesome. Darnell Jackson is no slouch either.
  6. Did I read right Chester actually made a three?
  7. We don't have our three best players for a while. This could get ugly.
  8. Winthrop looks good thus far.
  9. What a joke. Ugh. I'm hard pressed to understand why White couldn't seem to effectively post up and even when he did, the guards weren't dribbling down to get a better angle to feed the ball into the post. For a coach that seems hell-bent on feeding the post (as Sampson claims to be) they sure don't look like they have put a lot of practice into it. This is pretty basic stuff. How did Vitale "call out" Sampson? He said he should have called Weber, that's it. He also said any coach would have recuited Gordon if put in Sampson's situation. Just the part where he said a man would have called Weber. To most of us that would be an insult.
  10. Two days in a row during the IU game Dick Vitale has called out Sampson for the Eric Gordon recruitment. I like it.
  11. I got a Cpatt home, Prior away, a 1908 Cubs, Joe DiMaggio,s San Fran Seals Jersey, every Michael Jordan jersey they got, a Marcus Liberty throwback Illini jersey, an Allen Iverson retro, a Luther Head signed jersey, and even a couple of illiniguy jerseys from college. Jerseys rock.
  12. The best though was when Kevin Roberson hit a game winning homer. Harry dropped something and took his eyes off the game and the crowd goes ape, Harry asks Steve what happened and Steve tells him. Without missing a beat Harry yells, Cubs win, Cubs win Holy Cow.
  13. Jamar Smith is now out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. What a crappy break.
  14. Nobody is saying that, though. This is how you avoid disaster contracts like the Yankees are saddled with right now, and like we have been in the past. You don't sign a 30 year old guy (outside of a real superstar like an ARod or Pujols) coming off a career year to a big money long-term contract. so are you against signing Lee, Soriano and/or Drew? All will get multiple years and all are over 30 Drew can play center and that is a position of need, I kind of feel the same way about CLEE.
  15. any of you hawk fans go to the game? I heard for a Hawk fan on the iB there were only about 400 fans. That can't be right, can it?
  16. Drew is so the obvious guy and he fell into our laps, the only question is, does Jimmy even know it?
  17. The expansion Flordia Marlins, thats where.
  18. The old guy would have loved '03. Sans the ending.
  19. I'm not comparing Aram to Manny, per se. I'm just giving an example of a guy I considered to have comparable issues as Aram, yet has continued to stay productive in his mid 30's. Mike Lowell isn't enough of a comparison for me to label Aramis as a lock to drop offensive production significantly. Just as Mike Lowell's recovery from cancer isn't a lock that all baseball players can lead a productive baseball career after a major recovery from cancer. Lowell is just one example. There are plenty out there of unathletic guys that fell off a performance cliff shortly after turning 30. There are also some who haven't too. Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas.. ok so I can think of two. Unless I can convince you to count Juan Gonzalez.
  20. He doesn't want to play here because we are terrible. Jim Hendry allowed and aided that happening. Again nice work Jimmy. At least this pretty much means he will be gone now.
  21. Yeah that will happen. We always outbid other teams for the top talent. Get ready for David Bell.
  22. I am done with this joke of an organization for the time being. They don't give two craps about us, they feed us the same line every few years and proceed to lose 90 games.
  23. Jim Hendry, this is pretty much the single most important part of you keeping your job. If Aramis gets away you're gone.
  24. That's what Chris Burke thinks too.
