  1. I was just thinking to myself this has the looks of an Ordonez rejuvenation weekend. But a nice catch by Blanco there. Much like they did to us with Frenchie in Atlanta.
  2. We are gonna be in August before we know it waiting for Milton to come around.
  3. I wish we still had DeRosa so I just wouldn't have to watch Mike Fontenot be over matched over and over.
  4. I realize I used OPS (though I did put a little disclaimer in there) but having a bright line rule there would be dumb. You can't play a younger player over a veteran b/c the veteran's crappy OPS is better than the young guy's crappy OPS? You can't play a guy with a slightly worse OPS but is a better overall offensive player or much better defender? Even if we don't use OPS, how can you clearly know that one player will be better than the other? How do you know one decision is better, overall, for the team? No one had a gun to Magglio's head and made him sign a deal that included those vesting clauses. He took a risk that he'd keep playing well enough to reach them. This is also true. I just always tend to side with the player if he is trying to play and there is really no better option in house.
  5. If the guy they are replacing him with has a better OPS, if that's what we want to use, I see no way that he can cry about it. However, if the guy replacing him is worse then I hope he files a grievance and wins. No one had a gun to Detroit's head and made them sign Mags.
  6. Not according to ESPN.com They had Nieve going that day. Where are you looking? Here's the Mets page on ESPN that shows Santana against Carpenter on Thursday. The Mets' MLB.com page shows the same thing. I see it now. I swear when I checked Sat morning that ESPN didn't have those two going in the series. They must have changed it. Good, about time they caught an ace.
  7. Oh I agree completely that they'd be willing to deal him for the right package. The right package isn't likely to be fringe major league castoffs or old, expensive vets, though. Plus, if the assumption is that the Royals will try to contend (a reasonable assumption), then Cruz and Mahay will be important pieces to their pen. DeRosa is on the trade block because he's a valuable piece to a team - one that teams will be willing to pay good value for. Teahen is the same way. I think the Royals would be fine with keeping him or dealing him, but they have no immediate need to trade him, so he's not going to come dirt cheap. I think we agree that if the right package comes along, they would trade him. My problem with so many posters is that any package of Cubs' prospects is immediately labeled "garbage". As I have tried to point out (and seconded by Davearm) is that you never know what another GM is thinking or seeking. I'm not saying that our prospects are garbage, or at least not meaning too. I just think that we are going to have to give up some of the better ones in order to get a decent return. Some posters were suggesting that the Royals would just give us Teahan. That's not gonna happen. Dayton Moore's no fool.
  8. You will get his auto if you really want it. From everything I've read and through my cousin's experience with Josh he's a very nice guy. Will sign pretty much everything.

  10. He should be happy he's even getting paid at this point.
  11. Unfortunately. I was hoping that Sunday would be the day (where I'm taking my father, father-in-law, and my grandpa) that he would be pitching. Although, Meche is pitching that day, I would still perfer Greinke. But then, Meche is a better option than Davies and Bannister. I just hope that 130+ pitches won't come back and bite Meche, come Sunday. It's just amazing the number of aces they have missed this year. It's getting really, really old. Cards go to New York next for a four game series. Miss Santana. \:D/
  12. This. Teahan isn't going anywhere unless it's for seomthing of pretty good value. He's what they netted for Beltran, along with John Buck. If we sent them 1 of Kevin Hart, Jeff Stevens, Randy Wells, Mitch Atkins and maybe 2 of Steve Clevenger, Darwin Barney, Marquez Smith, Ryan Flaherty, Sam Fuld, Josh Harrison, Rebel Ridling, Kyler Burke, that could be good enough. No it wouldn't the Royals are loaded with good pitching prospects. Tim Melville Danny Duffy Michael Montgomery Daniel Cortes Danny Guttierrez Aaron Crow Our pitchers you named wouldn't be enough to even get them interested for their version of Mark DeRosa. You want Teahan you better be willing to go Jake Fox, Chris Carpenter, and Jay Jackson.

  14. Doesn't it get old comparing a deal for Teahen to a deal for Teixiera, ARod, Ruth, Bay, and Beckett? I see outlandish trade proposals that aren't going to happen all the time on this site: trade DLee (NTC), get Adrian Gonzalez, etc. None of us (including the "experts") know what value a GM places on his team's talents or needs especially in this economy. The Harden and Garciaparra deals were both deals that nobody saw happening. The bottom line is that Teahen is a decent role player (not star) with an immediate replacement at 3B (Gordon) and the Royals have a big hole at SS which eliminates them from competing until it's filled. I think the main point is, we could probably get Teahen without getting fancy. Sure, Beimals a good lefty, but with the Cubs finances they way they are, theres no reason to go after too much. We could probably afford the remaining 2 mil or whatever on Teahens contract, and even if we couldnt, the Royals might be inclined to pay it if we were willing to overpay a bit in terms of prospects. Im not talking Vitters or Jackson, but a bit more than the normal market for a guy like Teahen, which would be like Kevin Hart+ 1 or 2 PTBNL or lower level prospects. Why would the Royals want to give up a guy who hits, isn't super expensive, can play 6 positions, and they have under control for a bit longer? Especially for some prospects that aren't very good?
  15. I'd take Gordon and be ecstatic. What makes you think they'd trade him? A lot of fans around here have already given up on the guy. Listening to sports talk radio they are all pretty down on him and Hochevar, because they aren't Braun and Lincecum, or Longoria and Ryan Zimmerman. Plus Moustakas isn't too far behind. Although I don't think Moore is dumb enough to give up on him yet, I think he knows that Gordon will get more in return than Teahan would.
  16. The Cubs won 2 out of 3? I thought we got swept?
  17. Prolly the 1997-to-1998 Marlins. Nope. The 97 Marlins scored 740 runs and the 98 Marlins scored 667. The 97 Marlins, despite all that talent, were a wild card team. Their 92 wins were 10 behind the 101 win Braves. Wow. Just a guess off the top of my head. They won 92 games with only 740 runs scored? Impressive pitching I guess.
  18. Prolly the 1997-to-1998 Marlins.
  19. Easy buddy we don't get 6 against the Royals. The Greinkeless Royals to boot. Just having a little fun. Poking fun at the guys who whine about that when a team walks off against you guys. And even though they miss Greinke again, they have to go through Verlander, Jackson, Porcello. It evens out in the end. Kind of. If you didn't miss every other ace as well. Oh and sorry to let you know this but I am gonna arm wrestle Pujols tomorrow.
  20. Can you run some #s on Colby Rasmus for me? That was pretty good.
  21. I almost think the Royals will trade Gordon before Teahan. I would be all over Gordon.
