There is way more to it than that. While I agree that he struggles with great athletes he also sucks as a talent identifier. See giving Bill Cole a scholarship over Robbie Hummel. See Chester Frazier over Jerel McNeal. He also struggles big time with putting together a roster. You have one of the best big man in the game that can run, jump, and has a great motor. You surround him with a bunch of wings that can't shoot particularly well. So you have to run and play uptempo then right? Nope. He's gonna play a slow grind it out offense using the big man on the perimeter. Then there is his blind loyalty to older players. There was literally no one in America that thought that Bill Cole should have played over Jereme Richmond last year. There is no reason Sammy Ice is playing minutes that Mychael Henry should be using this year. We aren't talented enough to sabotage ourselves by playing less talented kids. If you wanna do that go coach high school basketball somewhere. Bruce Weber is out of his depth at a high major program. He needs to get back to a smaller school where he can do things his way, make a tournament twice a decade, and have his fan base be happy. You know I want Weber as far away from the program as possible, but there was a whole lot of wrong in that post. There's no reason to be hyperbolic anymore. He's gone, the right decision has been made. Ok Chester over McNeal is wrong. What else do you find wrong? After seeing what became of Jereme from the second the BTT game ended against Michigan, I don't know how you could criticize him for not playing him more. There were...issues there. Maniscalco wasn't stealing Henry's minutes, he was stealing Abrams's minutes. Weber made the NCAAs his last 2 seasons at SIU, building up a stagnant program which then went to 4 more tourneys after he left until Lowery torpedoed it. If he goes back to SIU, I imagine he'll have them as a regular contender in the MVC. You can point to Hummel-Cole, but on the other end you have Mike Davis and his skill at identifying talent at a young age(a necessity because he couldn't win recruiting battles that he wasn't in on forever.) Leonard, Abrams, Egwu, Henry, Hill, and to a lesser extent Bertrand and Paul were closed in on prior to their stock improving. ETA: Saying "putting the big man on the perimeter is misleading, implying that he's got him out there to shoot 18 footers. He's running high screen and rolls, but the guards never EVER look for him(Something that's on Weber at least in part) Sam isn't playing point guard now at all. He plays with Abrams and when Tracy isn't in DJ is bringing the ball up court. Thus he is playing guard. which Henry plays. We would be better served playing him and preparing for the future. We also played our best ball when Sam was out hurt. Jereme was streaky, but most freshman are. You point ot that Michigan game. I point to the Ohio State game in Champaign where he was awesome or against Texas. I sitll think if you have a McDonalds All American you don't sit him behind Billy [expletive] Cole. I mean if you ever want another one. You are right about Mike Davis, I maybe am too hard on him for identifying talent. Davis was a hell of a find. The Leonard on the permiter thing is terrible. If the guards can't hit him when he cuts to the bucket, why do it? It invites terrible referees to call him for moving picks and takes him out of the equation for offensive rebounds. This really hurts since we decided to play 4 guards for a large part of the year. He needs to go back to a mid major. He will do well there again. He isn't cut out for a high major job. IMO.
