  8. I think most of us are wondering why sign a #4 or #5 type when we needed a #2 type. Indeedly doodely. Definitely need a 1-2 punch.
  9. Well at least he's durable and can swing the stick a bit. :?
  10. another tangential effect of this and the Lilly deal is it allows the Cubs to trade away some minor league pitching without worrying about the depth chart. A trade or two before April is inevitable. Good point. Nice issue spotting counselor.
  11. Seriously guys, I'm not so sure this is something to throw a hissy fit about. It seems like we have unrealistic expectations sometimes as Cubs fans. This is a #4 or #5. They can't all be aces. He's just a John Thomson or a Brett Tomko type. My only concern is whether one of our younger guys couldn't have done the same thing, for about 1/10th the cost.
  12. The opp. BA last year against him was .289, compared to Marmol's at .250, Hill at .227 (wow), and Marshall's at .270
  13. If Asthma medication really is what set off Hollis Thomas' drug test, that's such a bullcrap suspension.
  14. His eyes are going to give me nightmares. His hollow eyes see into your soul.
  15. To get back on "white guy" mascots, let's not forget the Vanderbilt Commodore http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2687/mrcsd7.jpg

  17. 18. WARNING: Crazy Idea....so don't mock me I think a perfect solution would be to totally make new conferences and use a professional sports format. Have 10 conferences with 12 teams each and two divisions of 6 within each conference, (I know i know...there's only 119 I-A schools), then have the 10 winners of the conferences champ games, plus 2 wild card teams go to a playoff, just like in NFL or MLB or whatever. Crazy I know...but at least it'd probably work.
  19. No kidding. That was a travesty of monumental proportions. One of the critcisms of a playoff system is they say "oh, the advertisers don't want to lose money, bla bla", to which I respond: MORE people would watch your bowl game if it actually MEANT something. How is that a bad thing for them?
  20. Hoooly Cow
  21. No doubt...they are terrible.
  22. Are you talking about the Saints or the 49ers defense being junk? I presumed you meant the Saints. Regardless of which of them you meant, I agree that the Cowboys v. Saints game next sunday night is going to be a huge game for the NFC. I was referring to the 49ers being junk. It would be difficult for Grossman to shred the Saints' defense since they aren't on the schedule... Well of course I know we haven't played the Bears, but I had to ask because in your previous post you had said:

  24. Indeed, 375 total yards today WITHOUT Colston and Horn. That's a great great offense. Plus, they are becoming more deadly every week because Bush is finally figuring out how to play in the NFL; he's figuring out that you can't run side to side, but have to run down the field. Instead of relying so much on his speed, he's now utilizing his juking and avoidance ability for positive yardage. Their rush defense which had been their principle defensive concern looked great today, holding the Niners and Gore to only 57 yards. GEAUX Saints! The 9ers are just atrocious. Gore had a few games, but ultimately it's just a poor ballclub. If N.O. can beat Dallas, then I'll take another look. As it stands right now, I think that defense is junk and Dallas will tear them apart. Sometimes I'm wrong----I'll admit that. Their defense isn't total junk. Their pass defense is 6th in the NFL. Of course, their rush defense is bad, but they held a 100+yd/game rusher to around half that today. If they got into an offensive slugfest with the Cowboys, I think they match up pretty well. Saints have a better QB, but they have equal running back duos: Deuce/Bush and Jones/Barber, and equal WR's: T.O. and Colston, Glenn and Horn.
