  1. Upon looking at it again, you're probably right. Looks like it was a breaking pitch that I missed. Naw, not a coaches son.
  2. Completely off topic here, but your avatar reminds me of a picture of a friend of mine that played baseball at Purdue. He was a left-handed hitter, and there was a photo of him with a beautiful followthrough on a swing. You could also see the catcher, getting ready to throw the ball back to the pitcher since it was a swing and a miss. We had to crop out the catcher so we could use the picture in the media guide. I only mention it since you're clearly on the followthrough of your swing, but you can still see the ball around your ankles. You should have someone Photoshop it out. :) Or have someone photoshop more in! I'm not sure if that was a foul ball or a swinging strike. I'm leaning toward it being a foul ball. That would have to be a hell of a changeup or breaking pitch for me to already be following through and the ball still be in front of me like that.
  3. I know that. He was one of the best at power, and in the top 75 in not making outs. The only part of the game that was lacking was speed, and there are plenty of slow guys in the HOF. He wasn't bad defensively. In fact, for at least the first half of his career, he was pretty good with the glove. He excelled in two areas of the game. If you don't agree with that, that's fine, but the numbers prove that he was a dominant hitter. That's fine you feel that way. I mean, I won't deny he was a great power hitter, surely he was. However, I think anyone who would vote for Big Mac would also have to vote for Dawson. I'd rather have Dawson on my team in his prime than Big Mac. Dawson would give you good power, great speed, and a constant gold glove. But, to each his own! :-)
  4. There's more to baseball than power and home runs.
  5. All of those stats are reason why I think he falls short. All those stats show is that he was a completely one dimensional player.
  6. C'mon man. You'll vote for Big Mac but not for Dawson? Let's compare: Dawson: .279 BA, 2,774 hits, 1373 runs, 438 homeruns, 503 2B, 1591 rbi, 314 sb, 1 mvp, 8 gold gloves McGwire: .263 BA, 1626 hits, 1167 runs, 583 homeruns, 252 2B, 1414 rbi, 12 sb, no mvps, 1 gold glove
  7. Ripken and Gwynn. Regardless of the fact that he's a juicer, I still wouldn't vote for Big Mac on account of his one dimensionality as a player. He couldn't run, he couldn't hit for average, he couldn't play D especially well. He could hit home runs, that's about it.
  8. If you are talking about "deserving" to get in. Look at Rose's numbers: #1 in hits: 4,256 #1 in AB: 14,053 #2 in 2B: 746 #5 in runs: 2,165 #12 in BB: 1,566 He deserves to go into the hall as a PLAYER. Ban him from baseball, ban him from coaching, whatever. But what he did later in life shouldn't result in the expulsion of his legacy as a player.
  9. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES What he did as a manager should NOT affect what he did as a player.
  10. Ya, everyone but Horn...sucks for my fantasy team. I've got Colston though...he qualifies as a TE in Yahoo.
  11. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Hail MARY SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. But it measures wins in some odd mathematical formula. I'm just not a big stat person, but i'm not going to be critical of those who are.
  13. 76 yards....Brees is sick nasty.
  14. I can pretty much guarantee that if you mentioned WARP or other sabermetric statistics to an actual baseball player he'd look at you like you were speaking a different language. When I played, I didn't care about my stats that much. In fact, I wasn't even aware of them most of the time. In college the only times I ever saw my stats were if I was reading an article about one of the games or if I looked up at the scoreboard during one of the games...although I was normally so "in the moment" at the plate that I didn't pay attention to the scoreboard. I learned early on that stat-watching is distracting as a player, and distractions are never ever a good thing in sports, especially in baseball where concentration is key. The only stat that mattered was WINS. So GMs and players need to know different things? Ya think??

  16. Does it make me stupid that I played the game for 16 years of my life and don't have a clue as to what the hell y'all are talking about? What the crap is WARP?? Wins Above Replacement Player That is the most pointless stat I've ever seen in my life. Holy cow.
  17. Does it make me stupid that I played the game for 16 years of my life and don't have a clue as to what the hell y'all are talking about? What the crap is WARP?? WARP is wins over replacement players, I think. What? Wins over replacement players?
  18. Does it make me stupid that I played the game for 16 years of my life and don't have a clue as to what the hell y'all are talking about? What the crap is WARP?? no, but using the term y'all does. I kid, I kid. Ya right. You probably think I walk around barefoot and use corncobs and the sears catalog when I go out to my outhouse.

  20. then I'm beaning your clean up hitter. :x I'd just have to charge the mound on his behalf. Surely the verbal screwball that you hit him with momentarily dazzed him to where he couldn't adequately retaliate on his own. yeah, you're just lucky that we've gone from political season to baseball transaction season. Lucky? I'm bored as hell with no one to fight with. If I understood what the crap you and this fella are arguing about, I'd be inclined to jump in just for the hell of it. But from what I can gather, I think I'd be on your side in this argument.

  22. I like being in the dugout when jjman21 fights someone!
  23. Good pick. Last twin to win the mvp? Rod Carew? Killebrew?
  24. michael barrett get beaned by cardnals next year and is staggerin round and comes out of game, he asks lou if he can go home, lou say yes, barrett visbily dizzy gets in car and ride home and on way he runs into woman with child. child has hemophillic condition, and she lose so much blood from wreck that she paralzyed from waist down. who is held at fault? Curse you! But if I had to answer I would say that Lou is 100% negligent for letting our 4th best hitter go home when we are playing the Cards and we need his bat in the lineup! i dunno the answer. just know that vicarous libility would be pinned on cubs. and the thin skull rule means that theyd pay for all the girls damages. or something
