  1. His stats have always been pretty workmanlike; nothing fancy enough to be noticed by All-Star voters. Those late 2000's Orioles teams didn't have too much though, so there might be some slight surprise that he was never sent as the obligatory pick. Looks like the Orioles had obligatory selections in 2008 (George Sherrill) and 2010 (Ty Wiggington).
  2. I don't care enough to dig into it, but I imagine the seasons Trout, Betts, and Judge are having would be tough to match, even for those 3. quickly glancing at baseball reference for 1955: musial - 6.1 bWAR mays = 9.1 bWAR aaron - 6.3 BWAR or 1957: musial - 6.1 bWAR mays - 8.3 bWAR aaron - 8.0 bWAR as of today: trout - 6.9 bWAR betts - 5.4 bWAR judge - 5.0 bWAR
  3. Slow down there. Many of the All-Star games in the 50’s had an NL outfield of Mays, Aaron, and Musial.
  4. Cubs’ non-pitcher offensive ranks in MLB... AVG- 1st (.278) OBP- 1st (.359) SLG- 4th (.447) OPS- 1st (.806) wOBA- 1st (.346) wRC+- 2nd (116) BB%- 5th (10.2) K%- 5th-best (19.8) BB/K- 2nd (0.51)
  5. Is he? He’s 0.2 WAR behind Albies with 76 less plate appearances. And he can play SS and 3B. Hardly an outrageous decision by the fans. Tied after today in fWAR. And I still think Javy isn't valued properly defensively because of his Javy Tags and other ridiculous plays like the Puig DP the other day. Yeah, on the one hand I have faith in advanced metrics which seem to indicate that he is a sub-par fielder but damnit if my own eyes don’t show the exact opposite.
  6. Just another reminder that Kyle currently has a 6.7 UZR, which is the sixth highest in the MLB for an OF
  7. It seems to be a daily occurrence that I pause, take a moment, and thank the baseball gods that we didn't trade Javy a few years ago.
  8. 40% under slot still would have been like 2 million or something like that. Crazy. I’ve heard that with Hoglund a big factor with him is that he apparently comes from money, so I guess it’s easier to say no with those family circumstances.
  9. I can’t believe how many pitchers are passing up 7 figures when we all know how iffy pitcher’s health is. For every Gerrit Cole, there’s a Karsten Whitson horror story. Totally. It's one thing for a hitter to gamble on themselves, but a pitcher? Take that money now.
  10. Holy Hell at Carter Stewart likely passing up over 4 million to sign with Mississippi State...and JT Ginn too. Nice haul for Mississippi State to get two first rounders. I'm optimistic about Hoglund passing on the Pirates and showing up at Ole Miss. Guess I'll know shortly. Hoglund's senior stats are just stupid btw. 52 innings, 0.27 ERA, 105k's and 2 walks.
  11. This was more about GS not letting LA get him than it was the Warriors wanting him
  12. That's a lot of money to finish second to Golden State

  14. So ya, that missed pop up did indeed lose them the CWS.
  15. why It's not an enormous pet peeve for me but it is weird how many people keep calling anybody under 40 a millennial. Indeed. If you graduated high school before social media existed, you are most definitely not a millennial.
  16. Other horrifying names I picked up from that game last night: Adley, Zebulon, Kole, Jax, Easton, Kacey, Heston, and Kyler. Freaking white people and their awful millennial names. Are any of these kids even millenials anymore? Yeah I think they are at the extreme end of the millennial generation. Without looking it up, I’m going to speculate that the generation after the millenials probably begins with births post 9/11. The freshman playing last night would have been born in 1999ish.
  17. And, let's be honest; Trevor Larnach isn't much better. Other horrifying names I picked up from that game last night: Adley, Zebulon, Kole, Jax, Easton, Kacey, Heston, and Kyler. Freaking white people and their awful millennial names.
  18. 2B has a better angle and should call off the 1B if he can easily get there, he just overran it by 5 yards. Not sure if that was wind, misreading the spin(presumably a lefty hit it to come back towards the field?), or just pure overexuberance. Right handed hitter. Cadyn Grenier, the 37th overall pick to the Orioles. Next hitter up that hit the HR was Trevor Larnach, 20th overall to the Twins. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAtyPLKKTjs
  19. Hope so. Probably not broken or anything. But holy hell that has to hurt.
